This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Curing someone once could be considered a coincidence. Curing them twice could be chalked up to encountering similar conditions by chance. Curing them three times could also be attributed to luck. But curing four times in a row—that demanded serious attention.

These continuous successful cases indicated to him that this house, it could be said, regarding heart matters, was already a mature and reliable prescription; this was of vastly different significance to their Cardiology Department.

Among all departments in the hospital, while they wouldn’t dare compare themselves to the Emergency Department, their Cardiology Department definitely ranked in the top two in terms of danger. One second, a patient could be laughing and joking around with you like old friends; the next, perhaps while you’ve just stepped away to the toilet, they could be fighting for their life as their fragile heart started to go on strike.

Driven by the desire to witness things for themselves, Director Li and Director Zhang did not leave.

Meanwhile, the patient awaited the decoction medicine. Perhaps it was due to the man’s decent physical constitution, or the effective emergency measures used by Zhou Yixian and his team. Or maybe the mother and son praying fervently outside had moved the Lord in Heaven. In any case, the patient was obliging enough not to have any particularly critical episodes. However, while he was somewhat obliging, his heartbeat still occasionally jumped to around 240 bpm.

Twenty minutes later, the eagerly awaited decoction medicine was finally delivered, and everyone present wore an anxious expression.

Du Heng wasted no time. Taking the decoction medicine, he quickly administered it to the patient.

After thirty seconds, the patient showed no reaction. He was still sweating, his face contorted in pain, and his heart rate continued to spike suddenly.

After one minute, there was no change at all. After five minutes, there was still no change.

SIGH.

It seems the house is useless, Du Heng isn’t as miraculous as the rumors claimed, and his house hasn’t performed another miracle.

Directors Zhang and Li exchanged regretful glances; they wanted to leave.

However, Zhou Yixian and Du Heng showed no signs of dejection at this moment; instead, a hint of relief appeared on their faces. This was because they had experience. They knew that the effects of this decoction medicine were not as instant as Western medicine, which could take effect in mere seconds or minutes. However, they also knew that this decoction medicine would take effect within ten minutes.

Moreover, the two of them had noticed something that Director Zhang and Director Li had overlooked. Although the patient showed no significant outward changes during these five minutes and his heart rate would still occasionally spike, they noted something crucial: within that five-minute window, the patient’s heart rate had spiked suddenly only once. Moreover, it had only reached a peak of 183 bpm, lasted for a mere four seconds, and then gradually returned to normal on its own.

Director Zhang and Director Li dawdled for another two minutes, then exchanged glances, preparing to bid farewell and depart.

Just as they were about to speak, Zhou Yixian spoke first, his tone remarkably relaxed, ”President Du, you’ve saved another family.”

Du Heng smiled humbly. ”Director Zhou, you’re too kind.”

Hearing their conversation, Director Zhang and Director Li, standing nearby, were momentarily stunned. Did we miss some crucial information?

At this thought, they quickly turned their gaze to the patient.

At first glance, the patient seemed unchanged. But upon closer inspection, and comparing his state to twenty minutes prior, they discovered that his sweating had significantly diminished. Although he still felt damp all over, the large beads of sweat had stopped forming. The patient’s previously pained expression had also gradually softened and relaxed.

Did it work?

It worked!!!

Zhou Yixian, feeling a wave of relief, smiled and asked, ”President Du, this is...?”

”Ah, I almost forgot to introduce you. This is Director Qiu Pingzhen from the Medical Affairs Office of our Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital.” Du Heng then chuckled. ”Director Qiu, let me introduce you. This is Director Zhou from the Municipal First Hospital Emergency Department. There’s no need to introduce Director Li, as you heard his name earlier. And this is Director...?”

”Zhang Guangming, Cardiology Department.”

After the introductions, Zhou Yixian asked Du Heng in surprise, ”President Du, how did you and Director Qiu come to be together? Are you collaborating on something?”

”No, I’ve been transferred to the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital as Dean now.”

”What?”

Zhou Yixian, Director Li, and Director Zhang were rather stunned. Wasn’t Du Heng the Dean of the Health Clinic just half a month ago? How had he suddenly become the Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital?

In other words, half a month ago, Du Heng was their subordinate. Yet now, in the blink of an eye, Du Heng was on par with their Vice Deans, while they had effectively become his subordinates.

Others became deans of Level II hospitals by the age of thirty, yet here they were, already in their forties and fifties. Though they were department directors in the eyes of others, compared to Du Heng... A sigh seemed to escape them.

This sudden shift in status left Directors Zhang and Li feeling agitated and also caught them off guard; they had just been about to ask Du Heng about the prescription. Now that he had suddenly become their superior, they didn’t know how to bring it up.

Zhou Yixian was somewhat surprised, yet it wasn’t entirely unexpected. He knew that with Du Heng’s capabilities, he would sooner or later be transferred to a higher-level hospital. It had just happened a little sooner than anticipated.

”Congratulations on your promotion, President Du! Come, you and Director Qiu, please come to my office and have a seat. Tonight, I’ll host a dinner to celebrate President Du’s promotion,” Zhou Yixian said invitingly.

But Du Heng immediately declined. ”I’m sorry, Director Zhou, but I have an urgent matter at my hospital. Let’s make it another day. I’ll briefly explain the patient’s follow-up medication, and then I have to go.”

”Then at least sit for a while before you go,” Zhou Yixian urged again.

However, Du Heng still refused. ”Next time. Once things at my hospital settle down, I’ll host and invite all you directors.”

After some polite back-and-forth, Du Heng began to outline the patient’s follow-up care. ”Two doses within twelve hours. After that period, if the patient’s heartbeat returns to normal, reduce the aconite to thirty grams, with one dose to be taken in three separate administrations. If the patient’s heartbeat doesn’t return to a normal level, call me.”

With that said, Du Heng swiftly left with Qiu Pingzhen.

Zhou Yixian escorted them to the hospital gate. Looking at Du Heng’s flashy car and considering his current status, Zhou Yixian suddenly recalled a line of poetry he had seen online.

When young, one rides in bright clothes and spirited horses, knowing to cherish the prime years and the journey ahead.

As they drove away from Municipal First Hospital, Qiu Pingzhen couldn’t hold back his question. ”President Du, may I ask a bold question? We don’t really have any urgent matters at our hospital, do we? Why didn’t you stay and network with Director Zhou and the others? Moreover, I can see you have a good relationship with Director Zhou Yixian, so why did you refuse his invitation?”

Du Heng laughed. ”I really can’t tonight. I’m going to my girlfriend’s house to discuss something.”

Looking at Du Heng’s smile, Qiu Pingzhen asked thoughtfully, ”Meeting her parents to discuss marriage?”

Du Heng chuckled. Although he didn’t say anything explicitly, his meaning was clear.

Qiu Pingzhen, being a perceptive man, saw Du Heng’s smile and said with a laugh, ”In that case, President Du, you don’t need to go back to the hospital. Just find a place to drop me off, and you should hurry and get ready. Meeting parents is a big deal, and discussing marriage is an even bigger one. You can’t afford to be careless.”

”Let me take you back to the hospital first.”

”No need, just drop me off anywhere. I’ll take a taxi back.”

Du Heng didn’t stand on ceremony and said with a smile, ”Thank you, Director Qiu. Then I’ll have to trouble you to make your own way back.”

”Not at all, President Du. I wish you all the best and hope everything goes smoothly.”
