The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 923: Chapter 923: I’m Going to Shangshi Village for a Hiring Event

The old lady was no longer opposed; her son was living a good life with property in the county town, so of course, as a mother, she was also happy.

After conveying the message, Lu Erbai was ready to leave, but Sanya grabbed him, ”Dad, we need to change the name.”

Lu Erbai was perplexed, ”Change what name?”

Shu Yu then relayed to them what Meng Yunzheng had said. Lu Erbai pondered, while the old lady had already felt it was time for a change.

”Dahu is now a scholar, and a scholar should have a name befitting a scholar,” just like Scholar Tang from the village, no, Scholarly Man Tang, whose name was pleasant to hear and easy to remember.

Lu Erbai had no objections, but as an uneducated man who had never been to school, coming up with a name was quite challenging for him.

He scratched his head and, looking down at Sanya, said, ”Sanya, Dad’s got some things to take care of now. Why don’t we wait until tonight when I get back home and your mother and Dahu are back too, and then we can look through some books to see if we can find a good-sounding name with a nice meaning?”

Sanya was curious, ”Do we need to look it up in books?”

Lu Erbai, ”...” If he didn’t look it up in books, he could only come up with names like Dahu and Sanya.

”Why don’t you give it some thought in the meantime?” the old lady suggested.

Sanya’s eyes indeed lit up, ”Okay, I’ll come up with ten or eight names and then choose the best one. The names I think of will definitely sound great.”

Excitedly, she ran into the house to flip through books.

Shu Yu shook her head as, at that moment, a knocking sounded at the gate.

Daya was closer and hurried to open the door.

It was Ying Xi, Hua Xian, and the coachman who had come. It was Shu Yu who had asked Ying Xi and the other people to come; today, the coachman was supposed to take Lu Erbai to Shangshi Village to hire some people.

However, before Lu Erbai could step out, he heard Ying Xi say, ”Lord, a good number of people have arrived at Fenghuai Street. My brother said they are the laborers Lord negotiated with yesterday. Craftsman Zheng was arranging it, but there’s something wrong with the plans that need re-measuring, and with the lumber also delivered, Craftsman Zheng is too busy...”

Before Ying Xi could finish, Lu Erbai was taken aback, ”Those workers came so quickly?”

Just last night, he had dined with the people Yuan Shanchuan had found, and they had even drunk alcohol, so he had thought they would need at least until the afternoon or the next morning to gather people. He didn’t expect them to show up now; that was too fast.

There were problems with the plans, which he definitely needed to check on.

It seemed that the trip to Shangshi Village would have to wait until tomorrow.

Shu Yu said, ”Dad, you go to the big house on Fenghuai Street. I’ll go to Shangshi Village. Just write down the names of the uncles you want to hire, and I’ll look for them.”

”Do you have the time?”

”Yes,” Shu Yu laughed, ”it’s perfect, I was also planning to visit the village to discuss with Eldest Uncle about repairing the family grave.”

Lu Erbai thought it was a good idea, ”Then give me a moment, and I’ll write you the list of names.”

Yu was unfamiliar with the villagers of Shangshi Village, and since their names were all very similar, Lu Erbai also wrote down their addresses for her.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Shu Yu began to introduce Hua Xian to the old lady.

”Grandmother, this is Hua Xian that I mentioned to you yesterday. She’s skilled in back-patting and massage treatments. She’ll be staying at our home these days to keep you company.”

Hua Xian immediately stepped forward and, somewhat nervously, performed a courtesy.

When she looked up, she noticed the old lady seemed even more nervous than her.

The old lady didn’t want to seem apprehensive, but wasn’t it her first time meeting a maid? So she didn’t know where to put her hands and feet for a moment.

Shu Yu took her hand, leaned in, and whispered, ”Grandmother, just treat her like a junior. If you find her agreeable, you can treat her with your kind expression. If she’s disobedient, don’t hesitate to tell her off or scold her as necessary. There’s no need to be nervous.”
