My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2361: Chapter 2194: On Repression

”Grandpa, now I finally understand what it means that although life is precious, love is even more valuable.”

Old Master Zhang knew his son would surely say he didn’t remember, but how could he let him off?

”Don’t tell me you don’t remember, I’ve memorized everything for you!

Back then, you probably found me, your father, quite speechless, right?”

Zhang Zhentian really was at a loss for words with Old Master Zhang. How could this be? Isn’t it usually ”forgetting your mother once you get a wife”? How did it turn into forgetting your son once you get a daughter-in-law?

Zhang Zhentian felt quite unbalanced; he never expected his dad to be such a grandson-crazed fanatic. Ever since Xia Jingyi got pregnant, he even set aside his own son. Sigh! Seems like the days ahead will be tough...

”How does it feel to be inexplicably yelled at? Is it quite thrilling? Let’s see if you’ll dare to randomly yell at me in the future, hmph!” Xia Jing watched Zhang Zhentian, who was simmering with frustration, and felt her mood significantly lighten.

”You... you...” Zhang Zhentian was so mad at Xia Jing that he could barely speak. Pointing a finger at Xia Jing, he said, ”You did it on purpose, didn’t you?”

”Oh? What did I do on purpose? Did I intentionally do anything? And from now on, you shouldn’t just point fingers at me willy-nilly, or else I’ll go tell Dad that you’re bullying me!” Ever since Old Master Zhang helped Xia Jing teach Zhang Zhentian a lesson, Xia Jing had started to turn the tables on him! When Zhang Zhentian bullied Xia Jing, she could go complain to Old Master Zhang. But if Xia Jing bullied Zhang Zhentian, he couldn’t go complain to his own dad, because even if he did, his father would definitely side with Xia Jing, not him!

”Fine, a good man doesn’t fight with women, consider this your win!” Zhang Zhentian said, reluctantly.

”What is this about a good man not fighting with women? Clearly, you just can’t beat me so you’re admitting defeat, right? Besides, is admitting defeat in front of your wife really that shameful? Acting like you’re suffering the greatest injustice! Making it seem like I’m bullying you!”

Xia Jing originally had no malicious intent, but saying it in such a tone made it hard not to overthink. Zhang Zhentian felt like Xia Jing was mocking him, and he was not pleased. He glared at Xia Jing, and Xia Jing, noticing Zhang Zhentian’s wide eyes, said to him, ”Hey, Zhentian, why are your eyes so wide? Are they uncomfortable? You’re staring at me with eyes wide open, and it’s making me feel flattered!”

Not only did Xia Jing not restrain herself because of Zhang Zhentian’s glare, but she joked with him, leaving Zhang Zhentian at a loss. Now with Xia Jing, he couldn’t scold or say anything, otherwise, he’d be in big trouble. It made Zhang Zhentian feel so stifled; he’d never been so frustrated before. He wished he could just stuff a piece of cloth in Xia Jing’s mouth so she’d be quiet, but then he’d be doomed!

”I’m not talking to you anymore!” Zhang Zhentian said, then turned and left.

After Zhang Zhentian left, Xia Jing received a call from Li Jiayuan: ”Sis, what are you up to?”

”Jiayuan, what made you think to call me today?” Xia Jing, in stark contrast to her attitude with Zhang Zhentian, responded to Li Jiayuan with a cheerful smile.

”I have good news for you. Let’s meet at Star Coffee Shop, see you there!” Li Jiayuan said, then hung up.

Xia Jing grabbed her handbag, ready to go see Li Jiayuan. As she reached the door, Aunt Xu walked over and said, ”Xia Jing, where are you going? The master said you shouldn’t be going out these days!”

”Aunt Xu, it’s fine. I’m just going out to buy some things for the baby and meet up with Jiayuan. I’ll be back soon! You don’t have to worry, I’m running out of time, so I’m heading out now!” Xia Jing said, then hurriedly left, fearing that if she stayed a moment longer, Aunt Xu wouldn’t let her leave, so she dashed out with her bag.

”Wow, the air outside is so nice. I haven’t been out in over a month, and now I’m finally out, yay!” Xia Jing was overjoyed. For the past month, aside from sleeping, she’d been getting bullied by Zhang Zhentian, with no time to go out. Now, she intended to stay out and have fun as much as she could before heading back!

Star Coffee Shop.

”Sis, you’re here, come sit!” Li Jiayuan greeted Xia Jing warmly. Xia Jing was a bit unaccustomed to it; she and Li Jiayuan used to be rivals in love, and now they were sitting so peacefully together. This change was really quick!

”Jiayuan, tell me, what’s the good news that you just had to tell me in person?” Xia Jing asked with a big smile.

Seeing Xia Jing smiling continuously, Li Jiayuan couldn’t help but ask, ”Sis, do you have good news too? You’ve been smiling nonstop; care to share it with me?”

”Mine’s not important, you tell yours first!” Xia Jing declined politely.

”Alright then, I’ll go first. I’m getting married to Xiao Wei next week!”

”Really! That’s wonderful. It’s about time you two had your wedding. I’m so happy for you both, and I sincerely hope you have a long and happy marriage with many children soon!” Xia Jing said, genuinely happy for Li Jiayuan and Xiao Wei. She added, ”You and Xiao Wei have been through as much as Zhentian and I, so I hope you cherish each other!”

”Yes, we must. Oh, I’ve told you my good news, now shouldn’t you tell me yours?” Li Jiayuan quickly asked, fearing Xia Jing might forget to share.

Xia Jing leaned in and quietly said to Li Jiayuan, ”I’m pregnant!”

”Really?”

”Yes, it’s confirmed!”

”Sis, congratulations, congratulations! I was thinking of asking you to give me a big red envelope at my wedding, but now let’s just forget about it!” Li Jiayuan suddenly felt a bit deflated.

”How can we just forget about it? I definitely have to give you a red envelope!” Xia Jing didn’t understand why Li Jiayuan suddenly decided against it.

”Sis, think about it. Next week, at my wedding, you’ll give me a big red envelope, right?”

”Yes, but so what?”

”You give me a big red envelope, and then ten months later, when your son is born, won’t I have to give you an even bigger red envelope?” Li Jiayuan asked.

”It does seem to make sense!” Xia Jing nodded thoughtfully.

”So, you might as well not give me one, then when your son is born, I won’t have to give a big red envelope!” Li Jiayuan thought she was really smart for thinking this way and expected Xia Jing to agree, but surprisingly, Xia Jing didn’t agree and instead made even bigger demands.

”That won’t do. Each matter is separate; I’ll definitely give you a wedding red envelope, and it will be a big one. Then you can give my son an even bigger red envelope, and when your child is born, I’ll give them a super big red envelope. How does that sound?” Xia Jing tried to persuade Li Jiayuan.

The silly Li Jiayuan actually agreed, thinking Xia Jing made a good point, and she herself thought it sounded fair.

”Sounds good, then it’s settled. Alright, I have to head back now. With the wedding approaching, Xiao Wei and I are super busy, and we were hoping you’d help out, but looks like that’s not possible. If your husband finds out, I might not even know how I met my end!” Li Jiayuan said as she bid farewell and left.

Xia Jing checked the time and, thinking it was getting late, decided to head back too.

Life is about self-discipline!
