The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 925: Chapter 925: The Ge Family Lad Comes Calling

Shu Yu stepped down from the carriage; some villagers, upon seeing her, quickly turned and ran to find the village chief.

Others wanted to approach Shu Yu and speak to her, but Ying Xi, serving as both her maid and guard, felt a strong sense of responsibility and blocked them from getting too close.

The person was taken aback and forced out a sheepish laugh.

Shu Yu didn’t notice and continued walking forward.

The onlookers ahead hadn’t noticed Shu Yu and were still eagerly gossiping and pointing fingers; Shu Yu faintly overheard Lanhua’s name.

She gently tapped on the shoulder of an enthusiastic woman in front of her and asked softly, ”What happened?”

The woman, without turning her head, whispered, ”Sitting at that gateway is the youngest son of the Ge Family. Wasn’t this lad previously engaged to Lanhua? But as soon as they heard about Lanhua’s cousin being exiled, the Ge Family reneged on the engagement in a panic. Now that they know her cousin has become the Village Chief, they shamelessly want to reconcile. Tsk, the audacity.”

”Reconcile?” Shu Yu narrowed her eyes.

The woman nodded, ”That’s right, he says he wanted to marry Lanhua from the moment he saw her, and even when the news of Monarch Lu Xiang’s exile came out, he never contemplated breaking off the engagement. Alas, his parents locked him at home, preventing him from going anywhere. The decision to break off the engagement was his parents’, not his. Look, he arrived early this morning, just sitting at the gateway, insisting on seeing Lanhua at any cost.”

Another woman nearby said, ”I actually believe what he says could be true; when they came to break off the engagement, it really was just his parents, he wasn’t present. Seeing him like this, he does seem genuinely fond of Lanhua.”

While speaking, the woman casually looked up.

The next moment, she froze, ”Monarch, Monarch Lu Xiang.”

The woman in front of Shu Yu who had just wanted to argue turned around at the mention of the title and widened her eyes in shock.

Shu Yu smiled at them, ”Let me through, please.”

”Eh, sure, sure, Village Chief, please enter.”

The unusual reaction of the two women made everyone else come to their senses, and a path was immediately cleared in front of Shu Yu.

Shu Yu, followed by Ying Xi, made her way unobstructed to the Lu family’s main entrance, finally laying eyes on the youngest son of the Ge Family.

That person now sat on the steps by the door, leaning against the doorframe, looking despondent and pitiable with his hair in disarray and blood on his forehead — whether from hitting or bumping into something was unclear.

His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked extremely frail. His shoes were covered in mud, as if he had been running all over the place.

At first glance, he did indeed appear regretful and in pain, stirring pity.

No wonder some of the village women believed his story.

Shu Yu stopped in front of him, and the man looked up, ”You...”

Good, his voice was hoarse too.

Shu Yu smiled and said, ”You must be Ge Qifei?”

”Yes, it’s me.” Ge Qifei sized her up, and as he overheard the other villagers whispering nearby, he quickly figured out her identity.

Propping himself up with his palms, he staggered to stand but still feigned ignorance, asking, ”Who are you?”

Shu Yu laughed, turning to Ying Xi and said, ”He’s blocking the entrance; throw him out for me.”

”Yes, miss.”

Ying Xi, strong as she was, grabbed the frail Ge Qifei by his collar.

It was just unfortunate that she was too short and could only pull him forward; Ge Qifei stumbled as he was forced down the steps and was promptly thrown onto the ground ahead by Ying Xi.
