My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1653: Chapter 1447: Request

”Since that’s the case, let’s settle on this agreement. We have a three-year promise underground. After three years, if you can truly show me a different you, then I am willing to return to your side and spend my life with you again. If by that time you are still the same as now, aimless and unchanged, then when I leave again, I hope you won’t make any excuses to stop me from leaving. As a man, you should have the courage to face the consequences. Once you make a promise, you must keep it. A promise is a promise, and the value of a promise is gold; I hope you can understand this!”

”It turns out you still don’t believe me in your heart. Actually, the fact that I can say such words this time proves that I truly want to spend the rest of my life with you sincerely. Since I’ve spoken these words, it proves that I genuinely want to change. I won’t be like the past, where my words meant nothing, changing my mind easily. I want to be a dignified man, a man who makes you look at me with fresh eyes, not someone you always despise from the bottom of your heart.

If you are willing to believe in me, just agree to this promise with me. Since you have already made this promise, then I take it as a sign that you believe in me. Since that’s the case, don’t keep doubting me repeatedly. This won’t be good for you, and my heart won’t feel good either. Why make each other so exhausted? Why not give each other a way out? Must you make me live so painfully? You have always remained in my heart, this love will never change, but I really hope you take me as the person you love the most!”

”I have to admit, you were indeed the person I loved the most in my heart originally. But because of the repeated injuries you’ve caused me, my heart has chosen not to love. Since you’ve chosen not to love me, how can you be the person I love the most? I didn’t want to say these words to hurt you, harm you, or destroy the promise we originally made. But I have to be honest, I don’t want to give you aimless hope, I don’t want to give you hope only to make you despair again. I’ve felt the pain of that, no matter what, you were once the person I loved the most in my heart. I won’t let you feel the pain I once experienced again. I hope you can truly think about what’s the best way to handle this.

I’ve already booked a ticket, and in a few days I’ll be leaving here. Before that, I hope you won’t bother me anymore. I want to rest properly, clear my thoughts, and figure out the right course of action.

I hope you remember my words. If you truly hope that one day I can return to your side, then I hope you can change these things well. The change is not just about looking different from the past, not just your outside appearance being the same as before. The most important thing is whether you can return to your father’s side and fulfill your duties as a son and as a father. If you can’t do these things, then please don’t contact me anymore. After leaving, I will change all my contact information so that in the next three years you’ll never be able to find me again. Don’t hold onto any wishful thinking; if I discover that you’ve investigated me to contact me, then I’m sorry, I will never forgive you.”

You should understand why I’m doing this. The most important thing for a person is their son and their father, yet you can abandon your son and your biological father, proving that you lack the basic integrity as a man. I hope you truly think about what you should do to bring me back to your side, instead of resorting to past underhanded means to grab me back. Even if one day I return to your side, my heart won’t be with you.”

Old Master Zhang listened to Xia Jing’s words, finally realizing that the three-year promise she made was solely for him. He knew he always hoped his biological son could return to his side and accompany him. As a father, he once humbly begged his son to return, but was coldly rejected. Today, because of one decision, his son had no choice but to return to accompany him. Though this decision was somewhat incorrect, it was, after all, meant to fulfill the simplest and smallest wish of having his son back.

”I understand. Since you’ve made such a decision, I will follow the three-year promise we made before. You can rest assured, whatever you desire, I will give you. Whatever you don’t want to see, I will change for you. I will definitely be different from before, and I hope you can wait for me. Three years later, I’ll make you willingly return to my side. I won’t use underhanded methods anymore. I will properly accompany my father and take care of our son. I want to show you how much I truly love you; for you, I’m willing to change everything.”

Xia Jing nodded, turned around, and left without looking back, leaving Zhang Zhentian to silently watch her departing figure, powerless.

He realized this time he truly couldn’t make his woman come back to his side, and he couldn’t make her stay forcefully like before, as that would only push her further away.

Though no one wanted to see this ending, it had to be accepted as fact. This was a predestined conclusion, not to be changed by anyone’s words or decisions. They’ve already chosen to walk this path, so all that’s left is to wait for three years. Perhaps after three years, things will truly be different, or maybe they will still have no chance of coming together again.

This three-year wait is merely a deadline for both of them. Maybe after three years, they’ve already forgotten each other’s existence, and the feelings in their hearts have faded away. Who would still remember the promise made three years ago and hold onto it for a lifetime?

Maybe, after three years, they can truly love each other again.

Or maybe, after three years, they will just be strangers forever.
