My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1686: Chapter 1480: Disagreement

Where is the tranquility in years? It’s simply someone carrying the burden for you.

Another week has passed, marking the third week since Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing’s car accident. They were all waiting for their family members to wake up, but each time they were met with disappointment.

Xiao Wei waited here for an entire week, hoping for his sister and brother-in-law to wake up. But why does heaven seem to be playing a joke on them? These family members are anxiously waiting, yet the patients inside show no reaction. Even the medical staff find it heartbreaking, almost unable to believe there are family members this devoted, waiting here day after day, never leaving. Yet, heaven is utterly unfair to them.

Recently, many rumors spread that Old Master Zhang, Zhu Jun, has changed, reportedly being hospitalized once again by his son. However, who knows that the real reason for the severe hospitalization is not that his son caused him anger, but that his son’s hospitalization was such a severe blow that it caused his coma.

Every day when Old Master Zhang wakes from his dreams, he asks his grandson if his son and daughter-in-law have woken up. He wants to know how his son and daughter-in-law are doing, but each time his grandson and the medical staff give him a negative answer, slowly eroding his will.

Everyone felt this situation shouldn’t continue this way. They wondered why the patients, who had already passed the critical condition stage, still couldn’t wake up. Although all ventilators were removed, the two lay there quietly as if dead. Even though all vital signs were normal, there was no way for them to open their eyes.

Li Jiayuan waited a long time, an entire week, yet her husband still hadn’t returned home. She felt worried and increasingly uneasy, believing things couldn’t be this simple.

Even in the past, her husband had never been away this long, let alone this time when he was returning to China. Why, after so many days in China, hadn’t there been any news? Although they talked on the phone every night, her inner anxiety grew stronger.

She decided to return to the country to see for herself, to get to the bottom of what had happened that kept her husband from coming home for an entire week, reducing their conversations to brief calls before hanging up in a hurry. What could be so urgent?

At this moment, Lei Kai came in. He saw his mother packing up all the luggage ready to leave. Not knowing what his mother planned, he quickly asked, ”Mom, what are you doing? Why are you packing so much stuff? Are you going on a trip or planning to return to China?”

Li Jiayuan was puzzled as to why her son assumed she was returning to China without her saying anything. Did her son know something?

”Kai, tell me, do you know why your dad returned to China? Why did everyone choose to hide it from me? Tell me honestly, do you know what happened?”

”Mom, you don’t know? Brother Yichen’s parents were in a serious car accident a few weeks ago. They were planning to travel abroad but ended up in a major accident, leaving them both in a coma. Dad probably went back because of this; after all, she is his sister!”

Hearing her son’s words, Li Jiayuan finally came to her senses. So this was the reason for everything. No wonder her husband chose to return home, to China, for such a big matter, and yet he didn’t tell her about it. Perhaps he was trying to avoid alarming her.

”Why does everyone know about this, yet keep me in the dark? For what reason? You say it’s to keep me from worrying, but at least you should tell me. That’s the minimum respect I deserve, don’t you know?

I am a part of this family. All these years, I’ve never interfered with any decisions made by our family. But for something like this, you should inform me. Regardless, he and I are good friends, and since I’m practically family, I ought to see them as a common courtesy!

Why do you have to hide things from me, father and son? Do you see me as an unreasonable woman? I’m your mother, your wife, have you considered my feelings knowing the truth?”

Lei Kai didn’t expect his mom to react so strongly. He had thought earlier about whether to tell his mom but didn’t know how to begin.

He wasn’t sure of the situation and feared that if he told her, she might impulsively return to China to find his father. She knew bits about the past grievances, but he didn’t know things had gotten this serious.

”Mom, we didn’t tell you for your good. We know you’re not petty, but we just didn’t know how to break the news. I was constantly worried about whether or not to tell you beforehand, worried you might think we were hiding everything from you, making you feel bad!

But we eventually decided to keep it from you as long as possible, to spare you the anxiety and hassle of traveling back and forth.

We just didn’t expect...”

”You just didn’t expect that I would soon sense something was wrong, that I’d already know the truth, right? When you do things, don’t be too unilateral; at least respect my opinion. Even if you didn’t want me to go back, you could tell me and discuss it with me, I can understand.

But you kept ignoring my opinion again and again. Do you really regard me as part of the family? Don’t you realize that such actions could embarrass me, what if others found out how would that look?”

Don’t disappoint those who care for you, and don’t disregard their goodwill.
