My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2072: Chapter 1905: Reluctance to Part

How could one be willing to give up everything they once went through during that period?

When Zhang Zhentian heard Xia Jing say these words, at that moment, he felt his wife suddenly became sensible. He had always hoped that someday his wife would also care for him and consider his difficulties from his perspective. He hadn’t expected this day to come so suddenly, yet when it did, it was his wife wanting to leave him. How could he accept that, and how could he bear to let his wife leave alone? He wished so much to leave with his wife together; after all, more than ten years of marriage cannot be put aside so easily, as if they could simply stop living together?

Perhaps Xia Jing saw through Zhang Zhentian’s feelings; she smiled gently and said to Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhentian, there’s no need for you to be reluctant about me. I’m leaving, but that doesn’t mean I won’t come back. We will still meet again in the future. I’m just going away for a while to give our son some space and let him think about whether he wants his mother by his side. If time passes and he still doesn’t want me as his mother to appear before him, then I can settle abroad. When you miss me, you can come overseas with Dad to see me! I know what you’re thinking, and you don’t need to worry about me. You know that I’m quite independent, and staying at home too long makes me uncomfortable. Instead of leaving later, I’d rather go out now and come back. Don’t you agree?”

Zhang Zhentian knew Xia Jing said these words to comfort him. Although these words made him feel a bit uneasy inside, seeing Xia Jing’s full smile, he couldn’t say anything. He hesitated for a moment, but eventually decided to leave with Xia Jing.

”No matter what you say, I must leave with you. We’ve lived together for over ten years; you can’t live without me, and I can’t live without you. Missing either of us in each other’s lives is a regret. You agreed to this before, the journey of life—no matter how long or short—you said you wanted to walk it hand-in-hand. So how can you just leave me here alone?” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing.

”To be honest, hearing you say this makes me very happy and glad. The luckiest thing in my life is being with you. But don’t act impulsively; since you have returned, don’t choose to leave with me. Didn’t you see Dad’s expectant gaze? Although he sometimes criticizes you, deep down, he longs for you to shamelessly stay and accompany him. He hopes that when he’s old, his son can still be there to respect him. But if you abandon him repeatedly because of me, how heartbreaking would that be for him? You’re his biological son; he raised you for over twenty years. No matter how dissatisfied he is with you, you’re still his biological son. He won’t do anything against you. I know you’re resentful about the time he threw us out of the Zhang Family’s door, but as his daughter-in-law, I’ve let it go. Why can’t you, as his biological son, let go too? He acted out of necessity; anyone in that situation wouldn’t feel good! Take my advice once and stay here, not for anything else but to fulfill my wish.”

Zhang Zhentian seemed to see through Xia Jing’s determination to leave. He understood that Xia Jing’s decision cannot be easily changed, and he knew this time they were destined to separate. His heart was filled with reluctance, but he had no choice but to stay.

...

After Xia Jing’s repeated persuasion, Zhang Zhentian was finally swayed. He agreed to stay and let his wife leave alone.

”Alright, I’ll stay here as you asked, but you must promise me that once you’re abroad, you have to live well, not go out carelessly. Be cautious crossing streets and don’t run red lights. Wait for me to come find you, don’t go off with someone else. You must understand, my staying here is for you, otherwise, I wouldn’t stay. You should know how difficult it is for me to let go of you; even though you’ve hurt my heart time and again, my heart still loves you. I will stay here and persuade our son, to make him acknowledge you; you’re his mother—how could he not? If in the future he still chooses not to recognize you, I will leave here; I’ll consider not having this son for a lifetime, but I will stay here to take care of Dad, and you can rest assured. When you leave, I will see you off and hope you take good care of yourself.” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing reluctantly.

”Zhentian, thank you—thank you for your sacrifices for me again and again, thank you for tolerating my willfulness time and again, thank you for your love for me; I will remember it forever. If he still chooses not to recognize me, I will wait for you in the United States; you know, in the United States, my brother and sister are there. I can often visit their homes!” Xia Jing said to Zhang Zhentian.

Xia Jing didn’t explicitly specify why she would visit her brother and sister’s homes nor mention what she would do there, but Zhang Zhentian understood her meaning. After all, they had been married for over ten years and understood each other’s words somewhat. He knew Xia Jing’s statement about visiting Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan’s home was not about visiting them, but rather looking for trouble with their son’s girlfriend. He couldn’t say much now; when he returned, seeing his son leaving because of his return, even if Xia Jing wouldn’t trouble Ran Zhihan in the future, he would certainly not let Ran Zhihan off easily; he was now on the same side as Xia Jing.

”Since you have already set your mind on leaving, I won’t hold you back. I just hope that in your future endeavors, you are cautious and don’t stir unnecessary trouble. I’ll shield you here, so you can handle things over there peacefully. I will now support you unconditionally because you’re my wife.”

When Xia Jing heard Zhang Zhentian’s comforting words, she couldn’t help but cry. Zhang Zhentian held Xia Jing in his arms, giving her silent comfort.

They embraced each other tenderly, determined to keep the warmth from fading away with time.

Although facing separation, Xia Jing felt immense joy as her husband finally joined her side. It was a rare opportunity; now that they were aligned, she was determined to grasp this chance and accomplish her goals. Failure was not an option—it was her command to herself!

”Rest assured, I will take good care of myself in the United States, but things here will need you to handle so it doesn’t come to light. I thank you in advance; if anything happens later, I’ll take full responsibility—you just pretend you know nothing...” Xia Jing finished and went upstairs to pack.

Zhang Zhentian understood; Xia Jing said it for his good. He hoped his son wouldn’t misunderstand him again, but how could he let his wife endure so much for him? When Zhang Yichen knew everything, Zhang Zhentian did not hesitate to stand with Xia Jing and take responsibility!

It was an inner reluctance, as well as an unforgettable journey!
