This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Hearing Wu Buwei’s hesitant voice, a thought struck Du Heng, and he asked directly, ”What’s the matter? With our relationship, there’s no need for you to beat around the bush like this, is there?”

Wu Buwei on the other end of the line took a deep breath and replied slowly, ”You know, brother, after I finished my professional practice exam last year, I should have left. But because you were at the Health Clinic, I stayed.”

”Now that you’re gone, there’s not much point in me staying, so...”

”You’re going to the Second Hospital?”

”Sorry, brother. I promised my dad.”

Although Du Heng felt a bit uneasy, he still smiled and said, ”There’s nothing to be sorry about. I’ve already felt quite guilty for keeping you in that remote place for a year. When there’s a good opportunity, you should seize it.”

”Thank you, brother. But now that I’m leaving, I probably won’t be able to provide you with the data you need.”

”Hey! You’re underestimating your brother!” Du Heng chuckled. ”Don’t forget, the Chinese Medicine Department at Provincial First Hospital now has a partnership with the Health Clinic, and they have the patients I need there too. Plus, I’m still the externally employed Deputy Director at Provincial First. Getting the data I need is even easier than going through you.”

”Thanks, brother. Before I leave, I’ll try to collect as much data as possible.”

”I should be the one thanking you. It’s been almost a month since we last saw each other. Let me treat you to dinner tonight.”

After hanging up the phone, the computer screen in front of Du Heng dimmed slightly, and his mood also darkened a bit.

The Health Clinic... who knows how it will turn out.

At this point, Du Heng didn’t feel like continuing to write, so he stood up, closed the laptop, and headed straight to the living room.

Wu Shengnan was happily eating the breakfast Du Heng had prepared, humming an indistinct tune while eating. Upon seeing Du Heng, she cheerfully said, ”Du, you made so much! Come eat some, too.”

Du Heng immediately sat down across from Wu Shengnan. Looking her straight in the eyes, he said, ”Let’s talk.”

Wu Shengnan continued to happily set the table for Du Heng and said casually, ”About what?”

”About your job.”

”What happened to my job?” Wu Shengnan paused in her actions, a hint of surprise in her expression.

Du Heng didn’t want to waste any more time and got straight to the point, ”I told you before you went to work that for the time being, your leg and foot aren’t able to handle high-intensity work. In fact, you won’t be able to handle it for at least another year.

Don’t think I’m trying to scare you. Look at your leg and foot now. You’ve only worked for a week, and they’re already so swollen you can’t even wear shoes. Plus, there are purple marks and dark bluish-black bruises on your leg and foot. If you keep ignoring my advice, you’d better be prepared for amputation.”

”Didn’t I recover already?” Wu Shengnan glanced at her foot, thinking Du Heng might be lying to her.

Du Heng shook his head slightly, ”I’ve been telling you from the beginning that you are still in recovery. You’re not a superhero with extraordinary healing abilities, and I’m not a god who can make someone who was facing amputation completely normal again in just over a month.”

The expression in Wu Shengnan’s eyes wavered, ”So, what’s your plan?”

”Change jobs or just rest at home.” Du Heng directly stated his thoughts.

”But...”

”There’s no ’but’.” Du Heng was very firm. ”My plan is this: while you’re resting at home, we’ll take the opportunity to get married. Then we can have a baby. Once the baby is old enough for preschool, if you still want to be on the front-line team, I won’t stop you.”

Getting married?

When the word came out of Du Heng’s mouth and entered Wu Shengnan’s ears, her head began buzzing. As soon as she heard the word ’baby,’ she became completely dumbfounded.

Not only was she dumbfounded, but she also became a bit shy, ”Isn’t it too soon to get married? You haven’t even proposed yet.”

Upon hearing Wu Shengnan say this, Du Heng knew that she was probably going to agree, and he felt relieved.

”Too soon? I don’t think so. We’ve known each other for a year. The first time I met you, I thought you were a very arrogant little princess, and my impression wasn’t too good.”

Wu Shengnan immediately thought of the look on Du Heng’s face when she first met him at her grandfather’s house. At that time, she had doubted that Du Heng and his companion had ulterior motives and had not treated him well.

Du Heng continued with a smile, ”The second time we met, you made a fool out of me, and I was so angry that I wanted to beat you up. You even threatened me to treat the people in your team, and I thought you were very domineering and had a terrible spoiled young lady’s temper.”

Recalling how Du Heng had passed out after just one drink back then, yet still pulled her up to sing and dance, Wu Shengnan couldn’t help but laugh. She truly hadn’t expected that the usually composed Du Heng couldn’t handle his liquor and would get so boisterous when drunk.

Du Heng felt a bit embarrassed but continued, ”The third time we met, as you know, you brought me earth-shattering news...”

Du Heng recounted the story of how they met and the transformation of his feelings towards Wu Shengnan. There were no sweet nothings, just simple statements.

”I know that talking about getting married now may seem a bit hasty, and it might make me seem insincere. But you’re young, beautiful, come from a good family, you can cook and do housework, and you don’t have any of those pretentious airs. If I don’t take advantage of your current ’blindness’ to quickly make you mine, I’m afraid something unexpected might happen!”
