My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2091: Chapter 1924: The Journey

Every step taken is so arduous, often leaving me unclear about what it is I truly want. It takes a long, long time to realize how empty it all still is!

”Honey, I want to probe the young man more when he comes to our home. I want to see how deeply he loves our daughter. If he can disregard everything for her throughout his life, then I’ll agree to them being together. Perhaps I should believe that fate truly wants them together, otherwise how could they have met by destiny over ten years ago and maintained their relationship for so long? I believe their relationship hasn’t come easy. Honey, please call the young man over to our home!”

”Alright, since you want to test him again, I’ll make the call and invite him over. But let me make it clear in advance, don’t be too hard on him. After all, someone else’s child shouldn’t be troubled carelessly. Even if he is our future son-in-law, we shouldn’t behave that way and let people look down on ordinary folks like us. If we make things difficult for their son due to past issues, it will only lead them to bully our daughter even more in the future. We should pave a perfect life path for our daughter...”

”Hmm... okay...”

Zhang Yichen is in a meeting at the company. Once he handles the matters here, he plans to search nationwide for the girl he loves. He cannot abandon some of his work because no one else can complete it except him. If he entrusts it to his secretary, it will only make Old Master Zhang think he is useful. He doesn’t want his grandfather to see through him or to know that he is neglecting his career for a woman.

”Auntie, hello, may I ask why you called me?” Zhang Yichen asked Ran Zhihan’s mother.

”Child, it’s like this, my husband wants you to come to our home. He has some things he’d like to discuss with you. Do you have time now?”

”Yes, Auntie, please wait a moment, I’ll be there shortly.”

At Ran Zhihan’s home.

”Uncle, Auntie, I’m here now. Uncle, what did you want to discuss with me? Can you tell me now?”

”I didn’t expect you to arrive so quickly. Do you think I called you because I agree with you being with my daughter, and that’s why you rushed to our home?”

”Uncle, I didn’t think that way. I just assumed you called me over because you had news about your daughter. I want to see where she is; I am really worried!”

”Fine, let’s not talk about other things now. I have some matters to discuss with you. If your answers satisfy me, then I will consider allowing you to be with my daughter. But if your answers don’t satisfy me at all, then I hope you’ll never come to bother my daughter again. Break all ties and don’t contact her; don’t go searching for my daughter. Can you promise me that?”

Zhang Yichen hesitated for a while, but eventually, he agreed because he believed he had the ability and confidence to convince his future in-laws.

”Alright, Uncle, please go ahead. If my answers don’t satisfy you at all, I assure you, from this day forward I won’t disturb your daughter’s life or search for her or pester her. I will sever all ties with your daughter. But if my answers satisfy you, Uncle, I also hope you’ll keep your promise to let your daughter marry me.”

”Essentially, I know you are a good kid. I know you are thoughtful and have a very independent and unique mind, daring to innovate and face all difficulties. I believe you are truly a good kid. From another perspective, you are indeed the kind of good man other families’ daughters can entrust their lives to. Your every word makes me almost disbelief that someone only around twenty could have such outstanding conversations; it’s truly hard to believe such a bright child exists in the world. You are indeed much smarter than most, and all your deeds prove your efforts. I also believe every word you’ve said to me is sincere. I know you never lie to us and you aren’t someone who lies. But I won’t just hand my daughter over to you because of all this, letting you two be together. Otherwise, it would be irresponsible of me as a father. I just hope my daughter can live a safe and peaceful life. I don’t have any extravagant hopes; I don’t hope that my future son-in-law will be wealthy or handsome. I only hope my daughter can be loved by her husband, that when her in-laws bully her, her husband will be brave enough to stand out and protect her. That’s good enough for us as parents!”

”Uncle, I don’t understand why you’re saying these things to me?”

”Child, the reason I’m saying these things to you is just to make you understand my intentions as your father. I’ll now ask you a few questions. Can you stand up to your parents for my daughter? When your parents bully my daughter, can you bravely stand up and defy your parents, protecting her? Can you give my daughter a warm hug when she’s sad and crying, rather than showing a cold face? Can you guarantee that after being with my daughter, you won’t get involved with anyone else in your lifetime, won’t be emotionally stirred by another woman, and will be devoted solely to my daughter?”

”Uncle, regarding the questions you’ve asked me, I can answer with utmost certainty that I can. The Zhang Family men have been devoted for generations. No one can match my devotion. You should know that as a wealthy heir, many young ladies want to be with us. Many have much better looks than your daughter, but why am I unwilling to be with them? Because their faces are covered with powders and rouge, which disgusts me. But your daughter is truly pure; she never uses those cosmetics, which provides me with comfort. We also share over ten years of feelings, and I believe with these ten years, I would never be moved by another woman in this lifetime, because she is the girl I most want to marry in this life. I won’t forsake my beloved woman for the sake of another woman or a certain level of benefit. That’s something I hate the most, and I despise men doing so!”

”If you can fulfill what you’ve said today, then I’ll agree to let my daughter marry you!”

”Thank you, Uncle. One day, I will prove to you that I can absolutely fulfill everything I’ve said today...”

Clad in worries against the wind, next time, even if it’s not so easy, I will strive to show a beaming smile.
