My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2059: Chapter 1892: Mediocrity

No one wants to be considered ordinary, and even less would anyone want things to turn out in a way they do not desire.

The family had a joyful meal here. They never thought this day would come so early, nor did they imagine it would be so warm. For years, I believed I’d never have another chance to share a meal with my family. When this day arrived, I was stunned to believe these were truly my own family members, given all the mistakes and harms I’ve caused them repeatedly. Yet, they forgave me, allowing me to sit here with them at the same table for breakfast. This sudden happiness seemed almost unreal.

”Dad, do you know how long I’ve waited for this day? I never expected it to come so fast, and when it did, I almost couldn’t believe it was real. Even now, it feels like a dream; I’ve dreamt of this scene countless times, and now it’s happening beside me. It’s hard to believe.

I made so many mistakes that wronged this family and paid dearly for them. Even though I’ve been away for years, you know I haven’t been happy. Hearing about my experiences also pains you deeply. No matter how cruel I’ve been, no matter how much harm I’ve caused, you would never truly blame me because I am family!”

What Zhang Zhentian said was true; no matter what, his father wouldn’t blame him. As a father, how could he bear to blame his own child? He simply wants his child to live healthily, at least happily while alive. Isn’t that the greatest comfort for a father?

In fact, Old Master Zhang is the one feeling the worst within. It was his selfishness that drove his son away, causing such hardship and suffering. As a father, he must feel something internally, even if he doesn’t show it; he is a pillar of the family. In any circumstances, he has to remain calm, or else the family would have already fallen apart.

Zhang Yichen understands Old Master Zhang the best; he knows what his grandfather truly feels deep inside, even though he appears calm on the surface, his heart is tumultuous.

He understands that all his grandfather’s actions are a façade; he can’t let others easily see into his inner thoughts, or holding the family together would be unfeasible. Hasn’t many people already looked unfavorably upon their family? Yet for years, none have succeeded in breaking the family apart because of the presence of his grandfather.

No one dares to act rashly in front of [Old Master Zhang] for they know that his words are decisive, and his actions ruthless. Hence, despite dissatisfaction, no one dares show it openly, especially now that there’s a prodigious talent emerging.

”Grandpa, since Dad has returned, none of us should dwell on the past. Let’s just live joyfully day by day, that should be enough. Dwelling on past events only adds sadness; shouldn’t past details dissipate like smoke as time passes? Why hold on stubbornly to past grievances? It makes others unhappy and ourselves miserable. Aren’t we seeking collective happiness?”

”Child, you’re right. Every word of yours rings true to your grandfather’s heart because I watched you grow up and raised you with my own hands. I know your actions best, and every word of yours carries meaning I understand more than anyone else. Even if no one else in the world comprehends or supports your choices, I do because I know everything you do is for this family’s good. All you ever hoped for is your family’s happiness and joy, and you never intended any harm. Rather, you endure grievances to see your grandfather live happily!”

Do you truly think I’m unaware of what you’ve done? The company once faced hardships, yet you alone managed to overcome it without telling anyone. You didn’t want anyone stepping up for you; you wanted to prove your own strength. You wanted the company’s veterans to see that with you here, it wouldn’t collapse, wouldn’t go bankrupt despite financial challenges. You relied on personal connections to get through. Everyone sees you as the strongest person for the family’s sake, for the company, you sacrificed your desires and dreams. Grandpa knows from the start your dreams weren’t confined here, they were broader and grander. Yet, due to Grandpa and certain family reasons, you gave up your most cherished dreams!

I’ve always wanted to ask you, do you regret abandoning your dreams? Merely to prove to your parents that you’re right, you’re the strongest, so they realize abandoning you was wrong. Can you really let go of your deepest aspirations without any regret?”

Zhentian and Xia Jing were taken aback when Old Master Zhang uttered those words. They never imagined their son had dreams besides being a businessman. It was due to their actions that their son relinquished his most desired goals, his most important ideals. As parents, have they become more unworthy? Why haven’t any of their actions been right, what will it take to compensate for the grievances suffered by their child over the years, and to mend the regrets within their child’s heart?

”Grandpa, I’ve never regretted any decision I made. Whether there’s lodged regrets in my heart or not because of these choices, I won’t blame anyone; it is my choice, and I must see it through!”

As long as you’re willing, no matter how difficult the journey, I’ll stay by your side and never give up!
