This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The old lady, understanding the bigger picture, silenced the old man with just a few words. After getting the prescription, the old man hurriedly left with the payment receipt, amidst her continued grumbling.

Most of the elderly patients waiting after them fell back into the old routine. The consultation room once again became a venue primarily for seniors, with conversations still revolving around the ’three highs’ and diabetes.

Moreover, these were all older men and women, prone to asking lengthy questions and being particularly insistent. Regardless of whether they could understand his explanations, they demanded Du Heng clearly detail what their problems were.

Du Heng was very patient, answering every question. Whether it was about their medication, daily dietary precautions, or any nourishing recipes, he explained everything in detail to the elderly.

It went on like this with thirty to forty patients, and it wasn’t until around four in the afternoon that Du Heng finally saw the last of them. Furthermore, at the earnest request of many of these elderly patients, Du Heng had to agree to open an outpatient service every Tuesday and Thursday, rain or shine, to address their ongoing health issues.

Looking at the empty consultation room, Du Heng couldn’t help but scratch his head, feeling that he was off track again. Could it be that I’m really going to turn this Maternal and Child Health Specialized Hospital into a Geriatric Hospital? Secretly imagining this, Du Heng hurried to Feng Su’s ward.

For Feng Su, today was still an adaptation period to the medicine and was quite dangerous.

”Ms. Feng, how do you feel today?”

”I feel weak all over, and my lower abdomen feels heavy and painful. After going to the bathroom, the discharge has a strong, fishy, and foul odor, and there’s a large amount.” Feng Su looked worried. ”Doctor Du, is this normal?”

Du Heng performed a pulse diagnosis, and after checking both wrists, smiled and said, ”Yes, these are all normal reactions for now. Don’t be too alarmed.”

Du Heng’s smile gave Feng Su confidence and eased her worry. However, her physical weakness made her feel an overwhelming sense of helplessness; even just exchanging these few words with Du Heng left her feeling a little short of breath.

Seeing Feng Su’s weak appearance, Du Heng took two steps back. ”Do you still have dizziness or palpitations?”

”The palpitations are gone, but I’m still very dizzy, especially after using the restroom. I feel like my whole head is spinning, making me feel nauseous and wanting to vomit.”

”Hang in there. By tomorrow, these symptoms should be much milder.”

”I hope so.” Feng Su spoke a few words, then closed her eyes.

Du Heng didn’t ask any more questions. Feng Su’s condition was within his expectations, and her physical reactions were considered normal, so he decided to leave and let her rest well.

But as he reached the door, Du Heng couldn’t help but turn back. ”Ms. Feng, our main focus now is on treating your illness, so let’s pause the makeup for now. Otherwise, it will be difficult for me to assess the progress of your condition from your facial appearance.”

The short assistant pouted. ”It’s just light makeup. Is it that serious?”

Du Heng looked at the short assistant speechlessly. She might have a serious misunderstanding of what ’light makeup’ means.

As for Feng Su’s makeup today, to put it bluntly, saying you could scrape a pound of it off her face might be an exaggeration, but Du Heng felt that 200 grams was more than plausible.

”It’s best not to wear any. You’re hospitalized, so wearing makeup is just a waste.”

”Alright, I understand, Doctor Du,” Feng Su agreed, but the short assistant seemed a little unhappy.

Du Heng guessed that applying makeup to Feng Su was very likely this short assistant’s ’masterpiece.’

”Doctor Du, wait, there’s something I need to tell you,” the tall assistant suddenly called out to Du Heng.

”What’s up?”

”Today, your nurses have been in and out several times. I feel like they might have recognized Sister Su.”

Du Heng knew what the tall assistant was going to say next, so he replied directly, ”Don’t worry about that. We’ve already instructed them; they know what they should do and say. Also, today is still considered a critical period for Ms. Feng, so it’s normal for nurses to frequently visit her room. They need to ensure the patient’s condition remains stable and is progressing positively.”

After dispelling the tall assistant’s doubts, Du Heng left.

However, just to be safe, he once again instructed the female doctor to reiterate the matter to the nurses. After all, leaking a patient’s privacy is unacceptable, both morally and legally.

「A short while later, back in his office」

Qiu Pingzhen came in with several forms. ”Dean, these are the participation lists submitted by each department, along with their proposed locations for the outreach. Do you want to make any changes?”

Du Heng didn’t look at them and pushed them back. ”No need. You handle the arrangements. The principle remains the same: mix up the personnel as much as possible so that each group has doctors from different departments. By the way, who is the team leader assigned from the Obstetrics Department?”

Qiu Pingzhen carefully checked the list, then confirmed, ”The team leaders from the Obstetrics Department are those two Deputy Directors. As for Director Jin Juan, she didn’t put her name down. Hmm, perhaps she figured she was suspended, so she didn’t submit her information.”

Du Heng laughed. ”The hospital suspended her administrative duties, not her professional ones. It seems Director Jin is still a bit upset.”

Qiu Pingzhen looked at Du Heng speechlessly. After suspending Director Jin, fining her, and withholding her bonus, it would be strange if she *wasn’t* upset, he thought. However, he wouldn’t be foolish enough to say that to Du Heng’s face, so he just nodded and prepared to leave.

But Du Heng stopped him. ”Director Qiu, don’t rush off. Sit on the sofa. I have something I’d like your opinion on.”

Qiu Pingzhen did not refuse, turning around and sitting down on the sofa. ”Dean, what is it?”

”It’s like this: do you have any good suggestions or ideas for our hospital’s development?” Du Heng also stood up, walked over, and sat opposite Qiu Pingzhen.

”Our current rural outreach program is basically a one-time deal, and the reputation of our doctors still has limited reach. And this Chinese Medicine Department I’ve established, I feel it’s veering off course, almost becoming an exclusive clinic for the elderly. That doesn’t help our hospital’s overall development. Unless we change the hospital’s designation to become a comprehensive hospital, then we might have more options. But this idea can only remain an idea, as neither the Bureau nor the Health Commission would agree.”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Qiu Pingzhen really wanted to roll his eyes. But he still considered Du Heng’s question seriously, though many notions flashed through his mind only to be dismissed as impractical.

After a good while, Qiu Pingzhen tentatively asked, ”Dean, what are your thoughts on online live-streamed medical consultations?”

”Live-streamed consultations?” Du Heng thought for a moment. ”There’s nothing specific to say; it has both pros and cons. However, speaking of online medical treatment, you might not know that the Provincial First Hospital has now connected with some hospitals in the province to form an Online Hospital where patients can receive diagnoses and treatment.

”Although not many departments are participating yet—only the Chinese Medicine Department, Gastroenterology Department, and Orthopedics Department—the inclusion of these three has allowed many patients to complete diagnoses and treatments locally, without needing a special trip to Jinzhou. The results are very good.”

The implementation of the Online Hospital at the Provincial First Hospital had been spearheaded by Du Heng himself. Now that it was showing remarkable results, he was happier than anyone.

Du Heng chuckled. ”Live diagnosis is similar in form to the Online Hospital, and I think it’s feasible. However, live diagnosis has certain disadvantages. For example, it’s not conducted in a professional hospital, and there are no professional doctors nearby to describe the patient’s condition.

”It relies entirely on the patient’s own description, with doctors on the other end listening to symptoms to make a judgment. This can involve a high degree of uncertainty and risk, and it’s basically impossible to make an on-the-spot diagnosis. Besides, even if the diagnosis is accurate, prescribing medicine is still a problem.

”The risks involved might outweigh the benefits in other aspects.”

Du Heng touched his nose. ”This reminds me, I should ask the Provincial First Hospital in the coming days if we can join the Online Hospital system.

”With the Online Hospital already established and operational, its success is practically a done deal. The sooner we join, the more benefits we’ll reap.”

Thinking of the potential benefits, Du Heng excitedly clapped his hands.

He had to admit, although he’d had the initial idea for the Online Hospital, he wouldn’t have thought to pursue it now without Qiu Pingzhen’s reminder. Indeed, listening and asking questions is always the best way to self-improvement.

Qiu Pingzhen looked at the suddenly excited Du Heng, momentarily stunned. Du Heng’s idea is good, and he’s not wrong, he thought, but that’s not the main point I was trying to make!

”Dean, live diagnosis has one advantage over the Online Hospital: its incredibly broad audience. Anyone who searches for medical-category related tags online can see our videos and live streams.

”In this respect, the Online Hospital can’t compare at all.

”Moreover, for spreading our reputation, online educational live streams are far more effective than the Online Hospital could ever be.”

Qiu Pingzhen listed the advantages of internet live streaming, hoping to pull Du Heng back from his enthusiasm for the Online Hospital system.

However, Du Heng was clearly already captivated by the benefits of the Online Hospital system and didn’t really see the necessity for live streaming.

He waved his hand dismissively. ”Let’s put the live streaming idea on hold for now. You can do some detailed research on it, and we’ll discuss it later. How does that sound? As for me, I’ll focus on the Online Hospital initiative for now.

”If we can’t compete with the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital and the JZU Children’s Hospital here in Jinzhou, then we’ll look for opportunities across the entire province and expand outward. That should be achievable.”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Qiu Pingzhen could only smile bitterly and accept the task.

”Alright Dean, I’ll get back to my work then. I’ll report back if I come up with any good ideas.”

Du Heng nodded. ”Okay, let’s leave it at that for now.”

Just as Qiu Pingzhen was about to leave, Du Heng suddenly stopped him again. ”By the way, Qiu, don’t schedule me for any shifts during the May Day holiday. I have some things I need to take care of.”

Qiu Pingzhen was now truly speechless. He makes others work through the May Day holiday, sending them to the countryside for ’charity’ activities, while he brazenly gives himself a vacation, and without even covering any shifts!

”Dean, isn’t that a bit inappropriate? After all, no one else is getting a holiday this time. If the others find out you’re not working any shifts, they might have some objections.”

”If they have opinions, they can come talk to me.” Du Heng’s tone was firm. He was about to continue in this vein, but then his eyes twinkled. ”Actually, how about this: assign my shifts to Deputy Dean Lu. Let her cover for me.”

Qiu Pingzhen was dumbfounded.

Du Heng was latching onto one person and planning to exploit her for all she was worth.
