My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2090: Chapter 1923: Escape

Your expression was too flustered, how many nights have you waited for me.

Zhang Yichen knew that Xia Jing had once again hidden away to cry secretly. He knew that, although Xia Jing appeared very strong on the outside, her heart was extremely fragile and couldn’t withstand any hurt. But this time, the hurt was too great for Xia Jing; perhaps she would never forget in her lifetime the abandonment of her by her husband!

No woman could endure such pain; the marriage she painstakingly built, the relationship she worked so hard to maintain, all shattered due to a simple mistake. Who could accept this? Maybe in Zhang Zhentian’s eyes, his wife was a strong person who never cried no matter the difficulty, but he never imagined that this time, his wife was utterly heartbroken because of his abandonment, crying secretly every day and night in her bedroom, without anyone knowing!

Xia Jing truly found herself at a dead end. She didn’t know what to do to win her husband’s heart back. Perhaps their fate was destined, and this was just an ending that came a little earlier than expected, catching her off guard.

Zhang Zhentian sought Xia Jing’s whereabouts again and again because of his son, but no one would tell him. He really didn’t know where to find his wife.

On this day, Zhang Zhentian again approached his father, trying to test if his son had told Old Master Zhang where Xia Jing had gone.

Seeing Zhang Zhentian return to the Zhang Family, Old Master Zhang felt a bit perplexed. How could his son suddenly return without prior notice?

Zhang Zhentian watched his father come downstairs and excitedly approached Zhang Mo.

”Why did you think of coming back on your own today? Is there something you want to ask me?” Old Master Zhang didn’t believe his son would return here nonchalantly unless he wanted to uncover some truth from him; otherwise, he wouldn’t step into this house voluntarily.

Hearing this, Zhang Zhentian felt his father must know something, hence asking in such a manner, making him even more excited as he eagerly held his father’s hand and asked, ”I want to ask you, do you know where Xia Jing has gone?”

Old Master Zhang found the question baffling and said to Zhang Zhentian, ”What kind of joke are you pulling, Zhang Zhentian? Your wife is missing, so why are you bringing this to me? What does your missing wife have to do with me? How would I know where she’s gone?”

Zhang Zhentian felt equally perplexed. Didn’t this father know where his wife had gone? So why pretend to be all-knowing to speak with him?

”Didn’t Yichen tell you where Xia Jing went?” Zhang Zhentian asked curiously.

”Don’t you find your question quite amusing? Even if I did know, or if I didn’t, why should I tell you? You made the decision to divorce her, not me, forcing you to make that decision. Although she has chosen to leave, why pursue her to continue hurting her? Perhaps Xia Jing’s heart has truly grown cold towards you by now?”

”I just knew you knew where she went. Since you know, why not tell me? I want to bring her back. As long as she can return to me, I’ll pay any price!”

Old Master Zhang was intrigued by his son’s words, wanting to understand what he meant by paying any price.

”So, tell me, what are you willing to sacrifice for her to return to you?”

”As long as she can come back to me, I will never set foot in the Zhang Family again for the rest of my life. As long as she can come back to me, I will never acknowledge you or my son again for the rest of my life...”

Old Master Zhang was stunned; was he truly so insignificant in Zhang Zhentian’s mind? For a woman, he could abandon him repeatedly.

”Zhang Zhentian, did you forget? You were the one who said you’d divorce her. I tried to persuade you, but you resolutely insisted on divorcing your wife. Now that you’ve made such a decision, what right do you have to regret it? Haven’t you learned that a man’s word is as solid as a team of horses? How can you act so inconsistently? Are your decisions meant to be regretted later each time? Does this show the responsibility a man should bear? To speak harshly, even if you truly abandon us to seek her, she may not live with you again. No woman can forgive her husband for deciding to divorce her over a minor mistake because such hurt can’t be quickly healed. I advised you to think carefully back then, but you were stubborn and didn’t heed my advice, dealing with the matter seriously. Now what use is your regret? Your wife has left, and wherever she is, she won’t continue living with you. Once her heart is broken, it dies, never to easily revive. Do you think a dead heart can come back to life?”

Zhang Zhentian had to admit his father was right, but he couldn’t remain unaffected now. His wife left without warning, and his heart couldn’t stay calm. He was determined to find her no matter where she was, whether it took ten, twenty years, or longer. He wouldn’t stop until he found her.

”Dad, since you don’t know where she went, consider today my farewell. I’ve thought it through. I truly can’t lose the woman I love most, even if she hurt me many times. I can’t let her go from my heart. I want to find her. The world is vast, and I know how difficult it is to find her, but I can’t give up. A bond of over ten years isn’t something you can forget just like that. So many years, each day, each night, each two hours, she was by my side. Without her, my life loses its shine. I only wish to stay with her forever, inseparable. I’m going to find my beloved wife now. During my absence, take care of yourself and wait for me to bring my wife back so we can live the life we want, happily as a family!”

”Since you’ve decided, I won’t stop you. But I hope you’ll remember to think thrice before acting, not to hurt yourself and those you love most...”

Looking at your evasive gaze, why are you so attached to such days, never able to say a simple goodnight!
