This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

He was still yelling, ”Kill me, kill me, and you can take the sheep away.”

Now, Liang Lin’s brothers were adamant about taking the sheep away, while Liang Lihai wouldn’t let them do it without a fight and refused to go to the hospital. Moreover, Liang Lihai’s aggressive demeanor had further angered the Liang Lin brothers. If it weren’t for Du Ping holding them back, Liang Lihai would have been beaten up again.

Wu Shengnan, excited to watch the drama, leaned over to Du Heng and asked, ”Honey, why don’t we just let them take the sheep away? We have the police station anyway. We can just make up the difference later.”

Du Heng sighed, ”How do we know what’s more and what’s less? Who can accurately price rural things? And with this kind of incident, do you think we can settle it all in court? No matter what’s said, someone will feel wronged. In the end, they’ll definitely play dirty.”

”So what do we do?”

”Call the police.”

Seeing that both sides were at a standoff, Du Heng called Gong Daoyang to explain the situation, and then made a call to the Health Clinic.

After the call, Du Heng asked the nosy women nearby, ”Where’s the village head?”

”His nephew is getting married, so he left early this morning.”

Du Heng sighed; talk about bad timing. With no other option, he called the brigade director and party secretary.

In this situation, the police station could only play a deterrent role. It was really up to the village officials to mediate. To be honest, the village cadres’ words carried more weight than those of the police or town leaders.

They were at a stalemate for over half an hour before they finally saw a police car with flashing red and blue lights arrive.

Gong Daoyang got out of the car, glanced at the scene, and was infuriated. What he hated most were neighborhood disputes like this, especially those with an aggressive nature.

It would have been simple to detain the Liang Lin brothers and end the matter, but he was sure that if he dared to take the brothers away, a crowd of women and children would be lying in front of the police station. On top of that, Liang Lihai started it all, making matters even more complicated.

Without time for reminiscing with Du Heng, Gong Daoyang went straight into the fray, yelling and scolding. With the help of two colleagues, he managed to control the situation, but Liang Lihai’s wife’s cries only grew louder.

Looking at the ambulance that followed, Du Heng gave a faint smile to Wu Shengnan, ”Alright, let’s go and sleep. This has nothing to do with us anymore.”

”Not going to watch anymore?”

”No, what’s left has nothing to do with us.”

”Alright then.”

So Du Heng and the others quietly left the scene and went home to sleep.

Once they got home, Du Heng found that Wu Shengnan wasn’t sleepy either, so they chatted about their wedding plans, hoping to discuss them in advance.

Wu Shengnan didn’t want to sleep so early, especially since she was afraid to be alone in a strange place. Now they had something to talk about, it was a perfect opportunity to dawdle around for a while.

But just as they finished talking and were about to rest, Gong Daoyang called Du Heng to come back.

”Gong, you guys haven’t sorted everything out yet?” It was very cold on the mountain at the end of April, and Du Heng, wrapped in a cotton coat, shivered as he asked Gong Daoyang.

Gong Daoyang looked miserable, taking a hard drag of his cigarette. ”I’m really fed up with these two families. The one who damaged the gate won’t pay up, and the one who did the beating won’t pay either.

Especially that Liang Lihai, his lips are trembling from the pain, but he just won’t go to the hospital. He says that if he’s to go, Liang Hehai’s father and two sons must all be arrested. This is ridiculous.”

Du Heng felt helpless too. ”Just arrest the ones who beat him up.”

”No one can convince him. Your village head, the party secretary, they’ve all said they’re willing to vouch for Liang Lihai, but he keeps insisting that all three from the Liang Hehai family must be arrested, or else he’s afraid they might take his sheep away while he’s at the hospital.”

”So, what are we supposed to do now? Why did you call me?”

”Don’t you know how to do bone setting? Have a look at him. If it’s feasible not to go to the hospital, then don’t. Just make sure the delay doesn’t leave him disabled, or else we’ll have even more trouble.”

Du Heng hesitated. ”Gong, this is putting me in a tough spot.”

Gong Daoyang blew a smoke ring. ”Aren’t you supposed to be an expert at bone setting? How am I putting you in a difficult position?”

”If the bone had just been broken, that’s when the pain is most intense; he’d actually be numb from it. Besides, the muscle swelling wouldn’t have been too severe at that time, so the bone joining could have been performed. He would just have had to endure it for a bit and get through it.”

Du Heng said while rubbing his hands, ”Now the pain has subsided. If I were to perform bone setting now without anesthesia, the pain could kill Liang Lihai.

Furthermore, the swelling has already formed at the site of the injury, which greatly increases the difficulty of bone setting. The movements for bone setting will have to be larger, and the force greater. Do you think Liang Lihai can take it?

Even if he can take it, I can’t bring myself to do it.”

Du Heng’s face also turned dark; he never expected Gong Daoyang to come up with this terrible idea.

Seeing Gong Daoyang’s silence, Du Heng continued, ”Either forcefully take Liang Lihai away or take away all three men from Liang Hehai’s family. Wouldn’t that solve it?”

”It’s easier said than done.” Gong Daoyang threw away his cigarette butt, then stomped on it hard. ”If we forcibly take Liang Lihai away and something happens during his struggle, who can bear the responsibility?

As for arresting the Liang father and sons, do you think my job is too easy or what? That’s against the rules and regulations, my brother.”

Du Heng was helpless and irritably said, ”Forget it, let everyone go home.”

Gong Daoyang rolled his eyes. ”Bullshit, that’s an irresponsible thing to say. You’re an official, after all. How can you talk like that?”

”I’m a shitty official.”

”Shitty or not, you have to think of a solution for me right now.” Gong Daoyang threw down the sentence arrogantly, then hunched his shoulders and went into the courtyard.

Helpless again, Du Heng sighed and looked back at the ambulance in front of him. He now only hoped that the new Dean of the Health Clinic would upgrade the ambulance and equip it with anesthesia drugs.

However, even if the ambulance carried them, per regulations, the doctors present likely wouldn’t dare to use them.

Du Heng entered the courtyard and found the waiting Health Clinic staff. As expected, they had not brought any anesthetic drugs with them.

Du Heng stood in the courtyard worrying as the sound of arguments kept coming from the main room. Helplessly, he took out his phone. ”Fei, I need a favor.”

Du Fei on the other end should have been asleep; his voice was a bit groggy and lazy. ”Yeah, tell me, I’m listening.”

”Help me get some medicine: monkshood 6 grams, kusnezoff monkshood 6 grams, datura seed 6 grams... After you get it, bring it to my house.”

”Did something happen at home?” Du Fei’s voice cleared up.

”Not my home. Liang Lihai’s leg was broken by someone, and now he’s stubbornly refusing to go to the hospital.”

”Oh, okay, I’ll be right there. By the way, what’s this formula for?”

”It’s an anesthesia formula for fractures, used for bone setting.” Du Heng glanced around the courtyard and said, resigned, ”Your clinic has bandages and splints; bring some for me too.”

After hanging up the phone, Du Heng wrapped himself in a cotton jacket and left the courtyard.

The main room was warm, but with the current noise and commotion, his head was really aching.

Du Fei didn’t come quickly. Du Heng felt like he was about to catch a cold before Du Fei finally appeared. However, Du Fei wasn’t intentionally dragging his feet.

He figured Liang Lihai’s house wouldn’t have a place for the decoction of medicine, so he prepared it at his clinic before coming.

”Thanks, Fei, for running all the way here.”

”It’s no problem, this is what I do.” Du Fei walked into the courtyard with Du Heng. ”So you’re planning to set the bone here at his house?”

Du Heng nodded helplessly. ”Yes, I can’t get Liang Lihai to go to the hospital no matter what, so I can only do it at his house.”

”Is it serious?”

”Both the tibiofibular bones are completely broken, and the displacement should be between five and eight millimeters.”

”Tsk, you dare to do it even with displacement? Your skill is truly high, and your courage great.”

Du Heng forced a bitter smile. If it weren’t for being pushed to this point, who would want to perform treatment at this hour.
