This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan hesitated for a moment, secretly glancing at Du Heng’s expression before turning to her brother. ”A random restaurant is fine, but the food won’t be as good as homemade.”

”Don’t worry, how could I just pick any place to treat my sister and brother-in-law? I’ll make sure you’re both satisfied.”

Wu Shengnan looked at Du Heng again and timidly asked, ”Husband, should we give it a try? My brother might not be good at other things, but he definitely knows his food.”

Du Heng smiled. He didn’t want to put Wu Shengnan in an awkward position; similarly, all he wanted was a gesture of goodwill. ”Alright, I haven’t eaten at any decent restaurants anyway.”

”Let’s go, let’s go! We’ll lead the way, you two follow us.” With that, the couple hurried to their car.

”Thank you, husband.” Once in the car, Wu Shengnan thanked Du Heng again.

Du Heng gave a relaxed smile. ”Why are you being so polite?” With that, he stepped on the accelerator and followed his brother-in-law’s car.

The place Wu Shengnan’s brother had booked wasn’t some exclusive private club with a hidden entrance. It was a restaurant in the largest mall in the city center. The decor was grand, but there weren’t many people eating there.

”Xiao Du, I just ordered a few things. I don’t know if they’re to your taste. If not, you can order something else.” After they sat down at the table, Wu Shengnan’s brother handed over the menu.

Du Heng glanced at it, his eyebrows raising slightly. ”Clear sake frozen half-head abalone, 11,800 yuan a portion. Isn’t that a bit too expensive?”

”Not expensive at all. When treating my own sister and brother-in-law, how can we not order something good?”

”For me, this is definitely high-end. I’ve never eaten anything like this before. The most expensive dish I’ve ever had was a 198-yuan steamed crab, and even that took me a while to decide on.”

Du Heng teased. A flash of anger crossed Wu Shengnan’s brother’s face, but he suppressed it instantly. ”With your income, Xiao Du, eating here should be easy. It’s just that you’re a simple and modest person.”

Tsk tsk. Listen to that. What a different tone. Just the night before last, he was accusing me of coveting their family’s status. People are really something else...

”Haha, I’m just used to being poor. Please forgive me.”

Wu Shengnan gently nudged Du Heng. Du Heng decided not to say anything more and continued reading the menu, ”Crocodile tail soup, 14,800 yuan; six jin of wild large yellow croaker, 13,800 yuan. That’s enough, more than enough. It’s too expensive; I wouldn’t dare eat it.”

With that, he handed the menu back.

Wu Shengnan’s brother didn’t waste any more words and called the waiter over, asking him to serve the dishes on the menu quickly.

Then he turned to Du Heng and said, ”Xiao Du, the Maotai here is genuine. Do you want to have some?”

”Oh? My dear brother-in-law drinks?”

”No, no, no, how would I dare drink? I haven’t touched a drop since the incident. I just heard about the Maotai from friends. I’m just asking if you’d like some.”

”This is a good attitude. Keep it up. It will be beneficial for your recovery.”

Wu Shengnan’s brother’s face stiffened for a moment.

A good attitude? Beneficial? Is he referring to my attitude about not drinking, or about treating him to this meal? Beneficial... is he threatening me?

He was furious, but right now, he had to kowtow to Du Heng. This very morning, he had consulted all the top Men’s Health Experts he could find in Jinzhou, but the results were very discouraging. He sighed. What could he do about his frustration? Du Heng was skilled, his sister sided with him, and their father remained neutral. He really had no way to deal with Du Heng unless he was willing to fall out with his sister and give up on his treatment. Endure it!

A flash of gloominess crossed his face, then vanished. Pretending not to understand Du Heng’s words, he said with a smile, ”Xiao Du, try this tea. It’s authentic Kenya Black Tea. I heard it helps with alertness and fatigue.”

I just mentioned I was tired, and now he’s offering me something to refresh and relieve fatigue. Is he trying to imply something?

Du Heng feigned a sip. It tasted pretty much like the tea he usually bought for one hundred yuan per liang. Anyway, once tea cost more than fifty yuan, he couldn’t tell the difference between good and bad.

”Not bad. I saw it on the menu just now—400 yuan per pot. Expensive things are usually good.”

”It doesn’t matter if it’s expensive, as long as you enjoy drinking it.”

For Wu Shengnan’s sake, he’d let it slide.

”You have liver damage, which means your liver cannot store blood effectively. This leads to insufficient blood and weakened essence. So, to solve your problem, you must nourish your blood.” Du Heng rested one hand on his leg and gently tapped the tabletop with the other.

Hearing Du Heng suddenly start discussing the condition, Wu Shengnan, her brother, and her sister-in-law all turned serious.

”However, simply supplementing blood won’t fix your problem because your liver is damaged and cannot store blood. No matter how much blood you supplement, it will just flow out. Furthermore, less blood leads to weak qi, and weak qi makes it difficult for the body to retain blood and qi, creating a vicious cycle.

So, to treat your problem, you must nourish both qi and blood simultaneously for it to be effective.”

Wu Shengnan’s older brother nodded vigorously. ”That’s right! Director Hu from the Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital said the same thing this morning.”

”Oh? Then didn’t he tell you how to treat it?”

Wu Shengnan’s older brother’s expression darkened. ”He said my liver and lungs are injured. If I were to tonify both qi and blood simultaneously, he was afraid my body wouldn’t be able to handle it, and it might backfire.”

This Director Hu is an expert!

”What happened then?”

”He said he wasn’t confident and could only try, so I came back.”

”Then how about I write a prescription for you, and you can see if it works?”

Wu Shengnan’s older brother’s eyes lit up. ”Okay! I definitely trust your skills.”

”That’s good.”

With that, he called a waiter over and asked for a pen and paper. In less than five seconds, he wrote out a prescription and handed it to Wu Shengnan’s older brother with a smile.

Wu Shengnan’s older brother had an expectant look on his face, but when he saw the names of the herbs on the paper, he was a bit dumbfounded. He looked at Du Heng in disbelief and asked, ”Just three?”

”Do you think it’s too few?”

”No, I just...”

”Hehe, as I said before, too many medicines, or too strong a tonic, and your body won’t be able to handle it; it will cause problems with its functioning.”

Du Heng might be dismissive in other areas, but he explained the medication in detail. ”To tonify both qi and blood, one usually aims for a dual supplementation, where blood aids qi, and qi consolidates blood, forming a healthy cycle.

However, due to your liver problem, your blood is insufficient and your qi is weak. Blood cannot effectively aid qi, so this method won’t work.

Now, I’m using angelica as the monarch herb, astragalus as the minister herb, and rehmannia to assist by nourishing Yin. The emphasis is heavily on nourishing blood, and lightly on tonifying qi. This way, qi naturally generates blood, rather than blood aiding qi.

Therefore, these three medicinal herbs are sufficient. Too many herbs would cause interference.”

Wu Shengnan’s older brother and sister-in-law exchanged a glance and eagerly asked again, ”How long will it take to see results?”

Du Heng looked at the couple with a smile and said lightly, ”Two months. If your sister-in-law still can’t get pregnant by then, I’ll take full responsibility.”

The moment he finished speaking, Wu Shengnan couldn’t help but kick Du Heng. What kind of thing was that to say?

However, her older brother and sister-in-law were so ecstatic they didn’t notice anything amiss with his statement at all.

At this point, the fine dishes they had ordered began to arrive one after another. Wu Shengnan’s older brother, contrary to his usual demeanor, was exceptionally attentive, serving Du Heng food. ”Come, come, brother-in-law, try this half-head abalone. They do it quite well here; the meat is soft, tender, and delicate, but not greasy.”

Wu Shengnan was also being warmly attended to by her sister-in-law, so much so that she felt a little unaccustomed to it. Before this, her sister-in-law had always maintained a cold demeanor.

The moment Du Heng’s plate was empty, Wu Shengnan’s older brother would immediately serve him another dish. When his teacup was empty, it would be promptly refilled. He himself barely ate a couple of mouthfuls.

His attentiveness, tsk tsk, made Du Heng feel quite uncomfortable.

”Older Brother-in-law, do they have noodles here? I feel like something’s missing without a staple food to fill my stomach.”

”Want a staple food? No problem.” He waved to the waiter. ”Bring four servings of your crab roe fried rice.”

For the four of them, there was a full table: four hot dishes, four cold dishes, and a soup. Wu Shengnan’s big brother had truly shown his sincerity this time.

As they ate and chatted casually, the relationship between them grew much closer.

After the meal, Du Heng savored the memory of the food. It was indeed better than what he had eaten before, but he couldn’t quite pinpoint how it was better. Overall, though, one word came to mind: expensive.

Wu Shengnan wiped her mouth contentedly and looked at her brother, asking, ”Bro, how much was this meal?”

”I didn’t calculate it. It’s all on a friend’s tab.”

”You better be careful. If Dad finds out, he’ll break your legs.”

Wu Shengnan’s older brother glared at his sister unhappily. ”Why didn’t you say that while we were eating? You ate the most, yet you have the nerve to say that.”

”You’re treating my husband to dinner, so why shouldn’t I eat my fill?” After speaking, she linked her arm through Du Heng’s and said happily, ”Husband, let’s go home.”
