The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 939: Chapter 939: The Large Common Room

The Lai family had many brothers and sisters, so they opened a food shop in the town, which kept them busy.

During the busy farming season, Lai Jinhai would usually go to Shangshi Village to help his father-in-law, Lu Dasong, with some work, but now it seems that he was sent by Cuihua to help with the house construction.

Cuihua, as the eldest cousin of the Lu family’s grandchildren, truly lived up to the role.

When Shu Yu’s carriage stopped at the entrance of the grand house, the resting villagers of Shangshi Village stood up in a rustling manner, poking their heads out to look this way.

In their hands, they all held a small bowl of water; on such a hot day, Ying Dong naturally wouldn’t let them travel all this way without even being able to drink water.

As Erbai stepped down from the mule carriage, the first person he saw was Liang Wangsheng standing at the very corner, looking much more frail than before, which stirred a bit of sourness in his heart.

He patted Lai Jinhai on the shoulder, then called to Fan Dabao and the others, ”It’s hot outside, don’t stand out there, come in and sit for a bit.”

Everyone was carrying a bundle; upon hearing this, they followed Shu Yu and Erbai into the grand house.

From the outside, the house already looked impressively large, but now, as they walked around the screen wall and looked up, they realized their imaginations had been too limited.

Is this really a triple courtyard?

Some among them had worked in the three-courtyard homes of wealthy families, but none were better than the house before their eyes.

The group murmured among themselves in awe: The Lu family had really prospered; Erbai had nearly bankrupted himself in search of his daughter, it must be that even heaven couldn’t stand by and watch, compensating them now was truly the envy of others.

Inside the grand house, besides the Lu family’s servants, there were also Craftsman Zheng and the group of temporary workers who had arrived yesterday.

These people had started getting busy yesterday, and today when they saw Erbai come over, they just raised their hand to greet him and then got back to their work buzzing with activity.

The villagers from Shangshi Village, seeing this, did not want to be outdone and were ready to roll up their sleeves and join in.

They had come to work, not to sightsee.

Erbai quickly stepped in, pointing at the bundles they were carrying, ”No rush, set down your things first.”

While speaking, he led them to the back room.

The back room had several chambers with broken doors and windows, but since the materials had been delivered yesterday and there were workers available, Erbai had people fix these doors and windows first and the rooms were tidied up as well.

However, the conditions were naturally limited; it was all large communal sleeping areas.

He stood at the doorway of one such room and said, ”This is where we’ll sleep at night. We’re working for a long time, and although we have several rooms, many are not fixed yet, so we have to squeeze in for now. There are about three rooms like this; you can discuss among yourselves where to stay.”

”This is already very good,” He Ping said, making a round inside the room, ”When we worked for other employers before, the rooms weren’t even this large. A tiny big communal sleeping area, at least housing ten people, turning over was difficult.”

But now they had three rooms; dividing eighteen people among them meant six people per room, which was quite spacious.

The others nodded in agreement.

Erbai heard this and started to laugh, as he too had had such experiences before.

”Alright then, if you need anything later on, just find me. If I’m not around, look for Craftsman Zheng or Ying Dong.”

Everyone responded and quickly figured out which room to stay in, then put down their bundles and were ready to work.

Seeing them so eager, Erbai could only start assigning tasks to them.
