This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”It hurts, especially during my period. It feels like something is pulling downward and causing pain.”

Gao Qin asked no more questions. She had a basic assessment in her mind, but without any imaging to assist, she didn’t dare make a definitive diagnosis. ”Your situation is hard to describe right now,” she said, ”but I suggest you go to the Hospital for a check-up immediately.”

The woman’s expression clearly showed panic. She quickly asked, ”doctor, just tell me, what’s wrong with me?”

Gao Qin hesitated for a moment but eventually decided to tell the truth. She feared that if she wasn’t clear enough, this woman would delay seeking treatment further.

”Currently, your situation points to two likely outcomes. The first could be a disease like cervical polyps or cervicitis; if it’s this, treatment is relatively simple. The most worrisome is the second possibility.”

Gao Qin said, glancing at the woman, ”The second is cervical cancer.”

Cancer?!!!

The woman’s face turned deathly pale instantly.

Nothing associated with cancer was ever good news.

In her mind, anything involving cancer was an incurable disease, a fatal one.

Gao Qin looked at the pale-faced woman and said, ”Don’t delay any longer. You’ve already put it off for a very long time. Go home immediately, discuss it with your husband, and go to the Hospital for a check-up.”

After saying that, Gao Qin left the room and headed to her own.

Meanwhile, right at the entrance of the Village Committee, Du Heng and Qiu Pingzhen were stopping the women who had just finished their medical consultations.

”Elder Sister, have you finished seeing the doctor?” Qiu Pingzhen, still having some of the city person’s reserve, was a bit awkward and couldn’t be as direct. However, such scenes were already commonplace for Du Heng.

The woman they stopped was the one who had just received a cold reception from Gao Qin. While she didn’t dare show her displeasure to doctor Gao Qin, her expression soured upon seeing these two unfamiliar men. ”Who are you, and what do you want?”

”Ah, Elder Sister, hello,” Du Heng said with a smile. ”We’re from the same Hospital as the doctor inside. But since we’re men, it’s not quite appropriate for us to go in. We’re just conducting a small survey out here and would like to ask you a few questions.”

”You’re Doctors too?” The woman eyed the two men suspiciously.

”Of course. This is our Hospital’s Dean. He’s here to see if everyone has any needs and also to check on how our Doctors are performing.”

”The Dean, you say.” The woman’s gaze changed instantly. No longer cautious, she became aggressive. ”Since you’re the Dean, you should manage your Doctors properly!”

”Please, Elder Sister, take your time. Did our Doctor not attend to you?”

”She did, but with such a sour face, always giving people attitude.”

Du Heng and Qiu Pingzhen exchanged glances. They had heard this complaint from several people already. If they guessed correctly, it had to be Director Gao Qin again.

”Elder Sister, which doctor attended to you?”

”I don’t know her name. She’s a bit chubby, not very tall, and looks older. She dismissed me after just a few words.”

The woman rolled her eyes. ”If she didn’t want to come, she shouldn’t have! Is she trying to fool us Rural People?”

Du Heng understood immediately but made no comment. Instead, he asked the woman directly, ”Elder Sister, did our doctor tell you what the problem was?”

The woman launched into another tirade, the gist being that Gao Qin’s consultation was too brief, that she hadn’t examined her properly, looked down on her, and was just trying to fool her.

After listening to the woman, Du Heng glanced at the prescription in her hand and promised to address the matter. He then let the disgruntled woman leave.

Qiu Pingzhen asked worriedly, ”Dean, should we speak to Director Gao and ask her to improve her attitude?”

Unexpectedly, Du Heng’s response was beyond his expectations. ”Why should we say anything? What is there to say?”

”About Director Gao’s attitude toward the Villagers?”

”What’s wrong with Director Gao’s attitude? She’s a Doctor, here to treat patients. If she diagnoses the illness clearly and prescribes the correct medicine, her job is done. Why do you care whether her attitude is good or not?”

Du Heng looked at the Village Committee gate and smiled. ”Besides, we brought Director Gao up to this mountain ridge for over a week. Isn’t it understandable for her to be a bit emotional?”

Hearing Du Heng’s words, Qiu Pingzhen also smiled. He had been most afraid that Du Heng would still be as domineering as he was during that meeting, unwilling to consider other perspectives.

Just as Qiu Pingzhen composed himself to speak, he saw a crying woman walk out. Du Heng immediately went up to her. Seeing Du Heng already making inquiries, Qiu Pingzhen could only keep quiet and follow him again.

The introduction and speech were the same, but this woman’s demeanor was different; she was simply frightened and worried now.

After listening, Du Heng didn’t try to show off or undermine Gao Qin. Instead, right in front of the woman, he directly called the Hospital and arranged for her to go straight for a check-up upon arrival.

The woman thanked Du Heng, but the worry on her face didn’t lessen in the slightest.

Qiu Pingzhen watched the woman walk away, puzzled. ”Dean, your medical skills are so excellent. Why didn’t you offer a diagnosis for this woman?”

”Director Gao’s diagnosis is correct. Why should I perform an unnecessary action? Besides, you don’t work on the front lines, so you might not understand a Patient’s mindset. When they hear the word ’cancer,’ they need tangible, visible proof—something they can see with their own eyes—to dispel their doubts. They won’t just believe anything I say here.”

Qiu Pingzhen gave Du Heng another surprised look. ”So, do we go in now, or wait here a bit longer?”

Du Heng glanced at the people queuing in the yard. ”Let’s go in and have a chat with Director Gao.”

Meanwhile, Gao Qin had just finished examining another Villager and was writing out a prescription according to procedure. ”You have some minor inflammation; it’s not a big deal. And at your age, it’s normal for your menstrual flow to gradually decrease. No need to worry unnecessarily. I’ll prescribe some medicine for you. You can just get it from your village.”

Her words were matter-of-fact, but her expression was extremely disgruntled. Du Heng, standing in the doorway, couldn’t help but feel an urge to laugh.

This Gao Qin, Du Heng thought, although her attitude really isn’t great, her skills are genuinely top-notch. No wonder she’s the Director of the Gynecology Department and can run her own clinic.

”Next.”

”Director Gao, the Dean has come to see you all.”

Gao Qin looked up in surprise, but her expression remained cold. It didn’t soften just because Du Heng had arrived.

Du Heng wasn’t surprised. With Gao Qin’s capabilities, if she hadn’t been so brazen and lax during work hours, giving me leverage over her, there’d be no way to keep someone like her in check. Her giving a cold shoulder now is only to be expected.

”Director Gao, you must have been exhausted these past few days, right?”

”Thank you for your concern, Dean. I haven’t collapsed yet, and all my limbs are still functional.”

Du Heng chuckled. ”Director Gao, it’s been a week. What are the results?”

”We’ve been stationed in four villages, consulted with over 450 people, and admitted over 50 patients to the Gynecology Department, over 10 to the Pediatrics Department, and over 10 to the Internal Medicine Department. Today’s numbers haven’t been tallied yet.” Gao Qin was not in a good mood, but her work was indeed meticulous.

”Director Gao, you’ve worked hard. Once you’re done with this village, take your team back to the Hospital,” Du Heng said suddenly after listening.

Gao Qin looked at Du Heng in surprise, thinking she must have misheard. ”Back to the Hospital?”

”Yes, back to the Hospital. The Department has more Patients now, and I’m not at ease without Director Gao there to oversee things.”

”Oh.” Gao Qin was momentarily stunned, but then a hint of smugness arose in her heart. See? Without me, you can’t manage, can you?

”Well then, Doctor Gao, I won’t disturb you any longer.”

After speaking, Du Heng and Qiu Pingzhen left the small room, leaving Gao Qin still reveling in her sense of triumph.

Qiu Pingzhen followed, looking at Du Heng’s back, and sighed.

Such brilliant tactics! Qiu Pingzhen thought. First, the merciless banishment, driving everyone out. And today, a few flattering words to give them a way to step down gracefully.

Observing the change in Gao Qin’s expression over those brief two minutes, it was clear Du Heng’s objective had been achieved. Relations had eased, and the previous hostility towards him had vanished with just a few words and a single decision.
