My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1670: Chapter 1464: Happiness or Not

When Zhang Yichen rushed to the hospital from home as quickly as he could, he found his wife curled up on the bed, trembling. He did not understand why his wife had suddenly become so timid, and he didn’t know when he could make her return to her usual self. As a husband, what had he done to make his wife become like this, yet he could only stand by, helpless, feeling truly like a failure.

Sometimes, he couldn’t help but wonder in the depths of his heart if things would have ended more perfectly if he had spent more time with her. Would he not have suffered the repeated torment from his own family, and would his wife have been able to live a normal life without this current misery?

It was never him who made the mistakes, yet it was always him who bore the consequences. He didn’t know what to do to make things completely different from before. What had he done wrong to have all the pain fall upon him? No one has ever considered how much hardship he went through alone all these years, yet he has given his all again and again, only to realize that none of it was what he truly wanted.

”How is my wife doing? Why has she become so timid today? She wasn’t like this before. She used to be very bold in everything she did. As long as she had an idea, something she wanted to do, she would go for it fearlessly, without considering the outcome. All she cared about was her way of doing things, but now, seeing her like this really makes me feel bad.”

”Actually, there is nothing majorly wrong with your wife’s temperament. This is a normal symptom. He is terrified of everyone now, fearing anyone who comes near him because he feels everyone will hurt him. Deep inside, he lacks a sense of security. All of this is the pressure he’s gradually endured over the years suddenly erupting. I don’t know what kind of pressure you all have given him while living together all these years to make him relapse like this. Seeing him like this makes me feel bad as well. After all, he is your wife. Maybe he’s missing the presence of his husband and his own parents?

You’ve been married for so many years; why haven’t you taken him to the United States to see his parents? If he could spend even a little time with his parents now and then, maybe it wouldn’t be like this. What he needs most now is the concern and love from his parents. He’s not even clear-minded, and only hearing his parents’ voices might make him a bit more lucid. Maybe then he’ll understand what he’s truly done. Perhaps you should try letting his parents come back to this place and accompany their daughter.

This is just my advice as a doctor. If you think this approach is not good, you can dismiss it. But you would better follow these measures. In clinical cases, there are many where the patient’s condition improved through repeated companionship and conversations with their parents. Perhaps that kind of result would really help you achieve a different outcome.”

Zhang Yichen was very conflicted about whether he should really seek help from his in-laws. He once solemnly promised to take good care of his wife and ensure she lives a happy and joyful life, without sorrow and tears. Yet now, as a husband, what had he done to make his wife become like this? What attitude should he adopt in pleading for his family’s forgiveness? Would his in-laws truly forgive him? After all, she is their only daughter, and because of him, she has become this shell of a person. As parents, how could they bear to see their child suffer and do nothing?

Zhang Ni happened to come back after buying a cup of water and saw his father talking to the doctor outside. He didn’t understand why his father had suddenly returned. Had something else happened to his mother? He was worried and hurried over.

”Dad, weren’t you going home to handle things? How come you’re here so soon? Have you settled everything at home, or has something else happened?”

The doctor realized the father and son wanted to talk, so he tactfully left. Zhang Yichen looked at his son, unsure what his son had been doing.

”Can you explain to me what you’ve been doing? When you told me to go home and handle things, you promised me you’d stay here and accompany your mom properly, not leaving her side. But why weren’t you here when I came? Do you know the doctor said your mom’s condition suddenly relapsed? Do you know how worried I was at that moment? Why aren’t you more dedicated as a son? If you didn’t want to stay here, just tell me upfront. Why put me on the spot, telling me to go handle things while you promised to stay? It’s dangerous! Look at your mom, now lying in bed trembling and curled up. Do you feel at ease seeing that? Doesn’t your heart ache a little? Don’t you feel any guilt?

For the first time in so many years, I’m speaking frankly. You are my son. If it weren’t absolutely necessary, I wouldn’t say anything harsh to you. But now I’m truly helpless. You also know how worried I am about your mom’s well-being. I just want her to live safely. Do you think I can truly be happy and content with her like this? It’s not too much to ask.

Son, just think of it as a father asking you. If you genuinely want to stay here and take care of your mom, stay firmly and don’t leave recklessly, okay? I know you have your own matters to attend to, but do you know your grandparents are planning to leave home again? I know you want them back; you’re missing their presence. But I’m also missing the companionship of my parents. If they leave again this time, I really don’t know when I’ll see them again. You understand how a son feels, right? It’s the same kind of care and affection you want from me and your mom!”
