My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2375: Chapter 2208: Begging for Mercy

Fate cannot make us kneel and beg for mercy, even if blood is spilled all over our embrace.

Actually, some things never crossed our minds as happening to ourselves. In fact, if one day I wake up and find there’s no shadow of you beside me, I would feel very lonely.

Old Master Zhang knew every word his grandson said was correct. After all, he was experienced; he had been through all that himself and understood what things were beneficial for his child. He understood what actions should be taken and which should not. His current intervention was merely to prevent the relationship between father and son from drifting further apart, but he did not anticipate being moved by his grandson’s perspective. Indeed, wouldn’t it be best if one’s child could unconditionally obey them? To prevent a person from being oppressed by others, one must relentlessly push them until they grow strong and feared, allowing them to peacefully journey through their life. However, sometimes being too strict with one’s child isn’t good either, making the child feel as if they’re being deliberately controlled, fostering a rebellious spirit that leads to a loss of trust similar to the past. Perhaps this is the way father and son should relate to each other. Unfortunately, it’s only now that he understands this principle. It seems his grandson truly exceeds him in many ways, grasping all these truths at such a young age—remarkably rare.

”Yichen, no matter what decision you make, I, your grandfather, will always support you quietly behind the scenes because I watched you grow up. I understand that certain decisions are made only out of necessity, otherwise you wouldn’t make them. But I hope you comprehend a truth: many things aren’t done simply by deciding to do them. Many matters could leave lifelong regrets due to personal reasons and mistakes. I’m telling you this today without any ulterior motive; I just hope the relationship between you and your father doesn’t become awful and awkward, so I hope you won’t resent me. If you feel I’m interfering too much, then I won’t involve myself in your matters anymore, regardless of what happens between you and your father in the future. What do you think?” Old Master Zhang indirectly posed a choice to his grandson. If Yichen chose to let him continue meddling, then he would incessantly intervene in their affairs. But if Yichen stated he didn’t want interference, then he would consciously step back, never addressing any issue between them. This indeed is a choice because selecting correctly leads to well-being, while selecting wrong brings lifelong torment.

Zhang Yichen understood his grandfather’s reasoning and the implications of making a wrong choice. Though sometimes he found his grandfather bothersome—often involving himself in matters where he wasn’t needed, leaving Yichen feeling awkward—when facing situations where he needed his grandfather’s intervention, Old Master Zhang remained absent, making life exceedingly difficult. When seeking help, no one came forward; when not needing help, everyone wanted to manage him—a major dilemma. But what could he do? He couldn’t tell his grandfather to stop managing him, as that would cause his grandfather great anguish. It seems he’ll have to speak deceitful words once again.

”Grandfather, it’s impossible for me to support every one of your actions unconditionally because, truthfully, I find you bothersome. When I need help the most, you aren’t there, yet when I don’t need assistance, you arrive, placing me in a challenging spot. Nonetheless, our relationship should remain harmonious. So, Grandfather, I don’t want to contemplate too much. I merely hope you can assist me when I urgently need help in the future. Certainly, I am not implying your interventions are wrong, but you shouldn’t involve yourself in certain matters—like today’s. If you plead again and I heed every one of your requests today, wouldn’t my son think I’m a coward, someone who becomes nothing before my grandfather and cannot keep my word? If he encounters problems, would he come to us, or directly resort to you? If he creates trouble later, he’ll feel unafraid because you’ll shelter him, thinking it doesn’t matter since you’re backing him. I can’t free him just like that as it fosters a fragile mentality, repeatedly encouraging a mindset of sheer luck, always believing someone will rescue him. But is that the truth? In this society, if mistakes are made, does someone truly rescue him every time? No. His naiveté is unnerving; I don’t grasp why he remains so innocent. And some ideas shouldn’t exist, yet he possesses them during our conversations. Isn’t that terrifying? Grandfather, concerning numerous matters, you likely know better about educational measures beneficial for a child. I’m grateful for your guidance leading me here. But as for my son, I wish to educate him properly myself. Your cooperation is all that’s necessary, for I believe in my capability to nurture him into a genius, unlike my father, someone I perceive abandoned me, leaving an enduring heartache. For my son, similarly abandoned by his grandparents, doesn’t this leave a scar in his heart too? Yet he opts to remain silent, uncertain how to express it, unaware of where to begin!”

Old Master Zhang finally understood why his grandson didn’t want him to intervene or educate his son. Yichen wanted him to relax a bit. Although he never voiced it, the implication was clear. Perhaps he was indeed meddling unnecessarily in others’ affairs.

I can’t cease my love for my wife, nor can I erase the hurt I’ve caused her. Those wounds can’t be forgotten.

One day it will sprout again, enchanting and brilliant in the future.
