This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Feng Su took a deep breath. ”Doctor Du, can you arrange a single room for me?”

”Of course. Our single rooms here are designed like family maternity rooms, so staying in one is like being at home. The environment and services are all top-notch. Although the price may be a bit higher, it’s definitely worth the cost. Of course, for Ms. Feng, this can only be considered regular consumption.”

Feng Su detected the sarcasm in Du Heng’s words, but she ignored it and made her final request, ”Doctor Du, I want to be sure that if I’m hospitalized here, my personal information will be protected?”

”What do you mean by protected?”

”That my information won’t be leaked, and your doctors and nurses won’t sell my news to certain people.”

”You can rest assured on that. Regardless of who is hospitalized, a patient’s privacy will not be leaked. This is constrained not only by professional ethics but also by laws and regulations. Anyone who leaks a patient’s information will face fines, job loss, and potentially even prison time. However, I must clarify one point: if another patient in the hospital recognizes you and leaks your information, that is not the hospital’s responsibility.”

”Alright, I want to be hospitalized now.”

”Please go to the payment window on the first floor to complete the procedures. Once that’s done, we can begin treatment this afternoon.”

Feng Su’s eyes widened. ”I still have to go register? You’re the Dean; can’t you arrange it directly?”

Du Heng also widened his eyes upon hearing such an outlandish question.

What kind of big shot are you, to expect treatment without even registering?

Are you putting on airs, or just overthinking things?

Compromise is like that—once you do it the first time, there will be a second, and then countless more. The same applied to Feng Su. Her coming to Jinzhou to find Du Heng was, in itself, a compromise; returning to seek him out again was yet another.

So, Du Heng didn’t even need to insist. In less than two seconds, Feng Su dispatched her short assistant.

Then, Du Heng called over the female doctor and put her in charge of Feng Su’s initial admission procedures, repeatedly reminding her not to be talkative and not to spread news about Feng Su throughout the hospital.

After arranging everything, Du Heng didn’t return to the meeting room but went straight to his office. He had barely sat down for two minutes when Qiu Pingzhen walked in with a few sheets of paper.

Du Heng looked at the papers in Qiu Pingzhen’s hand and chuckled. ”Do we have the final results?”

”Yes.” Qiu Pingzhen also smiled. ”Dean, take a look. It’s all recorded here.” He then handed the papers to Du Heng.

As Du Heng read the mere three pages, his expression shifted continuously. ”Director Qiu, do you think this decision is too harsh or too lenient?”

”A bit lenient,” Qiu Pingzhen said, carefully observing Du Heng’s expression as he voiced his thoughts.

Du Heng nodded. ”Indeed, it is a bit lenient.”

He tapped the paper a couple of times. ”Apart from the security guard who was fired, the others either had their bonuses docked or received a token reprimand in a notice.”

Du Heng even chuckled. ”It seems Jin Juan is quite popular; surprisingly, no one present tried to hit her while she was down.”

Qiu Pingzhen gave a wry smile. ”Dean, you’re giving them too much credit. They weren’t lenient in their initial proposals; suggestions to fire or suspend her were made. But with Vice Dean Lu backing Jin Juan, it ultimately ended up as just a fine and a written reprimand.”

”Such strong backing, indeed.” Du Heng’s smile was a bit unsettling. ”No wonder she can treat her job like a game.”

Then he picked up a pen and began writing on the paper before him.

”Take this to the other vice deans and the Secretary for their signatures, and then issue the notice,” Du Heng said, handing the amended paper back to Qiu Pingzhen.

Qiu Pingzhen merely glanced at it, and his eyes widened. He looked up sharply at Du Heng. ”Dean, does Vice Dean Lu also need to sign this?”

”Of course. She’s a Vice Dean, in charge of important work like medical affairs. How could her signature be missing?”

”What if she refuses to sign?”

Du Heng tapped lightly on the desktop. ”I’ve reviewed our hospital’s monthly consumables list. The number of inpatients isn’t high, yet consumption seems a bit over budget. We need to find some time to investigate this thoroughly. We must decisively put an end to practices like fraudulent requisitioning of consumables and excessive wastage.”

Qiu Pingzhen’s heart leaped.

Medical consumables fell under Lu Guangying’s responsibilities.

”By the way, I recall that Vice Dean Lu’s spouse runs a medical equipment company, correct? I’m not sure about the company’s scale or its capabilities. When we have time, let’s pay them a visit. If the quality can be assured and their capabilities are adequate, we could consider using their products. After all, they’re one of us; it would be reassuring.”

Qiu Pingzhen nodded, gave a slight smile, and left Du Heng’s office with the paper.

He had aligned himself with Du Heng and could help get things done, but some matters and some words were not yet at the stage where he could be completely candid. As for what Du Heng had uncovered himself, that was a testament to his own abilities.

”Vice Dean Lu, this is President Du’s revised punishment. He requests your signature so the notice can be issued.” The first person Qiu Pingzhen sought out after leaving the office was Lu Guangying.

Lu Guangying looked at the revised punishments on the paper, her face flushing crimson with anger.

SLAP! She slammed her hand on the table and fumed, ”Deducting three months of my bonus and issuing a hospital-wide reprimand? Is this a joke? If this notice is posted, how am I supposed to continue working?”

Qiu Pingzhen wasn’t surprised in the least. He stated calmly, ”President Du also just assigned two more tasks. First, he’s preparing to inspect the hospital’s consumable usage in the near future. Any fraudulent claims or wastage of consumables must be thoroughly investigated.”

Lu Guangying stared sharply at Qiu Pingzhen, the anger in her eyes instantly vanishing, replaced by a flicker of panic.

She knew perfectly well what the real situation with the consumable usage was.

”And the second?”

”President Du said he plans to visit your spouse’s company when he has time. If the quality is up to par, he’s considering using consumables from your spouse’s company. After all, it’s reassuring to use products from our own people.”

Lu Guangying’s chest heaved rapidly, the expression on her face shifting unpredictably.

Qiu Pingzhen, however, smiled.

As far as he knew, Vice Dean Lu’s family now owned four houses.

And her spouse, before Lu Guangying became a Vice Dean, had worked for a subdistrict administration office.

In theory, their combined income should not have been enough to cover the down payments for four houses, plus the monthly payments.

Moreover, the car the couple currently owned, while not looking as imposing as Du Heng’s, was actually more expensive.

And this change had only occurred in the three years since Lu Guangying had become a Vice Dean.

”Please convey my thanks to President Du for his concern for my spouse.”

After speaking, she drew a ragged breath and, with a trembling hand, signed her name on the paper.

Qiu Pingzhen smiled, took the paper, and turned to leave, continuing on to find the next leader whose signature was required.

As soon as the afternoon work period began, Du Heng saw the notice posted.

He wasn’t surprised at all. He turned and entered Feng Su’s hospital room.

After a thorough examination, he reached the following conclusions:

”Hemorrhage: increasing daily. Lower abdomen: bloated and distended. Urination: frequent and urgent. Vaginal discharge: greenish-yellow mixed with black. Appetite: reduced. Tongue coating: yellow, thick, and greasy. Pulse: wiry, slippery, forceful, and rapid. Lower abdomen: tender to palpation.”

”Ms. Feng, Western medicine has diagnosed you with cervical cancer, and the biopsy supports this diagnosis. However, in traditional Chinese medicine, we don’t have the concept of ’cancer’ per se. Your condition falls under what we call damp-heat transforming into toxins and accumulating in the uterus.”

Du Heng stood at the head of Feng Su’s bed. Noticing the completely changed bed linens and quilt, he didn’t dwell on it and continued, ”What we need to do now is to forcefully attack and resolve the tumor, detoxify, and eliminate the dampness.”

”Doctor Du, I’ll do whatever you say. Just proceed with your methods.” At this point, Feng Su had completely resigned herself to his care.

”Before we begin formal treatment, there’s one thing I must state clearly. Although your condition was detected relatively early and your symptoms are comparatively mild, you must abstain from sexual intercourse throughout the treatment period and for three months thereafter.”

Du Heng enunciated each word with utmost seriousness.
