This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

It had been three weeks since she last contacted me. Li Qin’s friend must have consulted numerous other experts during that time. Now she’s reaching out again, which clearly means she didn’t achieve the desired outcome. Cervical cancer, an awkwardly located tumor, and the desire to preserve fertility... Not everyone is capable of handling such a case. But judging by her attitude, Li Qin’s friend doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry. Since you’re not rushing, there’s no need for me to rush either.

After hanging up the phone, Du Heng put the matter aside and continued to work on his special event for the elderly.

「On the third day,」Du Heng handed over the task of seeing patients to the only other male doctor in the Chinese Medicine Department. He then went with Qiu Pingzhen to the designated location for their community support activity.

Gao Qin was very unhappy. Looking at the queue of rural women outside the door, her heart felt like it was bleeding. She didn’t know if Du Heng had done it on purpose, but he hadn’t approved a single one of the urban residential areas she’d applied for. Instead, he’d assigned her only to these poor, remote places where birds wouldn’t even bother to poop. If she could have worked at her own clinic this week, she would have pocketed at least 5,000 yuan by now. But as it was, forget 5,000 yuan, she hadn’t seen even 50 cents. Every day, she had to worry about feeding the people she’d brought with her, and because of the remote locations, she even had to coordinate accommodation with the local Village Committee. She was baffled. Jinzhou was a provincial capital, after all. How could there still be such distant, impoverished places? Glancing out the window at the sun just peeking over the sill, and then at the crowd of women before her, she truly wondered when this kind of life would end.

”Doctor, I have sharp pain in my lower abdomen every time I urinate,” the woman at the table said, not noticing Gao Qin’s distraction, though she spoke a bit shyly about her problem.

Gao Qin collected herself, gave the woman a cursory glance, and asked casually, ”Any other problems?”

”Well, there’s also some curd-like discharge down there...”

”That’s a typical case of pelvic inflammation. It needs to be treated as soon as possible, and you need to pay attention to hygiene.”

The woman glanced around nervously and whispered, ”I wash every day, and I change my underwear daily, but it hasn’t gotten any better. Some days it was especially severe.”

”Are you not understanding, or are you just pretending to be stupid? When I talk about hygiene, it’s not just about you. Your man also needs to maintain hygiene and wash frequently. Otherwise, even wrapping you in a layer of plastic film wouldn’t do any good.”

Gao Qin was growing impatient. These women’s problems were largely similar, many being various inflammations caused by poor hygiene. They were all women, after all. Why couldn’t they just speak plainly? Instead, they acted so furtively, which was really irritating. ”I’ll write down a few medicines for you. You can buy them yourself and take them.”

Quickly scribbling down a few medicine names, Gao Qin waved her hand impatiently. ”Alright, go to your village clinic to buy the medicine. Next.”

The woman at the table’s expression changed. She wanted to ask something else, but seeing Gao Qin’s gloomy face, she hurriedly took the paper with the medicine names and left.

Gao Qin sighed as she watched the woman’s back. Never mind her own clinic; even at the hospital, the patients she would have seen this week would have easily brought in over 20,000 yuan in check-up fees alone this month. Add to that the commission from prescribing medicine, and it would be at least another 10,000 yuan. But now... SIGH!!! Moreover, without the aid of instruments, examining these patients always felt restrictive; she was relying solely on her experience to get by. But while she was experienced, the doctors she had brought with her weren’t. They would frequently come to her with questions, asking her to make the final decision. Du Heng, you goddamned bastard!

After silently cursing him, Gao Qin reluctantly turned her attention back to the patient now before her.

Just then, a young doctor approached. ”Director, could you please take a look at this patient for me? I’m a bit unsure about the diagnosis.”

Gao Qin sighed. She really felt like wringing these blockheads’ necks. She hadn’t really noticed it back in the hospital, but once these people were out here without the aid of instruments, her subordinates were practically useless. However, it wasn’t really appropriate to get angry in front of the patient, so she could only get up and follow the doctor to the makeshift consultation room the Village Committee had arranged for her.

Gao Qin was on the verge of exploding. Walking over, she had already made up her mind: if it was just a common gynecological problem, she would drill the basic characteristics of these diseases into these incompetents’ heads.

Upon entering, a young woman appeared before her, looking to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight. However, her face lacked the rosy flush of youth, showing instead a trace of sallowness.

”What’s the situation?”

”The patient reports that after intercourse with her husband, she experiences persistent bleeding. Moreover, they’ve been married for five years, and she hasn’t conceived.”

Gao Qin furrowed her brow and turned to the woman at the table. ”Have you been to the hospital for a check-up?”

The woman shook her head lightly.

”Why didn’t you go for a check-up?”

”The bleeding usually doesn’t last long. It stops after a day, so I just...”

”How long has this been happening?”

”It started in the second year of our marriage.”

Gao Qin’s expression turned a bit more serious. Married for five years, and the symptoms started in the second year... that means it’s been going on for three or four years.

Gao Qin sighed. How could this woman not take better care of herself? Four years was enough time for a minor illness to develop into a major one.

”Do you usually have pain in your lower abdomen?”
