My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2077: Chapter 1910: Unwilling to Give Up

There are times when you yourself know better than anyone else, once you give up that pride, it can never return, no matter how hard you try.

”Child, you’ve really endured a lot over the years. You’ve always stayed by my grandson’s side, never leaving him. He suffered abandonment from his parents; if it weren’t for you, he might not be standing here alive in front of me today. As I reflect on those past events now, my heart is filled with pain. If I had spent a little more time with him back then, instead of focusing solely on training him to be successful, would he have suffered less? Would he be happier now? Often, I don’t even know what I was doing, watching him almost turn into someone unrecognizable. He’s always demanding and pushing himself hard, never showing weakness to anyone. He only wanted to prove to his parents that he wasn’t useless, to let them know that abandoning him was a huge loss. He paid a great deal in hardships to prove himself to his parents, leaving footprints not ordinary but marked by blood and tears. In hindsight, I realize every decision I made was wrong. If only he could live happily, why did I have to demand so much? If not for my demands, how could he have come to this point? How could his parents have been absent for so many years without returning? If it weren’t for me, how could he have been abandoned by his parents and gone all these years without their love? That left an emptiness in his heart that only you could fill. Though he says he’s forgiven his parents, there’s a part of him that still hates them. Which child wouldn’t resent their parents for abandoning them for years? Don’t be fooled by your husband’s smile every day; inside, he’s suffering most. He bears the pain of his parents’ abandonment while smiling at everyone, hiding his vulnerability because if his enemies notice his weakness, they could deliver a fatal blow. To protect the company I care about, the honor he cherishes, and his parents’ so-called dignity, every step he takes is arduous. Yet his parents still refuse to return. How should his heart handle this? Doesn’t it make him feel that all his efforts over the years were in vain?”

When Ran Zhihan heard Old Master Zhang’s words, she felt terrible. Yes, everything her grandfather said was right. She also knew how hard her husband had worked all these years, but he never mentioned it. He didn’t want her, as his wife, to see his inner fragility. Even during his loneliest moments, he stayed beside her, but she couldn’t let him know, for she needed to believe her husband was the strongest.

”Grandpa, honestly, watching my beloved husband suffer over these years, my heart too is filled with pain, yet I’m helpless. I understand how much my husband values his pride, though he doesn’t express it. What man doesn’t cherish his pride? Being his wife, I should prioritize him, considering everything for his sake. I can’t selfishly prioritize my happiness. I’ve seen through everything now. I just hope that when I’m happy, my husband is happy too. His happiness is my greatest happiness. We are inseparable now, and I will remain by his side, never leaving, as we face the world together. His domain has been established, and now I have the fruit of our love. For me, there are no regrets left in this life!”

”You are such a foolish child, how could you be so naive? Can’t you think things through from another angle? Reflect on your actions; do you truly have no regrets? You’ve sacrificed so much for your husband, and though I know he’s done much for you too, compared to his sacrifices, yours are like rivers to seas. The torment you both endured isn’t any less than each other’s. His parents caused you both pain that can’t be forgotten, as it’s harm a parent inflicts on a child. Such harm isn’t easily forgotten. I understand your deep pain, but I hope you know, when your parents return, it means they’ve truly regretted their actions. At that moment, you must forgive them and welcome them back home openly. A family needs to be together to prosper, after all, harmony brings prosperity...”

...

While they were still discussing these matters, Old Master Zhang’s phone rang. The caller was Xia Jing.

”Why are you calling me? Are you going to tell me again that you’re not willing to come back?”

”Dad, it’s not like that. I’m calling to tell you I’ve finally figured it out. I should return home, stay with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. I’ve missed my son’s growing years—I shouldn’t miss my grandson’s as well. This absence is a wound for my son and grandson. I wonder, if I say now that I want to come back, is it too late? Dad, I’ve truly come to understand this. Please, give me another chance. I won’t make reckless decisions like abandoning my family again. I now understand how important family is. Without them, even if you’re happy outside, it means nothing!”

Old Master Zhang was pleased that both his daughters-in-law came to realize these things so quickly, but he was still a bit unhappy. Why could his daughters-in-law see the truth, but his son couldn’t?

Maybe some might think living for pride and dignity isn’t the most important thing, but if you don’t even have dignity, what’s the point of all your efforts?
