The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 916: Chapter 916: A Figure Like a Scapegoat

Shu Yu swept her gaze around, her voice slightly deep, ”I believe you all know who I am, and you probably have heard about my exile. I don’t know what you think in your hearts, nor do I care. All I hope is that you remember one thing, to stick to your duties.”

”You should be clear that for a girl like me, who hasn’t even come of age, to return safely from the exile area and even become the Village Chief, it’s definitely not just luck. I’m easy to talk to; as long as there’s reason, I can listen. If you behave and do your work well, I will treat you kindly. But if you do something you shouldn’t, I won’t hesitate to let you know what I’m capable of.”

Those below indeed knew about her background, and also that the entire Lu family was just a poor household in the village last year.

Naturally, their thoughts were complex. Many who suddenly come into wealth tend to get arrogant, and they were afraid the Lu family would be the same.

It wasn’t until they saw Lu Erbai, and noticed that he didn’t put on any airs while speaking and handling matters, that they breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the master’s family must be as down-to-earth as before.

They naturally compared him with the previous masters. For the time being, they didn’t notice anything amiss, but as for what thoughts they might have in the future from such comparisons, it’s hard to say.

But now, Shu Yu’s warning was like a sudden splash of cold water.

Indeed, how could a young lady who returned unscathed from the exile area be a simple character?

For the Lu family to have pursued her courageously, traveling thousands of miles as if they were staking everything, describing them as naive seems somewhat inappropriate.

The expressions on everyone’s faces changed and changed again. Shu Yu glanced at them and asked, ”Do you all understand what I’ve said?”

”Understood, Village Chief.”

”From now on at home, just call me Second Miss.”

”Yes.”

”Next is your arrangement. Hua Xian, Ying Xi, you will come back to Liufang Alley with me tomorrow. Ying Dong, you stay here. If there is anything, my father will instruct you, and you can pass on the orders. As for the others, you’ve seen for yourselves, the estate is now being renovated, and in a few days, there will be many laborers coming. Help out by preparing meals and tidying up. If there are any issues, you can raise them. I will satisfy any reasonable requests.”

Everyone hurriedly agreed.

Shu Yu then went to check the cottages that had been cleared out earlier. Several cottages had common sleeping areas, and now with limited conditions, a few cottage windows needed to be replaced. Thus, two common sleeping areas were set up, and there were several rooms, to make do for now.

After Shu Yu finished giving instructions, Ding Yuehua also ran over.

She was exceptionally excited, ”Yu, I just adore your estate.”

”The Fan family is close by, so feel free to come over and visit whenever you have time.”

”Sure.” Ding Yuehua was happy.

However, she never imagined that the Fan family indeed was nearby, but Yu was too busy, so busy that she was rarely at home, and Ding Yuehua often found herself visiting in vain.

After the big house’s affairs were explained and it was getting late, Ding Yuehua escorted Shu Yu back to Liufang Alley.

The carriage stopped at the entrance of the alley, and Ding Yuehua did not go in to sit. She still had to go back to the Ding family to check on her mother. After watching Yu enter the alley, she then turned to return home.

Shu Yu walked leisurely towards her home, only to be surprised upon opening the courtyard door, she saw a somewhat familiar figure standing inside, resembling someone who’d been swindled.
