My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1683: Chapter 1477: Haste

Even the fragrance of magnolia cannot hide the sorrow between us, no longer looking at whether the sun in the sky can pierce through the clouds, no longer searching, the paradise we promised each other, no longer lamenting the impermanence of the world you once spoke of.

How could Grandfather Zhang not know what his grandson meant by these words? He is also afraid, afraid that these things will end up as bad as he imagined. He is already afraid. Even though he has experienced many ups and downs, there are some things he will never understand in this lifetime.

”Yichen, the doctor said we should prepare for the worst. Do you think your mom and dad might never wake up again? Grandpa is really worried. All these years, I have owed them a lot. Though I’ve often complained about them, deep down I still hope they can stay by grandpa’s side. They are all grandpa’s children!

No parent in the world doesn’t wish for their children to stay by their side until the day they die,

but they never stayed with me, so I held a deep-seated resentment against them. I was angry at their lack of respect towards me as their father, as if I never existed in their hearts.

But today, seeing them lying there struggling to breathe, seeing them unmoving and pale, I am so heartbroken. I wish I could share some of their suffering, even if only a little so that they might be in less pain. It would be a comfort to me!

In the past, I acted too drastically for my own benefit, disregarding my son’s lifelong happiness, wanting him to marry someone from a matching family background. But I ignored his true feelings, and because of this, he had no choice but to leave home, protesting against me by living apart. But this protest lasted decades, and in those decades he never returned home, only watching us from afar, unable to come back!

Child, do you think grandpa is terrifying? Why did grandpa do such things? Now grandpa regrets it, but regret can’t change anything; things will never be the same as before. You couldn’t have guessed that initially, grandpa wanted your father to marry your aunt because I thought they were a good match. At that time, my company faced an economic crisis, a huge shortfall that couldn’t be compensated with my family wealth.

Later on, your father adamantly refused the arranged marriage. Because of that, the financial problem in my company remained unresolved. Eventually, it was your mother who sacrificed all her assets to help me turn the situation around. She bridged the financial gap for me, and for this reason, I accepted her being with your father.

Now, do you think grandpa is a profit-driven villain who never cares about his family’s feelings, only about benefits, even if it means his family has to endure hardships? Do you despise grandpa more and more?”

Zhang Yichen, although he knew from the start that his parents’ story of love and hate was not simple, never thought that all these matters were related to his grandfather; it turned out his grandfather was involved in everything.

But no matter what, as a father, he was not wrong. All he wanted was for his children to be happy and at ease, to find a well-matched wife, which wasn’t selfish.

”Grandpa, from different angles, your actions may seem selfish or not; from father’s view, what you did isn’t selfish. All you wanted was for your son to have happiness, a good wife, and a successful marriage.

Although, under this premise, you ignored what kind of girl your son truly liked and overlooked his true feelings. You pushed him persistently to follow your steps, eventually driving him away, making him escape this reality because he feared that seeing you would remind him of the decisions you forced upon him, so he had to leave to protest.

But from a business standpoint, to overcome your company’s financial crisis, you risked your son’s lifelong happiness by pairing him with someone he didn’t love, which was somewhat selfish, but not entirely wrong.

All parents wish for their children’s happiness, so your actions weren’t wrong; you used the wrong method. Your way was unacceptable to everyone, making things turn so passive.

If you had communicated with your family about these things, the outcome wouldn’t be like this. Family needs care and concern, not to be used as tools of exchange.

If you treat your family as exchangeable tools for profit, you’ll never gain their understanding!”

...

In the following days, Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing had no incidents as in the past; their vital signs remained unchanged, not worsen, as if the world turned silent, cutting off all ties with the outside world.

Old Master Zhang’s health was deteriorating; he couldn’t handle this anymore. He kept waiting for his son to wake up, hoping to apologize in person, telling his son that he truly knows he’s wrong, that he shouldn’t have treated marriage like a game from the very start.

Zhang Yichen watched his grandfather grow frail day by day, feeling heartbroken himself but finding no way to comfort him. His own heart was shattered, so how could he possibly console anyone?

I truly can’t understand, why, why won’t my son wake up? He has been asleep for over a week.

Is it really because I, as a father, am too overbearing, that he doesn’t want to see me? Rather he stays asleep in his hospital bed than wake up to face me?

Old Master Zhang really couldn’t comprehend; he could only wait in silence, waiting for a miracle so his children could wake. If that day ever comes, he’d willingly give up everything he owns; even if it takes his life in exchange, as long as his son and daughter-in-law are safe, it would be his greatest reward...

It’s just the sunlight we can never borrow between us, yet that paradise is where I loved you.
