My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2073: Chapter 1906: Everlasting

So many times, I even forget what kind of path I should take would actually be the best for me!

Listening to his father say something like that, Zhang Yichen’s first reaction was shock. He had never realized his parents could love him to this extent. He never expected that the parents who had always been longing for him to come home would actually choose to leave this place just so he would be willing to go back. That, to him, was a deep, deep shock!

In that moment, Zhang Yichen suddenly felt that if he still refused to acknowledge his father, what kind of hurt would that be for them? When a parent can choose to leave just because their child left, then that parent must love this child very, very much. Since that’s the case, what is there that he can’t forgive his parents for? All parents in the world are pitiful in the same way—who doesn’t love their own child?

”Dad, you should let her move back. It doesn’t matter whether I go back or not. I don’t want her to leave here because of me. That would make me feel guilty in my heart.” Zhang Yichen said to Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian was stunned. What had his own son just called him? Was there something wrong with his ears? He could hardly believe what he’d just heard. He repeatedly asked his son, ”Child, what did you just do? Did I hear wrong?”

”No, you didn’t hear wrong. I called you Dad!”

”Dad doesn’t understand. For so long you refused to acknowledge me, so why at this exact moment did you choose to recognize me? Is it because of some other reason? Or are you just joking with Dad?” Zhang Zhentian really couldn’t believe this moment would come so suddenly. This was the reunion he had dreamed of and longed for over so many years, and now it was finally happening. How could he not be emotional?

”To tell the truth, from the day you came back here, I had already prepared myself for the day I would acknowledge you again. I just didn’t expect that day would only come after so much had happened. All along I’ve hoped my parents could stay by my side—that’s something every child looks forward to. But because of what my mom did, I was truly chilled to the core. Every time I chose to forgive you, she would rack her brains and use every trick she could think of to threaten my girlfriend. That’s something I can’t tolerate. You actually don’t understand my girlfriend at all. In her heart, Zhihan has always regarded you as her future family, but in your hearts, you’ve always seen Zhihan as the culprit who ruined the peace of our family. You’ve never once tried to look at anything from her perspective. Time and time again you lashed out at her with harsh words, yet in the end she was the one telling me to forgive you. Ordinary girls can’t do that; those pampered heiresses from wealthy families can’t do that. But my plain, ordinary girlfriend did. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? So why can’t you see her goodness? Why do you have to target her like this over and over? Your targeting of her only turns into my distancing myself from you!” Zhang Yichen explained the reason why he suddenly chose to acknowledge Zhang Zhentian today.

At this moment, Zhang Zhentian didn’t even know whether he should be happy or sad. His son had finally recognized him, but his wife had already left here for the United States, planning to act against his son’s girlfriend again. If his son were to find out about this, would this hard‑won bond and trust they’d just rebuilt be shattered like that, all his efforts going up in smoke?

”Yichen, Dad wants to ask you something. Now that you’ve already acknowledged Dad, can you also reconcile with your mom? You should know your mom doesn’t have bad intentions. She just loves you too much. Maybe her love for you is too extreme, but it still comes from a mother’s love for her own son. That in itself isn’t her fault...”

”Dad, I really don’t know how to put this to you, but in my heart I’m very clear: everything she’s done does come from her love for me. But no matter what, even if it’s love for me, she can’t go this far. Threatening my girlfriend over and over, forcing her to leave me—is that really ’for my own good’? I can’t deny that she loves me in her heart, but I’m not sure whether she truly loves me. If a parent really loves their child, they would only hope to see their child happy. As long as their child can live happily every day, then nothing else matters to that parent. But why is it the exact opposite in her mind? What is it that she actually cares about?”

From his son’s words, Zhang Zhentian heard what he really meant. It seemed he still had no intention of forgiving his mother. If that was the case, then what meaning did this recognition with himself have? Wouldn’t he still end up separated from his wife by thousands of miles?

”Since you know in your heart that your mom has no bad intentions, why won’t you forgive her? Let your mom move back. Wouldn’t our family be more harmonious and happy that way? Once that happens, your mom won’t go and cause trouble for your girlfriend anymore. Why not do something so beneficial?”

It was unclear whether there was something wrong with what Zhang Zhentian said, or whether Zhang Yichen was just too sharp. Zhang Yichen kept feeling that what his dad said wasn’t that simple. He thought for a moment, then raised his voice at his father and said, ”Make yourself clear. What do you mean, once she moves back she won’t cause trouble for my girlfriend anymore? What are you implying? Does that mean if I don’t let her move back, she’ll keep going after the woman I love?”

Hearing his son question him like that, Zhang Zhentian realized he had let something slip. But what could he say now? All he could do was try to explain things for his wife. But would any explanation really help? His son had only just forgiven him, and now his wife’s actions were going to be exposed in front of his son again. What a heavy blow this would be to him, wouldn’t it only make him even more disappointed and disheartened?

”Son, listen to Dad. It’s not what you think. Your mom just went to the United States because she wants to have a good talk with your girlfriend, to persuade her to come back to you and not break up with you. That’s the purpose of her going to the United States this time. At the same time she also hopes that after she leaves, you can move back home and take care of Grandpa. Do you understand how much thought your mom has put into this?” Even Zhang Zhentian himself could hardly believe the words he was saying, let alone someone as sharp as Zhang Yichen.

”It’s not like you say it is, is it? Don’t bother trying to hide it from me. Don’t forget how well I know you. And don’t forget how outrageous what you’ve done before was. You still haven’t given up, have you? It really is ’the rivers and mountains may change, but a man’s nature never will.’ You keep making things hard for Zhihan, again and again—what exactly do you want from us? Didn’t you already come back? Why are you still doing this? Zhihan has already cut things off with me completely, and you still go looking for trouble with her. Where does that leave me? In the eyes of the world, what will they see me as? Won’t people talk about me? Say I’m a coward who can’t even protect his own girlfriend, who just lets his parents torment her over and over—is that something that sounds good to you? Why is it that whenever you do anything, you never think from my perspective for once? The reason I let you move back wasn’t because I didn’t want to forgive you, I was giving you a chance. Why do you always let those chances slip through your fingers? This time I really can’t forgive her anymore. She’s gone way too far. From now on, she doesn’t ever need to come back. If I ever find out she goes to make things difficult for my girlfriend again, then in this lifetime, I won’t have a mother like her!”

After saying this, Zhang Yichen hung up the phone in a fury!

The one thing that should remain unchanged through the ages is that most genuine heart between each other!
