This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After greeting everyone, Du Heng found Liang Lihai and handed him the medicine. ”Brother Lihai, drink this.”

Liang Lihai was a bit dazed. ”What’s it for?”

Du Heng said impatiently, ”It’s for your bone setting.”

”Then just set it. Why do I need to drink medicine?”

”This is for anesthesia and pain relief. If I just set your bone dry like this, it’ll hurt like hell,” Du Heng huffed. ”No more nonsense. Hurry up and drink it. The longer we wait, the harder it’ll be to fix your leg.”

Liang Lihai looked at Du Heng, then took the cup and drank it down. ”Alright, let’s do it.”

”Don’t be so reckless. Let the medicine take effect first.”

”Oh.”

Everyone then turned to look at Liang Lihai. A minute later, he said, ”Why is my head feeling a bit dizzy?”

”It’s the anesthesia; you’re supposed to feel dizzy. Don’t worry, it’ll pass soon.”

Three minutes later, Liang Lihai said, ”Why are my eyelids so heavy? I want to sleep.”

”Sleep then. It’s anesthesia; if you don’t sleep, how would it work?”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Liang Lihai closed his eyes and fell asleep.

After waiting another two minutes and hearing Liang Lihai snore, Du Heng said to Du Fei, ”Fei, come lend a hand. I can’t do this by myself.”

With that, the two of them took off their shoes and got onto the bed. Du Heng first pressed the broken leg lightly. Seeing no change in Liang Lihai’s expression, he confidently began to feel the area of the fracture, examining it again to ensure he knew exactly what he was dealing with.

”Fei, grab his ankle and pull down hard. As you pull, rotate it inward fifteen degrees.”

Du Heng instructed Du Fei to slowly pull and twist the broken leg, while his own hands continuously pressed and palpated the fracture site.

Fortunately, the cross-sections of the tibiofibular bone were relatively clean, with only two small, scattered fragments. Du Heng quickly pushed the fragments back into place.

Ten minutes later, Du Heng and Du Fei finally stopped, both of them already drenched in sweat.

Catching his breath for a moment, Du Heng bent down again to apply the splint. After struggling with it for a good while longer, he finally finished.

Taking one last look at his handiwork, Du Heng contentedly got off the bed. ”Alright everyone, you can continue your discussion now.”

Gong Daoyang was rather stunned. He looked at the others, who wore similar expressions, then unconsciously pointed to the snoring Liang Lihai and asked, ”Is he... all fixed?”

”He’s fine. As long as he follows my instructions, I guarantee there won’t be any problems in the future.”

Gong Daoyang licked his lips. ”So, when will he wake up?”

”Tomorrow morning, probably,” Du Heng said with a smile. ”However, if you’re in a hurry, the anesthesia should wear off around 3 AM. You can wake him then. But he might be a bit groggy at that time, so if you need to tell him something, speak slowly and repeat it a few times.”

Gong Daoyang looked at Du Heng speechlessly, then turned his gaze to the others. ”What should we do, everyone? Come back tomorrow morning to mediate, or just wait here?”

”Wait for what? Let’s come back tomorrow morning,” the brigade director huffed. He glanced at Liang Hehai and his two sons, then at the snoring Liang Lihai on the bed. ”Director Gong, we’ll trouble you to come again tomorrow morning. We’ll resolve this matter then.”

Gong Daoyang nodded. ”Alright, 10 AM tomorrow then.”

He then turned to ask Liang Hehai. Liang Hehai and his two sons also nodded in agreement. Afterward, the three of them prepared to leave.

Unexpectedly, Gong Daoyang reached out and grabbed Liang Lin, saying with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, ”Your father and brother can go. You can’t.”

Liang Lin panicked. ”Why not?”

”Why not? You broke someone’s leg. That’s suspected intentional injury, you tell me why!” As Gong Daoyang spoke, his two colleagues came forward, one on each side, and grabbed Liang Lin’s arms.

At this point, Gong Daoyang released his grip. ”Liang Hehai, we’ll discuss your family’s compensation tomorrow at 10 AM. You should go home tonight and think carefully about whether you want to lower your compensation demand. If you insist on 100,000 yuan, Liang Lihai won’t budge, and it won’t be easy for your son to be released.”

Liang Hehai immediately shot back, ”100,000 yuan is already the lowest! The back wall of our house has cracked open; it needs to be demolished and rebuilt!”

Gong Daoyang frowned and waved his hand dismissively. ”Enough with the circular arguments. I’ve told you everything that needs to be said. This is your responsibility, and you can’t escape it. Think it over. We’ll expect your decision at 10 AM tomorrow.”

With that, he took Liang Lin and walked out, without a moment’s hesitation.

Du Heng didn’t want to get any more involved in this matter, so he followed Gong Daoyang out. After seeing Liang Lin put into the car, Du Heng quietly asked Gong Daoyang, ”Can this be resolved tomorrow?”

Gong Daoyang paused for a moment, then sighed. ”It’s difficult. Liang Hehai is dead set on not giving in, and Liang Lihai is only willing to pay 3,000 yuan for the gate repairs, while demanding 50,000 yuan in compensation from Liang Hehai. You tell me, can this be resolved?”

Most village affairs were like this. Someone might initially be in the right, but due to ignorance of the law, issues of pride, and other factors, they would end up losing their ground.

So, after understanding the situation, Du Heng decided not to get involved further. He bid farewell to Gong Daoyang and Du Fei and quickly headed home.

He slept soundly until broad daylight, then got up to check on Du Yi’s schoolwork.

However, he didn’t know that at that very moment, Liang Lihai’s house was once again bustling with activity.
