Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

”An arena?”

Chen Mo’s expression turned thoughtful.

”That’s right. Exactly what you’re thinking of—a venue specifically designed for Pokémon battles.”

With both hands tucked into his coat pockets, Zhou Yichuan spoke casually.

”Xiao Mo, I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but recently there have been a lot more trainers battling on the streets.”

”Yeah.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Although he had never intentionally promoted Pokémon battles during his livestreams, many viewers had changed their opinions about Pokémon precisely because they watched him command Pokémon in battle.

The bond between trainer and Pokémon—

The adrenaline rush during combat—

Those feelings deeply captivated many people.

Not long after obtaining Pokémon, countless trainers found themselves wanting a thrilling battle against others.

However, due to the previously limited conditions—and because Chen Mo had repeatedly warned viewers that reckless battling could seriously affect a Pokémon’s physical condition—

Even with Potions available, the first generation of rookie trainers in this world had remained relatively restrained.

But once the Pokémon Medical Center was established, providing sufficient medical support—

These rookie trainers could no longer suppress their passion.

They began enthusiastically battling all throughout the streets and alleys of Anping City.

Many livestream viewers had already mentioned this phenomenon.

Of course—

Chen Mo had no objections to it.

Living alongside Pokémon, training with them, battling together, growing stronger together—

That was naturally part of a complete Pokémon world.

And now—

This world was slowly developing in the ideal direction he had once imagined.

Still—

What exactly was this ”arena” thing?

Seeing Chen Mo’s confusion, Zhou Yichuan glanced helplessly at the battlefield, which had been thoroughly wrecked by the battle between Gible and Nidorino, before explaining:

”Xiao Mo, as someone who’s been through countless battles and serves as a Pokémon expert, you should understand very clearly just how destructive Pokémon can be.”

”Anping City currently doesn’t have specialized facilities dedicated to Pokémon battles.”

”So when rookie trainers battle, they usually choose open and flat areas around the city.”

”And that’s caused considerable damage to those locations.”

At this point, Chen Mo understood immediately.

In the original series—especially the anime—

You could often see two Pokémon fighting with apocalyptic intensity, practically shattering the heavens and earth.

Yet once the battle ended and the camera returned to the battlefield—

The ground somehow looked perfectly fine.

There were many reasons for that.

Budget limitations, animation errors, and so on.

But anime wasn’t reality.

The damage caused by Pokémon battles would continue to exist unless someone actively repaired it.

”Anping City is quite large.”

”If trainers are allowed to freely pick locations for battles, dealing with the aftermath becomes very troublesome for us.”

Hu Chengliang also walked over at this point and added softly.

The authorities did not oppose rookie trainers holding Pokémon battles on their own initiative.

However—

Some degree of centralized management was absolutely necessary.

”That was the original purpose behind the creation of the arena.”

Zhou Yichuan explained slowly.

At the same time, the livestream chat exploded into discussion.

[Centralized management sounds great. Honestly, I’ve wanted to complain about this for a while. My neighbor’s two kids both caught Pokémon, and every day after school they loudly battle in the apartment complex’s public area. The ground’s already full of scratches from their Pokémon, so I completely support official regulation!]

[Yeah, damaging public spaces is pretty inconsiderate.]

[This topic pisses me off. There’s a soccer field near my house, and recently the owner’s son secretly snuck in with his friends to hold a Pokémon battle without telling his dad. Now the field’s completely wrecked and we can’t even play soccer there anymore. And apparently the owner’s considering converting it into a Pokémon battle arena? Damn it, I don’t even own a Pokémon—soccer’s my only hobby and now that’s dying too.]

[Actually, Anping City already has several paid battle facilities specifically for Pokémon battles. But there are still people battling in public areas, so official management really is necessary.]

[Um… I’m still a student, and my family isn’t very well off. I also don’t live in Anping City. My friend and I both have Pokémon, and we practice battling together sometimes. So I wanted to ask—if we limit our Pokémon and avoid damaging the environment, can we still train outdoors in the wild?]

[Heh. Public spaces belong to everyone. Student or not, even if you were livestock it wouldn’t matter! Think about the workers responsible for repairing the battlefields. Do you realize how much trouble reckless battles create for them?]

[Hui-ge, ban that guy already. That comment reeks. The student asked politely and clearly explained their situation. Are they not even allowed to ask questions now?]

[Honestly though, even though I don’t own a Pokémon, I’ve observed for a while now and it really feels like children are more likely to successfully bond with Pokémon than adults are.]

The livestream chat became complete chaos.

Just as Chen Mo was about to speak—

Several towering figures suddenly entered through the battlefield gates.

”WOOOH!”

The leading Pokémon stood nearly two meters tall.

Its body was a bright gray color, with a sharp drill-like horn on its forehead.

Its neck was thick and short, covered by armor-like plating.

Walking upright on two legs, it looked almost like a kaiju monster straight out of a tokusatsu series.

”Rhydon?”

Chen Mo blinked in surprise.

He also recognized the other Pokémon nearby—

There was an old acquaintance, Rhydon’s unevolved relative Rhyhorn—

As well as several Geodude with muscular stone arms.

A total of five Pokémon entered the battlefield alongside a middle-aged man wearing a yellow work vest.

”This is…”

Chen Mo immediately recognized them as Pokémon from Mount Zangqing.

Beside him, Zhou Yichuan calmly explained:

”Normally, ordinary battles only require a few maintenance workers to restore the field.”

”But Gible’s Dig caused too much structural damage.”

”So we had to call in Rhydon and the others for assistance.”

All five Pokémon were dual Ground- and Rock-types.

Once the Geodude figured out the tunnel layout Gible had excavated—

Rhydon gave a roar, and all the Pokémon immediately got to work.

Within just a few minutes—

The heavily damaged battlefield had been completely restored.

”Good work, everyone. Extra food tonight!”

The yellow-vested worker looked to be a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties.

Seeing the Rhydon group finish their work, he patted Rhydon affectionately on the back, smiling so widely that the wrinkles on his face deepened.

”WOOOH!”

The moment they heard there would be extra dinner, all five Pokémon instantly became excited and let out loud cries.

”Director Hu, our work here is done. We’ll head back now.”

”Mm, alright. Thanks for your hard work.”

Under the gazes of Chen Mo, Hu Chengliang, and countless livestream viewers—

The middle-aged man soon left the training grounds with the Rhydon group.

Zhou Yichuan slowly continued:

”With Ground- and Rock-type Pokémon, most structural damage can be repaired pretty easily.”

”And if the battlefield has special requirements, we can also bring in Pokémon of other types to help.”

”For us, battlefield repair itself isn’t actually a major issue.”

”The real reason for centralized management is to ensure damaged areas can be restored quickly and efficiently.”

”So over the next period of time, we’ll establish specialized Pokémon battle and training facilities throughout the city.”

”These facilities will be completely free to use, so everyone can feel at ease.”

”Trainers from other cities don’t need to worry either.”

”These battle facilities will soon be expanded nationwide.”

”Of course, considering special circumstances and specific training needs, private battles are still permitted.”

”However, we’ll also publish rules regarding private battles in public areas.”

”We hope everyone will follow them seriously.”

”Violations will carry severe consequences.”

It was obvious—

This statement was directed toward the livestream audience.

Chen Mo silently nodded.

The authorities were handling this perfectly.

Pokémon weren’t pets.

As Pokémon integrated further into human society, naturally all kinds of new rules and laws would emerge—

Such as Gible’s identity registration and residency documentation.

This was an unavoidable step toward a new era.

Otherwise—

If Pokémon, beings possessing immense destructive power, were allowed to roam unrestricted and be exploited by ill-intentioned individuals—

Human society would inevitably descend into chaos again.

At that moment—

Chen Mo suddenly felt something was off.

Money didn’t fall from the sky.

If most facilities were free, and Pokémon battles themselves didn’t actually require extremely sophisticated venues—

Then constructing such a massive professional arena seemed somewhat unnecessary.

And that name—”arena”…

”Looks like you figured something else out again.”

Noticing the shift in Chen Mo’s expression, Zhou Yichuan smiled.

”Most city battlefields are free.”

”But arenas are different.”

”They’re paid facilities.”

”Inside the arena, we won’t just provide battlefields and staff.”

”We’ll also offer specialized training programs tailored for trainers and Pokémon alike.”

”The goal is to help trainers and Pokémon improve together.”

”…Could you explain that in more detail?”

Chen Mo frowned slightly.

Zhou Yichuan had no intention of hiding anything.

As Hu Chengliang had said earlier—

This was something Chen Mo was meant to know eventually anyway.

So regardless of who won the battle, Zhou Yichuan had always intended to explain the arena system fully.

In the current era—

Although more and more people were obtaining Pokémon, most still had no idea how to properly raise or train them.

The only references available were the Pokédex and Chen Mo’s livestreams.

Unfortunately—

The information inside the Pokédex was extremely limited.

And Chen Mo himself was only a half-baked trainer.

Even relying on memories from his previous life, he barely managed to train his own Pokémon properly—

Let alone teach others how to train different species.

But the government was different.

The Pokémon Research and Response Bureau possessed countless Pokémon and gathered top-level experts from all fields.

From very early on, they had already begun systematically training Pokémon using professional methods.

At this point—

Facing all kinds of Pokémon, Zhou Yichuan could confidently say:

”We’ve achieved some results.”

Thus—

A new idea gradually formed in his mind.

Using official resources to help trainers and Pokémon who genuinely wished to improve by providing them with proper training conditions.

As for why it would cost money—

There were two reasons.

First—

Different Pokémon required different training methods.

Providing specialized facilities and support consumed enormous resources, so charging fees was natural.

Second—

Becoming a top-tier trainer required far more than simply loving Pokémon.

A trainer’s perseverance, talent, and financial resources were all equally important tests.

At the very least—

Growth-enhancing resources for Pokémon all cost money.

Harsh as it sounded, that was simply reality.

Whether Zhou Yichuan or the authorities—

What they truly wanted was a group of trainers who genuinely loved Pokémon, possessed ambition, and had the potential to become elite trainers.

Outstanding individuals would receive government sponsorship—

Just like Xiaoyou before.

But for the majority of trainers—

They would need to rely on themselves.

”I think I understand now.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Though Zhou Yichuan had phrased things rather tactfully, Chen Mo fully understood his intentions.

Overall—

Chen Mo supported the idea.

To face future crises—

As well as the current Ultra Beast invasion—

The government taking the lead in cultivating more excellent trainers was undoubtedly the best possible outcome.

At the same time—

The livestream audience had already exploded with excitement because of Zhou Yichuan’s explanation.

[Say no more. Take my money. I’m signing up. I’m going to become the strongest trainer beneath Teacher Mo!]

[Serious question—if we sign up, can we battle Teacher Mo? As a huge fan, I’ve always wanted a Pokémon battle with him. Even if I get absolutely destroyed, I’d die happy.]

[Can people from cities outside Anping participate too?]

[Those of us without Pokémon can only smile… and then cry while smiling.]

[I really want to join, but this kind of specialized training must consume tons of time. Sigh… as a corporate slave, life leaves me powerless. But in the future, professional trainers will definitely become an actual career, right? I envy the children of that era—they’ll have one more path to choose from.]

[I know my own limits. Enjoying battles is enough for me. Becoming an elite trainer? Impossible. So I’m giving up now.]

Looking at the endless stream of comments, Chen Mo said nothing.

Still—

Many viewers made excellent points.

At present, both Chen Mo and the authorities were primarily focused on integrating Pokémon into everyday human life.

But the path of becoming a trainer was entirely different.

It demanded enormous amounts of time, energy, and money.

Naturally—

People had many more concerns.

Overall—

The road toward becoming a professional trainer was still very long.

Right at that moment—

Zhou Yichuan suddenly looked down at the Poké Ball in his hand and smiled.

Just as Chen Mo grew confused—

Zhou Yichuan spoke again.

”Since everyone seems to love Pokémon battles so much…”

”Then how about we hold a truly official Pokémon tournament?”

”A formal battle competition open to all trainers in the current era.”

”And for those who perform exceptionally well…”

”There’ll be special rewards too~”
