The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 927: Chapter 927: I’ll Help You Find Someone

Shu Yu turned to face the people and smiled, ”Naturally, it would be best if we could find enough people from the village itself, but my father mentioned that it’s the busy farming season. He also needs to consider everyone -- it wouldn’t be right to have all the uncles abandon their fields to help us.”

The crowd suddenly realized, yes, May and June are the busiest months in the fields; where would they find the time?

In the past few days, some households had already started weeding and plowing. Otherwise, if not for that, the Lu family’s lively scene at the center of the conversation would have attracted crowds, both inside and outside three layers deep.

The crowd felt somewhat disappointed, as the farm households cared most about their home fields, for good crops lead to good harvests, don’t they?

Then Shu Yu continued, ”So, my father gave me a list, comprised of uncles with sufficient labor at home, who could spare some hands. I came back to the village to see who would be available to lend my father a hand.”

”What kind of list?” Fan Zhong asked curiously.

Shu Yu handed the list to the village chief. Fan Zhong, who could read, saw his own son’s name at first glance.

Pleased, he continued to look at the others on the list; indeed, they were all from households with strong labor forces, less land, and hard-working people.

However, those ranked at the top of the list were all households that had a good relationship with Lu Erbai.

Seeing this list, the village chief was even more delighted. Now that the Lu family was prospering, they still remembered the fellow villagers, and when they had suitable work, they did not forget to pull the villagers up with them -- this was indeed a good thing.

Fan Zhong said to Shu Yu, ”Since Monarch Lu Xiang has given me this list, I’ll send someone to call them over. You must be tired from the trip; why not come inside to rest and have some tea?”

”Then I’ll trouble the village chief.”

Fan Zhong laughed heartily, ”It’s no trouble, no trouble at all.”

He turned and instructed his son, who came with him, to call the people. Lu Erbai was worried that Shu Yu wouldn’t recognize the people, but Fan Zhong wasn’t worried; after a few words, Fan’s youngest son knew what to do and ran off immediately.

Only then Shu Yu turned and followed Madam Li into the yard.

The other villagers glanced at each other; by the time they gathered their wits to ask if there were any other jobs available, Fan Zhong had already entered the yard of the Lu family and the gates were closed.

However, no one noticed that Ying Xi, who was next to Shu Yu, had disappeared.

As soon as Shu Yu entered, Madam Li kindly offered him water.

Shu Yu looked around; aside from Madam Li, it seemed that there was no one else at home.

Shu Yu asked, ”Where are Eldest Uncle and the others?”

”Oh, your Eldest Uncle is out working in the fields, and Erniu is with him weeding and hoeing. Lanhua has gone to Cuihua’s house in town. That Ge family boy came by yesterday, so I told Lanhua to avoid him to prevent any trouble.”

Hearing that Qi Fei had come by yesterday, Shu Yu frowned slightly, ”Eldest Aunt, if he comes again, it might be better to find a way to send him away. His lingering here, looking pitiful—for too long, the rumors will start changing direction.”

Madam Li was indifferent, ”How could they change direction? It was their family’s fault in the first place, how could others blame us?”

”You might be surprised, but I just heard someone sympathizing with Qi Fei. It’s clear he wants to cast himself as a man of deep love, and if Lanhua keeps avoiding him, people might think she’s cold-hearted and unwise.”

Madam Li’s expression changed slightly, ”Really...?”
