This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The Municipal First Hospital Emergency Department was particularly crowded at the moment, and unusually strange.

There were simple, even somewhat shabby farmers, looking around bewildered at all the commotion around them; and people covered in dirt, whose appearance and clothes were indistinct, clutching their arms and limping, waiting blankly; and also some people dressed in mourning clothes, anxiously weaving through the crowd, busy paying fees, busy finding doctors for everyone.

”Quanzi, where is the head of my household?”

Zhang Sumei rushed into the emergency hall in a panic, and saw that most people were from her village. At this moment, she couldn’t bother to ask about others’ situations, so she quickly grabbed a familiar person to inquire about Du Ping.

”Auntie, you’re here.” The young man named Quanzi was also covered entirely in dirt, with the same condition on his hair and face, ”Uncle Ping is in the consultation room on the left. Go take a look.”

Without a word, Zhang Sumei ran directly towards the direction Quanzi pointed.

At the entrance of the consultation room, she pushed aside the crowd blocking the door, checking each person for the figure of Du Ping.

Just as she found the second consultation room and hadn’t even started to push through the crowd, Du Ping, with gauze wrapped around his face and hands, appeared in front of Zhang Sumei.

”Are you okay?” Zhang Sumei rushed to Du Ping’s side immediately, trying to grab his arm, but hesitated and stopped halfway through.

Instead, Du Ping, as if nothing had happened, cheerfully said, ”I’m fine, don’t worry, just scraped my hand and face a bit.”

Saying this, he glanced at Kang Zhirong, ”Why’d you bring Xiao Kang over? He has his own things to be busy with.”

Kang Zhirong walked over to Du Ping’s other side and examined him carefully, ”Big brother, are you really okay? Why not get an X-ray just to be safe? A fall injury isn’t something to take lightly.”

As soon as Kang Zhirong finished speaking, he immediately got Zhang Sumei’s approval, ”Yes, yes, yes, it’s safest to have a thorough check-up.

There are too many people here now, and we won’t make others pay, let’s go to another hospital and pay for the check-up ourselves.”

As she spoke, Zhang Sumei slowly reached out, lightly gripping Du Ping’s arm, looking at the bandaged area with both heartache and worry.

Du Ping slowly stepped forward, quickly making space at the door of the consultation room, and only when he was no longer blocking the way did he say, ”I’m really fine. When the tricycle tipped over, I was holding onto the rope without letting go, got pulled down with a jerk.

Didn’t fall hard, and nothing hit me, just a little scrape.”

Du Ping gently reassured Zhang Sumei, even making a relatively large movement to prove that he was indeed okay.

Just as he finished speaking, a man who hadn’t yet taken off his mourning clothes walked over, ”Du Ping, are you okay?”

Du Ping looked up at the man in front of him, promptly saying, ”I’m okay, I’m fine. How’s your brother-in-law?”

The man in the mourning clothes was filled with tension and anxiety, and upon hearing Du Ping’s question, his eyes grew even more flustered, ”Don’t know yet, still in the operating room.”

Du Ping sighed slightly, ”Don’t worry about us, go and check on your brother-in-law and the others. I saw some of them getting hit by the tricycle and coffin pretty hard, their conditions are more serious than ours.”

”There’s nothing I can do about that side, the doctors are there.” The man in mourning clothes glanced back at the hall, ”I should take care of you guys first, don’t let the crowd delay things.”

Du Ping waved it off, ”No need to worry about me, really, I’m fine. Go check on the others.”

The man in mourning clothes saw that Du Ping indeed seemed fine, nodded, said a few courteous words, and quickly went to arrange for other people to visit the consultation room.

This was when Kang Zhirong couldn’t resist asking, ”Big brother, wasn’t it just a tricycle tipping over? How did so many people get injured?”

Du Ping glanced around at everyone present, sighing as he said, ”Just the tricycle tipping over isn’t much of a problem.

But there was a coffin on the tricycle; people could watch the tricycle tip but couldn’t let the coffin fall over.

Moreover, when the tricycle tipped, everyone thought they could hold it up, and the filial sons and grandsons all ran to the side to push the tilting coffin.

In the end, neither the tricycle nor the coffin held steady, and they all fell over, crushing those pushing the side.”

Du Ping continued to sigh, ”Those holding the ropes above couldn’t let go either. If they did, the tricycle and coffin would flip over directly, taking the filial sons and grandsons on the side with them.

So everyone holding the ropes got pulled down by the tricycle and coffin, and those pushing from the side got hit by them.”

Zhang Sumei didn’t care about any of this; she was only concerned about Du Ping’s condition, ”What about you then, how did you end up like this?”

Du Ping glanced at his hand, his heart filled with bitter laughter.

Now the injury on his hand was bandaged, so others couldn’t see the damage inside, but he knew that a big chunk of the flesh and skin from his right pinky and the edge of his palm was gone.

The injury on his face wasn’t light either, anyway, the doctor said the skin on his cheek and cheekbone was gone.

But Du Ping didn’t want to worry Zhang Sumei, so he put on a relaxed smile and said, ”Didn’t I just say, I was pulling on the rope above, and when the tricycle and coffin fell together, I got yanked down, scraped a bit on the ground, just a little skin damage.”
