My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2362: Chapter 2195: What We Once Expected

Do you remember when you asked me what would become of us?

Zhang Yichen was here talking all the time; he didn’t pay attention to his wife. He always thought his wife should be very understanding, but during this period, he hadn’t heard her say a single word to him. He didn’t understand what his wife was truly thinking deep inside. Maybe he felt there was nothing to say to him!

But she remembers that his wife was never like this before. What happened today? Since the day his parents returned, she hadn’t spoken a single extra word to him.

Could it be that deep down, his wife wasn’t willing to say anything more to him? Or was it torture for him to say even one more word to her? He remembers that all these years, he hadn’t treated her badly. Every time, he sincerely gave her what he thought was best. He sacrificed a lot for her. But why is the situation like this now, and why doesn’t she want to say even a single sentence to him?

Zhang Zhentian seemed to have also noticed his daughter-in-law’s abnormality. He always felt that his daughter-in-law was an understanding person. He thought she would definitely interact with him as her father-in-law, but he didn’t expect that since he returned to this home, she hadn’t spoken much to him. When she did, it was just a few indifferent concerns, nothing more.

”Zhihan, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you talking to me? Did I do something to upset you? You know that Dad and Mom just came back, and I also hope for a stable, happy life for this family. I don’t want any more conflicts between us. Your behavior now is really hard for me to understand. What’s making you so dismissive towards me as your husband?”

”Yichen, I know you want your parents to come back, and I also hope for their return. I know deep inside, you’ve always longed for their love, even if just a little would make you extremely happy because you’ve lacked motherly love for so many years!

I feel the same as you. I can forgive them for not being with you all these years, but I can’t pretend nothing matters. I’ve seen your pain with my own eyes. I met you in the deep mountains when you were covered in blood standing in front of me, injuries everywhere, but you weren’t crying, you were still smiling strongly at me!

At that moment, the feeling you gave me was that this boy is so smart and strong. Why is he so injured and bleeding everywhere, yet doesn’t cry? I really watched you from a distance for a long time. I was watching, expecting your parents to come looking for you. I naively thought you had a fight with them and were accidentally left in this valley, sure they’d come soon to find you. But your answer ultimately disappointed me!

You told me you were training in the mountains, and your parents weren’t with you. At that moment, I felt sorry for you. Why would other parents want to stay by their child’s side but not yours?

You know my parents were always poor. They were even too poor to support my schooling. But you know, even so, they never thought of abandoning me. No matter what, they chose to keep me with them because, in their hearts, I’m their child, an inseparable part of them. But you, what have you gotten these years? Nothing. You didn’t even know your parents’ whereabouts. You just blindly trained again and again, numbing yourself through harsh methods!

You think as long as you don’t dwell on these things, they can be forgotten, like they never happened. But you forgot that some things can’t be erased; they imprint on your mind over and over, no matter how much you try to forget or move on. Can you really let go of everything? Can you really pretend your parents never abandoned you? You can’t, because deep inside, you still remember these things. You’ll never forget.

I’m not saying these things out of any ulterior motive. I just feel discontented on your behalf. You easily chose to forgive them just because of a few words and because they want to make it up to you. So you can unconditionally forget all the harm they caused. But I can’t!

You are my partner, my husband. We know what we’ve been through together all these years. How could I let go of all past hurts because of some situation? I also understand that only by moving forward can we have a long future. But I don’t want to continue looking ahead. No matter how many times I look forward, I can’t go back to the past. After waiting for so many years, thanks to you, I finally got together with you, searched the world, and I am grateful for the outcome we have. But your ending deeply breaks my heart. You may sometimes be distant with me, but ultimately, you’re my dear one. I can’t just watch you live in pain!”

Zhang Yichen knew that everything his wife did was for him. But some words, though unintended, hit hard on the listener.

”Zhihan, stop concerning yourself with these things. Since I chose to forgive my parents, it means that deep down, I’ve truly accepted them. No matter what mistakes they made in the past, how they treated me, please don’t hold onto it. Holding on will make us both more passive, don’t you know? We just want a happy and peaceful family. Think about our child too; she’s been living the same life as me all these years. You know this. How can you bear to see your husband in pain and your child suffer again, as a mother and a wife? What we must do most is protect our family from harm!

I believe you can let go if I can because I know that deep inside, your heart has me. I don’t believe you can be so ruthless to see your little family hurt...”

I once thought we would never part, but now I understand that the reunion after separation is what lasts forever!
