Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Xu Yun and Xino went downstairs.

Led by the housekeeper, they all arrived at the dining room.

Cheng Yuelan smiled and gestured for them to sit.

The table was laden with a sumptuous feast—at least a dozen dishes.

However, these weren’t exotic delicacies, but all home-cooked dishes.

Cheng Yuelan knew that someone like Xu Yun must often eat things like abalone and king crab—luxuries to ordinary people—so she had deliberately prepared this instead.

Besides, she wasn’t a professional chef, nor had she ever specifically learned how. She couldn’t have made those complex restaurant-style signature dishes even if she’d wanted to.

Since they were eating at home, it ought to be home cooking.

This way, it seemed warmer and more sincere.

”Xu Yun,”

Cheng Yuelan said, ”This is your first time visiting, and I only know how to make these simple home-cooked dishes. I hope you don’t mind.”

”Auntie, this all looks delicious.”

”Of course it is.”

Xino laughed. ”Xu Yun, you have no idea. My mom hasn’t set foot in the kitchen for years. She made a special exception for you today. See how much she likes you?”

”You’re wrong.”

Xu Yun said, ”I think it’s the other way around. I’m just basking in your glow. It’s because your mom loves you so much, and I’m your friend, that I’m getting such a grand reception.”

”Really? Hahaha~”

Xino said happily, ”Then you’d better thank me properly later.”

”Xu Yun, you’re such a smooth-talker. No wonder my daughter likes you so much.”

His one sentence complimented two people, making both Xino and Cheng Yuelan very happy.

But Xi Wei, who came downstairs a moment later, didn’t think so.

He walked straight over, sat down next to his mom, and said pointedly, ”But this kind of man is also very popular with other women.”

”But from what I can see, President Xi isn’t a smooth-talker, yet he seems to be quite popular with women too.”

Xu Yun didn’t let him get away with it, retorting sarcastically, ”Could it be because you’re rich?”

”Yes, that’s exactly it.”

Xino chimed in with a laugh, ”All the women around my brother are only after his money.”

Xi Wei was speechless.

Cheng Yuelan shot her son a look of displeasure, signaling him not to stir up trouble on an occasion like this.

Seeing the atmosphere turn awkward, she changed the subject, asking, ”Xi Wei, where’s your father? Why isn’t he down yet?”

”Dad’s on a call.”

Just as he finished speaking, Xi Huai’an walked over and sat down at the head of the table, carrying a bottle of Maotai that looked quite aged.

”Sorry to keep you all waiting.”

Xi Huai’an smiled, placed the liquor on the table, and said to Xu Yun, ”So, Xu Yun, do you drink?”

”Just a little bit.”

”I have a bottle of 20-year-old Maotai here that I’ve been saving. Care to try some?”

”I’d love to, thank you, Uncle. I’ve never had it before.”

Xu Yun chuckled and joked, ”You know, I almost got married once. The wedding was called off because I couldn’t afford Maotai for the banquet.”

Everyone was silent.

Of course, they didn’t believe a word of it.

Xi Wei, for his part, wanted to jump up and snap, ’You fucking suck-up, could you be any more shameless just to kiss my dad’s ass?’

But in the end, he held his tongue.

’The advantage isn’t mine today!’

’No, wait. It feels like I haven’t had the upper hand once since I met Xu Yun!’

However, not wanting the atmosphere to become awkward, Xi Huai’an, as the host, played along and asked, ”Oh, is that so? Could you tell us more about it?”

”There’s not much to tell, really.”

Xu Yun smiled. ”Basically, my family was poor back then, and I wasn’t earning much money myself. My fiancée’s family looked down on me before the wedding, and we ended up breaking up.”

Everyone was speechless.

The story was getting more and more ridiculous.

Even Xi Huai’an’s eyelid couldn’t help but twitch. He had no idea how to respond, so he quickly decided to end the topic.

He said with a laugh, ”No matter. In that case, I’ll drink my fill with you today! If one bottle isn’t enough, I have another.”

”Great, thank you, Uncle.”

Xi Wei asked, ”Dad, what about me?”

”There’s a video conference for the company later. You’re taking it for me, so you shouldn’t drink.”

Xi Wei was speechless.

”Dad, I want to drink too!”

Xino chimed in from the side, ”I’ve been craving that liquor of yours for ages.”

”Young ladies shouldn’t be drinking. You’ll just get drunk. Have some juice with me instead.” Cheng Yuelan quickly shot her daughter a meaningful look.

She didn’t want Xu Yun to think her daughter was some kind of drunkard.

”Auntie, Xino can hold her liquor. You should let her have a little.”

Xu Yun came to her defense. ”I know her tolerance. She can drink half a liter without getting drunk!”

Xino laughed happily. ”Hahaha~ Mom, you didn’t know, did you? Xu Yun already knows my tolerance and that I like to drink, so you don’t have to cover for me.”

Cheng Yuelan was speechless.

Xi Huai’an said, ”You’re not drinking either. Your arm is still in a sling.”

Xino was speechless.

Soon, a housekeeper brought two small liquor glasses and placed them in front of Xi Huai’an.

Xu Yun reached for the bottle, twisted it open, and began to pour.

’How could he let an elder do something like this?’

It wasn’t that Xu Yun was afraid of anything, but that didn’t mean he was clueless about etiquette. He had to show the proper respect, or else he’d seem ill-mannered, and people might think his parents hadn’t raised him right.

This small detail left Xi Huai’an very satisfied.

He said, ”Xu Yun, your parents must be exceptional people to have raised a son like you.”

”My parents are indeed exceptional, at least in my heart.”

After pouring, Xu Yun handed one glass to Xi Huai’an and kept one for himself. Then, he raised his glass and said, ”Uncle, Auntie, my impromptu visit today was a bit sudden, and I’m sorry for any trouble I’ve caused. I’d like to toast you both first. To your health.”

”Not at all, not at all. You’re too polite.”
