This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Qiu Pingzhen wasn’t just making empty talk; he genuinely found a convenient spot for a taxi and had Du Heng drop him off. After expressing his gratitude once more, Du Heng hurried back.

Du Heng had been keeping a close eye on Wu Shengnan during this time, insisting she rest at home. It was during this period of rest that Wu Shengnan’s legs and feet gradually recovered, allowing her to walk normally again.

However, she wasn’t the type to stay idle. Once she could move around, she went out and bought many things as gifts for the formal visit. She had even thoughtfully considered every family member.

When Du Heng arrived, all he needed to do was open the trunk and, acting as a porter, load everything inside.

”Are you nervous?” Wu Shengnan asked Du Heng with a smile as they arrived at her family’s door.

Du Heng took a few deep breaths, then smiled and said, ”I am. I’m afraid your father won’t agree.”

Wu Shengnan giggled. ”My whole family spoils me rotten. You’d better be prepared for a massive hemorrhage. I’m going to ask you for an outrageous betrothal gift.”

Du Heng feigned a look of terror, and then the two of them cheerfully entered Wu Shengnan’s parents’ home.

The decor in Wu Shengnan’s parents’ house was much more pleasing to the eye than in Sir Wu Zhong’s home. Perhaps due to their status, their house wasn’t small but certainly not large, appearing to be around 100 square meters. The furnishings were very simple, a stark contrast to Sir Wu Zhong’s flashy and extravagant style.

Everyone in the family was present today; even Sir Wu Zhong had been brought over by Wu Shengnan’s brother.

”Xiao Heng, Nannan mentioned that you two are planning to get married?”

After some casual conversation about life and work, Sir Wu Zhong was the first to bring up the main topic of the day. As this question was posed, the three generations of Wu family men all looked at Du Heng.

Hearing this, Du Heng did feel a pang of nervousness, but he quickly composed himself and said with a smile, ”I’ve spoken with Nannan, and we do have this intention.”

Wu Shengnan’s brother suddenly asked, ”You two have only been officially together for less than two months. Isn’t this a bit too hasty?”

”It’s true that we haven’t been in a confirmed relationship for very long, but we’ve known each other for quite a while, and our understanding of each other is quite thorough. So, from that perspective, I believe it should be acceptable, right?”

Du Heng glanced towards the kitchen, ensuring Wu Shengnan couldn’t hear, before continuing, ”My reasons for proposing marriage now are mainly these:

First, as I just said, Nannan and I have known each other for a long time. We understand each other very well and are compatible in terms of living habits, personalities, and other aspects.

Second, Nannan is an exceptionally outstanding girl, and I don’t want to lose her.

Third, I have some thoughts regarding Nannan’s job. I feel she isn’t suited for her current work. I’d like to take this opportunity to help her make an adjustment.”

Wu Shengnan’s brother, who already had a gloomy disposition, looked even more somber after hearing Du Heng’s words. ”Are you trying to use a Child to tie Nannan down and make her voluntarily leave her current operation?”

Du Heng stared fearlessly into Wu Shengnan’s brother’s Eyes and said with great certainty, ”That’s exactly what I have in mind.”

Wu Shengnan’s brother suddenly sneered. ”Don’t you think that’s despicable?”

”No, I don’t. On the contrary, I believe I’m doing it for her own good, and for the good of this family.”

”Nonsense. You just look down on the Police. I even suspect that your eagerness to marry my sister stems from an interest in our family background.”

Du Heng laughed contemptuously at Wu Shengnan’s brother. ”Family background? You might treasure it, but I couldn’t care less.

Today, in front of Uncle and Grandpa, I can state clearly that I don’t lack money. I believe you’ve investigated me thoroughly on this point.

As for holding a high official position, I have even less interest in that; there are too many messy and trivial Things involved. Between being an official and a Doctor, I much prefer being a simple Doctor.”

Du Heng’s expression turned serious as he continued, ”As for the accusation of looking down on the Police, please don’t pin that on me—it’s too heavy a burden for me to bear. I’m a Doctor myself, engaged in saving lives and healing the injured. Both my profession and that of the Police serve the people. In some ways, we might even be less effective than you. So why would I look down on the Police?”

”Then why don’t you agree to Nannan continuing her current job? If that isn’t discrimination, what is? Don’t you know how much she loves this job, this profession?”

Du Heng looked seriously at his prospective brother-in-law. ”Just because she likes it, she has to do it? Just because she likes it, she must do it? What kind of logic is that? Nannan is warm and generous, but she’s impulsive and disorganized when it comes to her work. Haven’t you ever considered whether she’s truly suited for this job?”

”Nonsense.”

”Nonsense? She was transferred to a new operation half a year ago. In March, during her first field assignment, she nearly required an amputation, almost losing a leg. A week ago, she was nearly stabbed in the face. Because of her work, her recently recovered legs and feet were almost re-injured.

And now it’s only the end of April. In just two short months, so many Things have happened. Do you still call that nonsense?”

Du Heng was also getting angry, and his tone became more confrontational. ”You’ve also been a criminal police officer. Now, you tell me: is Nannan really suited for this profession?”
