The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 941: Chapter 941: The Figure Hiding Around the Corner

”Second Miss?” Ying Xi asked, puzzled.

Shu Yu called toward the corner again, ”If you’re not coming out, you can forget about the house-buying business.”

As soon as the words fell, a shadow finally shuffled out sluggishly from behind the corner.

Daniu squinted, ”Third Uncle??”

Lu Sanzhu chuckled awkwardly, heh-heh-heh, as he walked over to the group.

”Third Uncle, what are you doing here? Are you taking time off work again?”

Facing Daniu’s questioning, Lu Sanzhu quickly retorted, ”Don’t throw false accusations at me, Daniu! This time I didn’t take leave. Do I look like the kind of person who shirks work every other day?”

But aren’t you?

Shu Yu and Daniu shared identical expressions as they stared at him.

Lu Sanzhu choked a little, straightened his back, and asserted in righteous tone, ”I didn’t take leave. It’s just my day off today. Anyway, I have business with Second Brother, so I came here for that.”

”Then why did you hide when you saw us?”

Lu Sanzhu shot Daniu a glare. What’s with this nephew being so blunt and getting right to the point? Not a good habit.

He coughed twice and turned to explain to Yu, ”I wasn’t hiding. I just saw something flash by over there—it looked suspicious—so I chased after it. Turns out it was just a stray cat. I...”

Shu Yu and Daniu wore matching expressions that silently said, ”Go ahead, keep making things up.”

Even Lu Sanzhu’s thick skin couldn’t hold out anymore, so he clumsily changed the subject, ”You all look pretty busy. Why don’t you get on with your work? I’ll head inside to talk with Second Brother.”

”Talk about what? Borrowing money?” Shu Yu raised her eyebrows. ”My dad doesn’t have much money to spare.”

Lu Sanzhu’s expression stiffened. ”What are you saying? Don’t you think I already know Second Brother’s strapped for cash? I came to him about serious business. Isn’t your big house about to be renovated? As your Third Uncle, Second Brother’s closest sibling, I’m finally on a day off, so of course I’m here to lend a hand. I actually came here for...”

”Here’s two hundred taels.” Shu Yu casually pulled out a stack of silver notes from her sleeve.

Lu Sanzhu’s words abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Quick as lightning, he grabbed the silver notes, flipped through them, and broke into a wide grin as if he’d just won the lottery.

After counting, he chuckled, ”Yu, this is really too much. I feel bad...”

Just as the words left his mouth, Shu Yu stretched out her hand.

Lu Sanzhu’s face froze, and he hastily cradled the silver notes while stepping back two steps. He suddenly remembered—saying polite things and playing coy doesn’t work with Yu. She might actually take the silver notes back just to prove a point.

He quickly cleared his throat, ”Ah, Yu, thank you so much!”

Shu Yu finally said, ”Third Uncle, if you’re genuinely struggling or need money for something important, you can ask me directly. If I find it reasonable, I won’t refuse to lend it to you. There’s no need to take the roundabout way and have my dad relay messages.”

Lu Sanzhu seemed unusually sincere for a moment. ”Yu, do you think it’s feasible for our family to buy a house in the county town?”

Buy a house??

Daniu’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Third Uncle and Third Aunt are planning to buy a house in the county town?

He glanced at Lu Sanzhu, then at Shu Yu.

Only to see Shu Yu nodding her head. ”Jiangyuan County will become more prosperous in the future. Buying a house now is actually the most cost-effective. I never expected Third Uncle to have such foresight.”

The true visionary behind buying a house was Madam Liang, but Lu Sanzhu would never admit that. From today onward, he resolved not to call his wife a spendthrift anymore.
