This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The middle-aged man wanted to argue, but seeing the annoyed look on the section chief’s face, he wisely shut his mouth.

He understood that with this punishment, there was a high probability he wouldn’t have to deal with anything else.

Watching the section chief leave, the man decisively turned back and headed towards the old man who was watching eagerly.

The Logistics Department section chief didn’t even go to his office; he just grabbed his bag and ran to the conference room.

As soon as he pushed open the door, he paused. His movements immediately became lighter, and he carefully sat down in the furthest seat.

At this moment, everyone had arrived in the conference room, except for Jin Juan, the Director of Obstetrics Department, and Vice Dean Lu Guangying.

Du Heng looked at the time and said to Qiu Pingzhen beside him, ”Keep calling. Ask where Director Jin and Dean Lu are.”

Qiu Pingzhen nodded, immediately took out his mobile phone, and, as Du Heng directed, made another call.

Just as the call connected, a piercing ringtone sounded from the silent conference room. It rang only twice before stopping abruptly. Soon after, the conference room door was pushed open.

Du Heng narrated the morning’s events in the calmest tone.

After a cold glance around the room, he said to everyone, ”Now, let’s discuss and come up with a proposed course of action.”

Silence followed.

But Du Heng didn’t care. He leaned back in his chair with his eyes closed; no one knew if he was resting or actually asleep.

The main purpose of this meeting was to discuss the negligence of Jin Juan and her two deputy directors. The decision was to be made by a few members of the Hospital Committee.

However, the problem earlier that morning wasn’t solely with the Obstetrics Department.

When Jin Juan’s phone couldn’t be reached, calls were made to the directors of several departments, including the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Gynecology Department, and the Internal Medicine Department.

But in the end, only one director, Gao Qin, had rushed over.

This situation could be considered major or minor; it all depended on how Du Heng, the one in charge, viewed it.

If he considered it a minor issue, he could just summon the primary responsible parties for a critique and some education, and that would be the end of it.

But if he viewed it more seriously, reassignments and even job losses were possible.

Everyone understood this. However, given Du Heng’s attitude, they couldn’t figure out what he was thinking, so for a while, nobody dared to take the lead.

In the end, it was Qiu Pingzhen who broke the silence. And Qiu Pingzhen’s words essentially represented Du Heng’s stance.

Once someone started talking, everyone else stopped holding back. Following Qiu Pingzhen’s lead, they began a ’lively’ ’discussion’.

Du Heng didn’t speak; he just listened attentively. As the conversation progressed, he even felt like laughing.

In previous meetings, everyone had discussed specific work matters in a roundabout way. Today, however, when specific interests were on the line, the dozen or so people in the conference room truly descended into a chaotic free-for-all; the atmosphere was quite animated.

After almost an hour of discussion, they hadn’t reached any conclusion. On the contrary, more and more problems were being raised. Just when everyone felt that Du Heng needed to make the final decision, the conference room door was pushed open again.

One of the two female doctors from the Chinese Medicine Department carefully walked in. After anxiously looking around at everyone, she spoke as quickly as possible, ”Dean, a Patient has arrived, asking specifically to see you.”

Du Heng didn’t rush to answer the female doctor. Instead, he addressed everyone present, ”Everyone, I’m going to see a Patient. By noon, you need to come up with a proposed course of action. I will report your proposal to the Health Commission and the Municipal Bureau.”

With that, Du Heng rose from his seat and left with the female doctor.

As soon as Du Heng left, the conference room erupted into chaos again.

Qiu Pingzhen had given them a hint. They had expected Du Heng to take the matter seriously, but they hadn’t anticipated him being so thorough.

This time, their own machinations grew more fervent. What an opportunity this was!

However, Jin Juan, Lu Guangying, and the Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology were all panicking.

Du Heng didn’t care whether they were panicked or not. He was now waiting for them to present an action plan. If he was satisfied, his earlier words would remain just talk. If not, he wouldn’t mind paying a visit to those two organizations.

”What’s the Patient’s situation?” Du Heng asked the female doctor as soon as they were outside.

The female doctor seemed taken aback and unsure how to answer. ”It’s a woman. She’s wearing a hat and sunglasses so large they cover almost her entire face. Two people are with her, and they look very wealthy.”

Du Heng paused for a moment. ”She didn’t say what her illness is?”

The female doctor shook her head. ”No. As soon as she entered the consultation room, she said she was looking for you and that a friend had referred her.”

A friend? Du Heng was a bit puzzled. No one had recently mentioned recommending a Patient to him.

「In the consultation room」

Another male doctor was seeing other Patients. The female Patient the doctor had mentioned stood in a corner of the room.

She wore a large-brimmed hat and toad glasses and was accompanied by two young women. The lady certainly had flair.

”Hello, please sit,” Du Heng said, sitting opposite the male doctor and gesturing to the chair beside his own desk.

However, the woman didn’t move. After scanning the consultation room, she said to Du Heng, ”Doctor Du, could we find a quieter consultation room?”

Du Heng paused in the act of placing the pulse pillow. He turned to the woman and said, ”I’m sorry, our consultation rooms are rather limited.”

The woman adjusted her toad glasses. ”I am Qinqin’s friend.”

Du Heng looked at her strangely. It wouldn’t make a difference if you were Qinqin’s friend or my friend. Besides, who is Qinqin?

”I’m truly sorry, our facilities are limited.”

”Li Qin. Qinqin. She’s the one who recommended me.”

Li Qin?

Du Heng looked at the woman before him and realized who she was.

He was surprised. He also felt an urge to correct her pronunciation of Li Qin’s given name.

”Oh, I see. And you are?”

”My surname is Feng.”

”Ms. Feng, hello.” Du Heng put away the pulse pillow he had just placed. ”What brings you here today, Ms. Feng?”

”I believe Qinqin has already told you about my request, Doctor Du. I want to ask, are you confident you can help?”

Du Heng smiled. ”I don’t know.”

”You don’t know?”

”That’s right. I haven’t examined you yet, so I don’t know your current condition. Of course, I wouldn’t know.”

”Then...” The woman glanced around the consultation room again.

Du Heng thought for a moment. Out of respect for Li Qin, he decided to take the woman to his office.

「In the office」

The woman finally took off her hat and sunglasses, revealing her true face.

Du Heng found her face familiar. After a moment, he remembered: she was Feng Su, the famous movie star known for her ever-changing hairstyles.

No wonder she developed cervical cancer at such a young age; it must be from the toll of constantly changing her hairstyle.

However, these were just fleeting thoughts. He professionally examined Feng Su’s medical scans and performed a Check-up.

”Ms. Feng, you detected this early, so the situation isn’t too severe,” Du Heng concluded after the Check-up. ”However, the location of this tumor is quite... problematic, and your uterine adhesions are also very serious. This means the success rate for surgically removing the tumor is high, but your fertility likely cannot be guaranteed.”

Feng Su looked at Du Heng nervously. ”Then, Doctor Du, can you handle this?”

”Based on other similar disease records, it should be feasible. However, I must make it clear that the entire Treatment will take about three weeks. During this time, you must fully adhere to my plan, including diet and daily routine.”

Feng Su breathed a sigh of relief and then shared her thought, ”Doctor Du, if it’s just conservative treatment with traditional Chinese medicine and no surgery is required, could you prescribe the medicine for me to take home?”

”Ms. Feng, you may not fully understand how traditional Chinese medicine addresses this particular issue. Let me explain it to you in detail.”

Du Heng frowned slightly. He had to explain clearly, especially regarding such a presumptuous idea. If he prescribed the medicine and the Patient simply took the prescription and left, it could lead to significant problems.
