My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2076: Chapter 1909: Farewell

No one wants to part, a departure is actually the most painful thing, who would willingly give up another person like this?

Old Master Zhang heard Li Haixiao say these words, and he really wanted to tell him loudly that actually, the kidney he carries was given to him by a kind person, and that person is actually his precious daughter who donated it to him! But Old Master Zhang also knows very well that he cannot do this. If he does so, then the secret of so many years would be worthlessly revealed. He can’t let such a thing happen, nor can he let it be exposed due to his momentary slip of the tongue. But he also feels that, having reached this point, if he doesn’t reveal the truth now, then for a lifetime, this truth would sink into the sea, never to be understood by anyone again, nor would anyone speak out about it. He can’t let his former business battle comrade be lost without clarity. He wants to tell him the truth, but if he does, what would the outcome be for Li Haixiao?

”Old man, why aren’t you speaking now? Could it be you know the truth about this matter? If you know, please tell me, alright? He’s my lifeline. Where does this person live? I should do my little bit to show gratitude. I am already at an advanced age, and I really want to know who it was that saved me back then. If I go through this life and don’t know who that was, I would really die with unfulfilled wishes. He gave me the chance to see my grandson come into this world with my own eyes, to watch my grandson grow happily and become outstanding. To see my descendants live happily one generation after another. It’s he who gave me this feeling. I am truly grateful to him. Old man, although we’ve fought in business for so many years, you wouldn’t want me to leave this world with regrets, right? Your visit today proves you still value me as a comrade. Even if we weren’t in harmony to begin with, and instead were at odds, we’ve become friends now...”

Old Master Zhang, hearing these words, felt deeply touched inside, yet still couldn’t bring himself to speak them out. If he reveals them, he does not know what consequences it could bring. What if because of hearing this truth, Li Haixiao suddenly leaves this world, wouldn’t he have inadvertently caused a life to be lost? He doesn’t dare take the risk of such a matter, yet can hardly bear seeing his battle comrade, begging him with eyes so full of plea. His internal struggle and pain were immense, torn between his friend and the risk of a life. What should he choose? If deciding to reveal this truth, and his friend, due to this, leaves in anger, would any of those left forgive him? Even if just an impulsive revelation.

”Old man, stop hesitating, just tell me quickly; your hesitation makes me anxious. I only want to know who saved me, could it really be that difficult? A small wish like this, you won’t even fulfill for me? Must you watch me leave here full of regret to be satisfied? If I die with unfinished business, would your heart truly be at ease while living the rest of your days? I believe not, for you’re a good person. I know each decision you make is extremely difficult, yet, can you help me just this once, please!”

It was the first time Li Haixiao ever opened up to Old Master Zhang, asking for this help. Before, he would rather die than bow to anyone, yet today, to find out who his lifesaver was, he actually bowed and asked for help. Should he disclose the truth of this happening, or must he actually let him leave with regret to feel satisfied inside?

”If I tell you this truth, you must remain calm. If because of hearing it, in a sudden moment or out of fury, you depart this world, the remaining people will absolutely not forgive me. I’m telling you this truth in spite of such risk to your life. If after learning the truth, you still decide to go, then even in the underworld, I won’t let you rest. I’ll pursue and reckon with you endlessly.”

”Alright, alright, as long as you tell me who that person is, I’ll agree to whatever you ask. I promise to quietly listen and not get stirred, okay? Just tell me who it was, and I will be extremely grateful. I only want to know who was the one to give me life back then. Please don’t worry so much; I won’t depart in anger after knowing this.”

”Alright then, actually, that person is your own daughter. Once she knew you had kidney failure, she immediately went to the hospital for a matching test. But it took a long time to get a match. She couldn’t bear seeing you waste away day by day due to kidney failure, ultimately ending up dead. Your daughter would rather give up her own, healthiest of hearts to satisfy your request to do so, father, because in her heart, she believes you are the most important person, she can’t let her father suffer any harm. Do you understand what I mean by this?”

Li Haixiao nodded, and said, ”I understand now, in fact, it wasn’t an anonymous person who saved me, but my own daughter. She gave up her own healthy heart to save me. No wonder there were months I didn’t see her, it was because of this. No wonder I got the matching so quickly; she was my own daughter, that’s why. The heavens gave me my daughter’s kidney, yet I almost ruined her lifelong happiness. How do I even face my daughter now? As a father, I didn’t understand why she did this. Now that the truth is out, how do I face my daughter and tell her that I know the truth of this matter?”

”I share this truth with you, only hoping you won’t leave this world with regrets. Even if in the past, we had many disagreements, you’re still my friend, and we’re still family. I hope you’ll consider carefully. Without a reason, why shouldn’t you take good care and live many more years? If you really depart, what good would your daughter’s gifted kidney do then?”

Everyday perseverance is merely to satisfy that deeply held pride in one’s heart unwilling to let go.
