This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng carefully applied the band-aid. Seeing the smile at the corner of Wu Shengnan’s mouth, he instantly became upset. ”Are you crazy? Why are you so impulsive?”

”Oh, it was nothing serious.”

Du Heng sighed inwardly. Did he need to adapt not only to her late arrivals but also to the dangers her impulsivity brought? No, there was nothing to get used to. She had to transfer as soon as possible to internal work or an administrative unit. Her small frame and impulsiveness were simply not suitable for their front-line work. If he let this thoughtless woman continue like this, he might become a martyr’s family member himself.

Having made up his mind, Du Heng composed himself, planning to have a serious talk with her when they got home.

He then looked at the subdued man and asked, ”So, what did this guy do to make you act so recklessly?”

Wu Shengnan took out her phone, fiddled with it for a moment, and an image appeared on the screen. ”He’s on the wanted list. Last week, he stabbed his girlfriend’s family with a knife. We all thought he had fled to another city, but we never expected him to be loitering right under our noses. By the way, this dagger should be the weapon used in the assault.”

Du Heng glanced at the photo, then at the man on the ground, and looked at Wu Shengnan questioningly. ”Aren’t you afraid you got the wrong person?”

Wu Shengnan gave a smug little smile. ”My greatest strength is recognizing people accurately—I can remember every criminal’s distinguishing features. Besides, I just looked at this guy’s photo today. There’s no way I could be mistaken.”

By now, the distant sound of a siren could be heard. Wu Shengnan bent down to grab the man on the ground, calling to Du Heng, ”Come help me get him up.”

Du Heng felt somewhat conflicted, but seeing Wu Shengnan wasn’t seriously hurt, he decided not to say more.

As they lifted the man, his screams intensified. Once upright, the man suddenly wrenched himself free from their grasp and tried to run, his hands still cuffed behind his back.

Du Heng was a bit slow to react, but Wu Shengnan had been vigilant, her hand never leaving the chain of the handcuffs.

The moment the man tried to run, Wu Shengnan yanked him back.

The man cried out in pain again. As Wu Shengnan pulled him backward and down, he arched his back sharply, his lower abdomen thrusting forward to alleviate the pain in his wrists and arms behind him.

Seeing the man’s pained expression, Du Heng felt not a shred of pity.

Wu Shengnan jerked the handcuff chain again. Hearing the man’s agonized screams, she asked Du Heng curiously, ”Du, did you dislocate his arm?”

”Dislocated? More like I just popped it out of joint.”

”Then pop it back in. Otherwise, it’ll be awkward to explain when the team gets here.”

Du Heng pursed his lips, gently touching a blister on his own. ”It’s not easy to set it back right now. Let’s wait until the others arrive, then I’ll do it.”

”Why? Didn’t you pop it out very easily just now?” Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng, puzzled.

Du Heng felt a bit awkward. He wasn’t sure if he should explain it to Wu Shengnan.

But Du Heng didn’t have to struggle with the decision for long; soon, the sound of hurried footsteps and shouts approached from behind.

”Shengnan, are you okay?”

Wu Shengnan’s leader was the first to reach them. Instead of checking the suspect, he immediately began scanning Wu Shengnan for injuries.

Only after confirming she had no visible wounds did he finally let out a sigh of relief.

The rest unfolded according to their standard procedure. However, since Du Heng had dislocated the man’s arm, he still had to set it back.

Now that more people were present, Du Heng wasn’t worried about the man trying to escape again. So, he had the handcuffs removed, then grabbed the man’s arm and gave it a few sharp tugs and twists.

The others didn’t know if this was the proper method for bone setting, but from the man’s screams, it was clearly excruciating.

Their meal left unfinished, Du Heng went back to the detachment with Wu Shengnan. While she was busy with paperwork and other tasks, Du Heng pulled Leader Zhang aside.

”Leader Zhang, I need to ask you for a favor.”

Leader Zhang clapped Du Heng heartily on the shoulder and laughed. ”We’re all comrades here; no need for such formalities. If it’s within my power, just say the word.”

Du Heng let out a heavy sigh and looked at Leader Zhang seriously. ”I want Nannan to be transferred back to her previous internal work position.”

Leader Zhang looked surprised, and a hint of anger touched his expression. Du Heng’s request made him, the captain of the front-line team, feel quite displeased and somewhat resentful. ”Why?” he demanded.

”Leader Zhang, please don’t get angry yet. Hear me out. Before today, I neither supported nor opposed Nannan working on the front-line team. Let’s not dwell on past incidents. But based on what happened today, I strongly believe Nannan isn’t suited for front-line work. She’s too impulsive. Her actions are rash, without planning or method. This could endanger not only herself but also her comrades.”

Du Heng looked Leader Zhang earnestly in the eye, speaking with heartfelt conviction, ”Moreover, Nannan is still recovering from previous injuries. Her legs and feet might look fine on the surface, but her shinbones, foot bones, blood vessels, and meridians are still in the healing process. If she undertakes such high-intensity homework again, she could suffer a permanent disability. So, Leader Zhang, I’m shamelessly asking you to pull some strings... please transfer Nannan out of your First Brigade.”
