This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Otherwise, with you running out every day, when will we ever have a child?”

Wu Shengnan answered perfunctorily, ”We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”

Du Heng looked up at Wu Shengnan. ”What do you mean, when the time—”

Before he could finish, Wu Shengnan, who had been turning her head to look to the side, suddenly lunged at a man who had just passed by. She pounced so suddenly that the barbecue skewers in her hand flew out.

”I... You...” Du Heng was dumbfounded. We were just talking, why did she suddenly tackle someone?

Just as Du Heng stood there stunned, Wu Shengnan was already grappling with the man.

Du Heng’s lips trembled. After a moment of daze, he, too, lunged forward.

The main reason was, although Wu Shengnan had pounced fiercely, she was still a girl. In just a few moves, she was overpowered and flipped by the man she’d tackled, who was now close to breaking free.

At this point, Du Heng wasn’t thinking about reasoning; he just knew he had to help his girlfriend. The man was struggling fiercely and even landed a THUD with an elbow on Wu Shengnan. Damn it! How dare he hit my girlfriend? With that thought, Du Heng struck without holding back.

Although Du Heng wasn’t a fighter, he had technical skills. Seeing that the man had freed one arm, Du Heng grabbed it, twisted, and pulled. The man howled in pain.

Not only did the man howl, but his struggling body also suddenly went limp. Wu Shengnan seized the opportunity, pinned his other arm, and, half-kneeling, pulled on the first arm to flip him over, then twisted it again.

”My arm! My arm is broken!” the man screamed, his voice filled with agony.

Just then, a meddling ’do-gooder’ stepped out from the crowd, which had recovered from the shock. ”What’s wrong with you two? How can you just attack someone for no reason and even break his arm?”

”Police? I’m calling the police! There’s a man and a woman here beating someone, and they broke his arm!”

”This is outrageous! Let him go immediately!”

Her eyes flashing, Wu Shengnan glared at these meddling busybodies. ”Police business! Everyone, step back!”

The crowd halted at Wu Shengnan’s roar. The man on the ground seemed to give up struggling, merely screaming in pain, no longer resisting.

Seeing Du Heng about to check the corner of her eye, Wu Shengnan hurriedly pushed him. ”My bag’s in the car. It has handcuffs and my mobile phone. Get it for me, quickly!”

Pushed by her, Du Heng suddenly remembered his own bag was also in the car. He quickly ran to the car for his bag, looking back at Wu Shengnan with worry.

Just as Du Heng turned, a sudden gasp erupted from behind him, making him whip his head back towards Wu Shengnan.

The man, who had seemingly given up, suddenly tensed his entire body, flinging off Wu Shengnan, who had relaxed her guard. He then staggered to his feet and tried to flee.

Caught off guard, Wu Shengnan was thrown, but she reacted instantly. Reaching out, she grabbed the man’s trouser leg just as he started to run, yanking him back to the ground. Then, she prepared to pounce on him again.

Just as Wu Shengnan was about to regain control, a ferocious glint flashed in the man’s eyes. He fumbled under his clothes and swiftly pulled out a dagger from below his ribs, thrusting it at the pouncing Wu Shengnan.

Seeing the flash of metal, Du Heng’s heart nearly leaped out of his throat as he saw the dagger lunging towards Wu Shengnan.

Instantly, Du Heng sprinted back, all caution thrown to the wind.

At that moment, the ’do-gooders’ who had been so full of righteous indignation collectively took a step back, their eyes wide. Some gasped, while others yelled, ”Watch out!”

But, ironically, those who had yelled the loudest retreated the fastest.

Du Heng pushed himself to his limit, but seeing the dagger’s path towards Wu Shengnan, his heart went cold. In an instant, his eyes turned bloodshot.

Wu Shengnan scrambled up from the ground. Having just lunged forward to grab the man again, she saw the dagger in his hand aimed straight at her. The cold glint of its tip made her skin break out in goose bumps.

But she had already committed to the lunge and couldn’t change her momentum. Just as the dagger was about to hit her face, she strained every muscle to twist her body, her head and the blade missing each other by a hair’s breadth.

Having narrowly escaped, she had no time to feel relieved. The man, wielding the knife in his one good hand, changed direction and stabbed at her again.

Fortunately, with one arm useless, the man’s balance and strength were compromised. Wu Shengnan seized the chance and grabbed his wrist.

By now, the man was on his feet, holding a positional advantage. Even with one useless arm, as a man, his strength and build far surpassed Wu Shengnan’s.

The tip of the dagger once again pressed closer to Wu Shengnan. All she could do was grip the man’s wrist tightly and try to push it away.

Staring at the blade inches from her face, Wu Shengnan’s expression showed panic for the first time.

”Du!” she screamed involuntarily, fear gripping her.

As her voice faded, the dagger pressed down further.

It’s over. Wu Shengnan’s heart trembled. Just as her strength was failing and she was about to give up, a dark shadow flashed before her eyes and slammed into the man’s face, sending him flying.

Looking again, she saw Du Heng had arrived just in time, kicking the man away.

This gave Wu Shengnan her chance. She rolled over, got to her feet, and stomped hard on the dazed man’s hand. With a cry of pain, the dagger finally clattered from his grasp.

But the man, seemingly driven mad, ignored the pain and grabbed Wu Shengnan’s ankle, trying to pull her down again.

Du Heng, his heart pounding and still panting heavily after withdrawing his foot, saw this and rushed forward again. Before Wu Shengnan could react, he seized the man’s wrist, yanked, twisted, and pulled. The man howled again, finally releasing Wu Shengnan’s ankle.

Adrenaline surged through Wu Shengnan. Her earlier fear was now entirely replaced by excitement and exhilaration. She leaned down, pressed her knee onto the man’s neck, and with a practiced move, twisted one of his arms again.

This time, her movements were far more precise and brutal than before.

”Du, it’s okay now! Go get my bag from the car,” Wu Shengnan said, her voice still charged with excitement.

Du Heng, his hands and feet still trembling, asked in a daze, ”Is it... Is it really okay?”

The terrifying scene moments ago had left Du Heng feeling as if his heart had been squeezed to bursting, his head still fuzzy from the rush of blood.

”It’s fine. Hurry and get my bag.”

Du Heng nodded and ran. He was fast going, and even faster returning, sprinting back with two bags in hand as if he had wings.

It was only when he reached the car that a chilling thought struck him: what if the man had accomplices? Wu Shengnan would be in danger again.

At that thought, he ran there and back at top speed. Only when he saw Wu Shengnan was safe did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

”Your bag.” He tossed Wu Shengnan her bag, then opened his own, searching for something useful.

Wu Shengnan, with one knee still pressed on the man, skillfully took a pair of shiny silver handcuffs from her bag. With two sharp CLICKS, she fastened his hands.

This simple action made the man’s cries of pain rise several notches in volume.

”Tsk, tsk, she really is a police officer! That woman is seriously tough.”

”Yeah, she was right beside me just now, then WHOOSH, she shot out! Scared me half to death. And the way she dodged that knife earlier—definitely trained.”

As the situation stabilized, the armchair experts re-emerged, each trying to show off their cleverness.

”I still think that other guy is more ruthless. CRACK, CRACK, just like that, he broke this guy’s arm. What a badass.”

”If you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t spout nonsense. A human arm doesn’t break that easily. You think he’s some kind of strongman?”

”Look how miserably the guy on the ground is screaming! If his arm wasn’t broken, would he be yelling like that?”

”You don’t get it! That’s called the ’dislocation technique.’ It uses the strength of one’s fingers, combined with a subtle skill, to pop a person’s joints out of place. That policeman is incredible; he’s a true master!”

Du Heng paid no attention to their chatter. He found a band-aid in his bag and applied it to Wu Shengnan’s wound. ”This will have to do for now. When we get home, I’ll put some ointment on it. We can’t let it scar.”

Wu Shengnan, having finished her phone call, stood quietly, letting Du Heng apply the band-aid, the corners of her lips curled up high.
