The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 920: Chapter 920: Zhao Xi’s Net Worth

Little did Shu Yu know that just as she was eating her meal and had this thought, come bedtime, Daya presented her with a wooden box.

Upon opening the box, it gleamed with several large-denomination silver notes and some pieces of silver.

Shu Yu was certain that Daya didn’t have that much money, she looked up in a daze and asked, ”Where did this money come from?”

Daya’s face showed embarrassment mingled with anger, ”It was given by Zhao, Doctor Zhao.”

A question mark slowly formed on Shu Yu’s forehead.

Daya pursed her lips, speaking in a low voice, ”Yesterday he talked a lot to me, and even said he had forgotten how much wealth he had, promising to count it and then come back to tell me. Turns out he did come today, and indeed he brought all the money, thrusting it all upon me as soon as he saw me, saying it was for me to keep for him, I, I...”

She wanted to return it, but Zhao Xi ran faster than a rabbit.

She chased him to the Meng family’s doorstep, knocked for a long while but no one answered.

Today was originally the day the old lady took Dahu to the school to pay a visit to Master Wen, but neighbors came over early in the morning, and the old lady couldn’t get away, so she had Dahu go find Meng Yunzheng to take him to meet the teacher.

Therefore, Meng Yunzheng was not at home. When Daya knocked on the door and did not see Zhao Xi coming to open it, she didn’t know whether he was deliberately avoiding her or had fled somewhere else.

Daya had no choice but to bring the box back home.

Shu Yu was stunned by Zhao Xi’s theatrical move, counting the silver notes inside the box, good heavens, over two thousand taels of silver.

She hadn’t expected this lad to be so wealthy.

Shu Yu closed the box and said to Daya, ”I will help you return this money to Zhao Xi tomorrow.”

Her sister had yet to think it over, and it was inappropriate to bring her entire fortune to her doorstep like this.

Daya breathed a sigh of relief, ”Much thanks to you, Yu.”

In her mind, Shu Yu figured that although two thousand taels was a lot, seeing Zhao Xi wanted to open a medical clinic in the future, two thousand taels might not be sufficient after all.

After all, medicinal materials are not cheap, and a medical clinic must always stock valuable medicines such as ginseng, which are even more expensive.

It seems wise of him to work for a couple of years as a doctor at another medical clinic, to earn and save more money.

Shu Yu stored the box away neatly, planning to take Sanya, who was going to join her for study, to the Meng family the next day.

Zhao Xi was still delightfully happy, looking very pleased with himself.

But when he saw Shu Yu place the box in front of him, his smile instantly froze on his face.

He hastily stepped back, ”Wha-, what does this mean? If Daya has given it some thought and disagrees, I, I...”

Shu Yu restrained an urge to roll her eyes, asked Sanya to go play aside, and then spoke to Zhao Xi, ”What on earth are you thinking? My sister hasn’t made up her mind yet and you’ve handed over all your assets to her, isn’t that pressuring her?”

Zhao Xi blinked, trying hard to digest Shu Yu’s words, then suddenly brightened, ”You mean, Daya hasn’t decided yet?” So there’s still hope, right?

”Mhm.” Shu Yu pushed the box a bit closer to him again, ”You keep this for now. If my sister really marries you in the future, you can give it to her then, it won’t be too late.”

Zhao Xi’s brows tied into a knot, ”But I heard that by giving all my money to the lady, she would realize how much I value her and feel secure in her heart.”

Shu Yu was puzzled again, ”Who told you that?”

Zhao Xi silently turned his head, looking towards the figure in the courtyard, and then his face gradually contorted.
