The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1042: Chapter 1042: Cuihua’s Gentlemanly Son

Ying Dong wanted to ask him about his participation in the imperial examination, but the two had already arrived at the bustling courtyard.

The guests were many today, and although the Lu family was all hands on deck, the Lu family’s servants were equally busy with their feet barely touching the ground.

Ying Dong saw a boy from the Zhong Family working hard to drag a burlap sack to the kitchen, and quickly said to Meng Yunzheng, ”Yun, I have to get busy now. I’ll talk to you later.”

”Go ahead.” Meng Yunzheng didn’t mention he would be leaving in the evening, fearing there might not be a chance for a catch-up in the short time.

But being able to reunite with an old friend after many years made him truly happy.

Opportunities will come plenty in the future.

Thinking about this, he couldn’t help but look for Shu Yu.

Shu Yu was being introduced by the old lady to relatives and elders, meeting unfamiliar old-timers like the third grandaunt, second grandaunt, and grand uncle—all from the old lady’s generation.

Shu Yu greeted everyone one by one, smiling until her face felt stiff.

But there was no choice, the old lady was delighted.

She whispered to Shu Yu, ”You don’t know, before, they always boasted in front of me how successful their descendants were, whether it was someone working in town, earning money, or marrying into a family with many acres of land. Tell me, what’s worth bragging about that? Have their family produced a village chief? Have their descendants ever received an imperial decree? Do they have a house as big as this? Let them see what it means to have truly accomplished descendants.”

Shu Yu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but the old lady had long been stifled, now desperately seeking to prove her worth.

Fine, as long as the old lady is happy.

There were indeed many guests this time since not only was it the Coming-of-age Ceremony, but also a housewarming feast.

Therefore, those who previously came to help renovate the house were also present, and more people from Shangshi Village who had a good relationship with the Lu family came to congratulate.

Fan Zhong, as the village chief of Shangshi Village, was surrounded by the crowd, happily eating the snacks in his hands.

There were also the families of Madam Li and Madam Liang, whom Shu Yu had only heard the old lady say had good character, but only got to meet today.

Shu Yu also finally met Cuihua’s son Lai Yuan, who couldn’t come last year when Shu Yu recognized her relatives due to his illness. Now seeing him again, a year had passed.

Lai Yuan had just turned five, and clutching his parents’ hands, he called her ’aunt’ obediently and then shyly hid behind Cuihua.

Shu Yu, amused, gave him a few candies, after which he was led by Dabao and a few others to the pond to see the fish.

Lai Yuan was considered the only child among the younger generation; although his rank was younger, he was a bit older than Baoya and Quanquan.

The boy was a bit introverted, but taught well by Cuihua in terms of manners. As the children ran ahead, upon seeing Baoya falling a few steps behind, he anxiously stopped and took her hand to walk slowly.

This child is sure to be accomplished in the future.

Shu Yu smiled and retracted her gaze, just as Ding Yuehua approached with Kong Zhiyou by her side.

But she couldn’t tell if it was just her imagination; Kong Zhiyou’s smile appeared a bit unnatural.

Shu Yu thought she had been rude somewhere, but then heard Ding Yuehua say, ”Yu, I just took Zhiyou for a tour, your house is beautifully renovated. Especially the bathroom and toilet, they truly opened my eyes. When I buy my house later, I’ll have your father do the same for our home.”

Shu Yu chuckled, ”That sounds great, I’ll let my dad know, and he’ll soon have a job.”
