This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Upon hearing Du Heng’s words, a wave of joy washed over the three people present. They gazed at him with expectant faces, the urgency in their eyes almost palpable.

As all eyes focused on him, Du Heng slowly leaned back. ”Poor dietary habits and an irregular lifestyle are critical factors for liver failure. Plus, your liver has already sustained damage, which complicates matters further.”

He didn’t offer a solution, instead pontificating about other matters with an affected air.

Now he understood: being straightforward wouldn’t earn him any more respect, especially from people like Wu Shengnan’s brother. That type had a deep-seated sense of superiority they displayed from time to time.

He was here today to treat the brother’s illness and help the couple solve their problem, yet since walking in, he hadn’t even been offered a glass of water.

Whether this was due to their excitement, simple negligence, or just their usual habit, Du Heng decided he wouldn’t tolerate it. He’d just assume they looked down on him.

Eh, I guess I’m just petty like that.

With that thought, he crossed his legs, closed his eyes, and began to sway gently.

The three of them waited with bated breath for Du Heng to continue, but their expressions stiffened as he remained silent.

Wu Shengnan’s brother and sister-in-law exchanged puzzled glances, a sense of deflation creeping in.

Wu Shengnan was getting anxious too, and hurriedly urged, ”Hurry up and talk, why did you stop?”

Du Heng slowly opened his eyes. ”Oh, this is a bit difficult. I just performed a rescue operation this morning, so my mind is a bit slow and I can’t sort things out clearly.”

Du Heng explained slowly, though his tone lacked any sincerity.

Wu Shengnan was about to urge him again, but Du Heng continued, ”Nannan, I remember there’s water in the car, isn’t there? Could you grab it for me? I’ve been busy all morning and I’m a bit dehydrated. My brain’s not working right. Some water should help.”

Wu Shengnan shot Du Heng a glare, muttered an ”oh,” and started to get up for the water.

However, as she rose, she abruptly froze. Then, she turned to her brother and sister-in-law, who were sitting opposite, her eyes blazing with anger.

She’d been so worried about her brother’s condition that it had only just dawned on her: they hadn’t offered Du Heng a single glass of water since he’d arrived.

”I must have forgotten as well,” Wu Shengnan said quickly. ”Darling, you’ve been working hard all morning; your mind must be a bit muddled. It’s understandable that you can’t think clearly.” Wu Shengnan didn’t want to argue with her brother and sister-in-law in front of Du Heng. However, disrespecting Du Heng was tantamount to disrespecting her, and she couldn’t let him be embarrassed any longer.

Saying this, she pulled the seated Du Heng up. ”Darling, let’s go get something to eat. After lunch, you can take a nap. A little rest should do you good.”

Then she turned to her brother and sister-in-law. ”Brother, Sister-in-law, we’ll head back for now. When Du Heng figures out a solution, we’ll return.”

Then, without looking back, she pulled Du Heng toward the door.

Du Heng chuckled softly. Wu Shengnan might be impulsive, but it was still adorable that she was being impulsive for his sake. He didn’t say anything and just followed her out.

Once outside, Du Heng asked with a chuckle, ”So, not treating your brother anymore?”

”We will,” Wu Shengnan retorted, still fuming, ”but they have to apologize to you first. We can’t let them get away with this. Besides, this problem has been going on for so long, a little more waiting today won’t change much.”

Then, she took Du Heng’s arm again, her voice full of apology. ”I’m so sorry, Darling. I was careless earlier. I didn’t realize and let you be put in an awkward position.”

Du Heng laughed and grasped Wu Shengnan’s hand. ”It’s alright.”

”I know you only stayed because of me. Thank you.”

”Don’t be so formal.”

Any lingering displeasure Du Heng felt vanished at Wu Shengnan’s sweet, apologetic words.

Chatting and laughing, they reached their car. Just as they were opening the doors, a hurried shout came from behind them, ”Xiao Du, Nannan, wait!”

Turning around, they saw Wu Shengnan’s brother and his wife sprinting towards them.

Du Heng looked back at Wu Shengnan. She, in turn, stood motionless with an expressionless face. When her brother and sister-in-law ran up, panting, she calmly asked, ”Is there something else, Brother?”

Wu Shengnan’s brother looked somewhat embarrassed. He forced a smile and said, ”We were a bit thoughtless earlier, just too anxious. I hope Xiao Du won’t take offense.”

Before Du Heng could reply, Wu Shengnan answered for him, ”It’s fine. Du Heng understands how you feel. He’s not a petty person.”

Petty? You guys are practically suffocating.

When Wu Shengnan’s brother heard his sister defending Du Heng like that, he felt embarrassed and, at the same time, slightly annoyed.

But the moment his expression hardened, Wu Shengnan turned to get into the car. ”If there’s nothing else, we’re leaving. We’ll contact you when Du Heng feels better and has thought of a method.”

She glanced at Du Heng. ”Get in.” Her voice was remarkably firm.

Nudged by his wife from behind, Wu Shengnan’s brother quickly grabbed his disgruntled sister’s arm. ”Don’t rush off! It’s already noon, and you two haven’t eaten. Let’s all have a meal together.”

”No need, we’ll cook at home.” Wu Shengnan didn’t forcefully shake off her brother’s hand, but she stopped and replied stiffly.

”Cook? What are you talking about? I booked a place this morning! I was just too worked up earlier and forgot to say,” Wu Shengnan’s brother said to his sister, though he kept glancing at Du Heng out of the corner of his eye.
