My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2356: Chapter 2189: Extraordinary

In the past, every impression you left on me was extraordinary, making it impossible for me to forget.

”Chen Gang, things shouldn’t be like this between us. I’ve known all these years that you’ve been waiting for me, but we’re truly not suitable for each other. Back when we were classmates, I ruthlessly rejected you, which proves that I’ll never be with you in this lifetime. You should have given up all hope back then and stopped waiting for me. Now you’ve waited for me for so many years by yourself, and you want me to divorce my husband now that you’ve returned? Do you think that’s possible?

I don’t care whether my marriage is happy or not. A happy marriage is something you fight for yourself, something you maintain with dedication. If my marriage isn’t happy, it only proves that I lack the ability, that I can’t make my husband love me wholeheartedly. But what about you?

You still haven’t married, and you could find a complete woman to love you wholeheartedly and spend most of your life with, so why waste it on a married woman like me? It’s not worth it!”

”Zihan, for me, there’s no such thing as worth it or not. I only know that I can’t let go of you in my heart. All these years, you’ve always held the most important place in my heart, and I think of you constantly. I don’t know how to forget you. I’ve tried to forget you, but I can’t. I can’t do it. I’ve also tried to be with others to gradually forget my feelings for you, but it has never worked!

I know your pride won’t let you give up your husband because you think he’s the person who loves you the most. But do you know that I love you just as much as he does? All these years, I’ve longed to be with you. You don’t understand the feelings in my heart. Do you realize how much I wish you would promise to be with me, even if just for one day, as husband and wife, and I would be satisfied.

I originally thought that once I returned home after studying abroad, I’d see you again. When I saw you again, I wouldn’t have to let go of your hand like I did in the past, and I could truly be with you. But I didn’t realize that when I returned from my studies, you were already married and had children.

Have you ever thought about the pain in my heart due to these changes? I only wanted a peaceful life, but I can’t have that life. Why can you live here so happily, having everything you want, while I’m still waiting alone, hoping one day you could be with me? Is this fair to me?

Even though I understand there’s no real fairness in this world, doesn’t your heart want to know my true thoughts? Has your heart never been moved by me for even a single moment? I only want a woman who feels something for me, to be with me. We’ve known each other since we were young, and understand each other better than anyone else. Don’t you want to give me a chance to be your lifelong companion and spend the rest of your life with you?”

As Chen Gang spoke, he grew more emotional. This was the most painful day of his life, watching the woman he loved most right before his eyes, yet powerless as she had already become someone else’s wife. He could only watch from the sidelines as she lived happily with someone else, powerless himself. He wished time could go back a few years, and back then, he would have dropped all his studies to hurry home. Maybe things wouldn’t have turned out so badly if he had returned then. If it weren’t for how things are now, these dilemmas would never exist.

”Chen Gang, actually you’re mistaken. Although we studied together from a young age and understand each other no less than anyone else, do you know that I knew my husband even before we started school? Back then, I decided to marry no one else, and he promised me he’d return to marry me. So, all these years, I’ve been waiting for him, tirelessly searching until I found him. How could I easily give up on the greatest love of my life? I could never abandon him for someone insignificant, even if my marriage is troubled now. I don’t care; what matters is being with him. But this incident with you today makes it difficult for me to face him.

You’re right; my love is merely your own idea, and you never cared about what I truly wanted. You always thought your words, that you love me, made your love genuine. But do you know this isn’t love; it’s harm? If your heart truly loved me, you wouldn’t do this to me, wouldn’t make me unable to face my husband. You’re wanting me to divorce him—why? Maybe when I go back today, we’ll fight fiercely, but I don’t care. Maybe he’ll throw me out, maybe he’ll take me to file for divorce, but none of that matters. I only want to stay by his side, truly be his wife. I don’t want to give up the love I’ve fought hard for all these years.

I’m begging you to let me go. Show mercy to others as you’d want mercy for yourself. By letting me go, you’re letting yourself go too, aren’t you? Why be so stubborn? It’s not good for anyone, not only hurting me but also yourself. My marriage may be ruined because of what’s happened today, but there’s nothing I can do. Although I’m not the main reason, although I’m not the main culprit, I can’t face my husband. He loves me deeply, willing to give me everything good in the world, yet what about me? I hurt him so much—why should I expect him to continue loving me? Even if I divorce him, I won’t be with you, because someone like you doesn’t deserve it.

I understand that as a humble woman, I’m in no position to say such things, but I hope you understand. Since none of my decisions can be forcibly changed, there’s only one outcome: we can’t even be friends. Since you’ve done this, let’s not contact each other again. Let’s end it here!”

Many times, only when you’re personally happy can happiness dwell in the deepest part of your heart.
