At the same time—

Marshadow, who had been quietly watching the drama unfold, let out a soft sigh.

Two pitch-black hands emerged from Chen Mo’s shadow, catching him as he collapsed and gently lowering him onto the grass.

”You were too reckless.”

Marshadow’s voice echoed in Chen Mo’s mind.

”That power isn’t something your current body can withstand.”

”… ”

Pikachu and the others were anxiously calling out to him, but Chen Mo felt completely drained—he didn’t even have the strength to respond.

I was careless…

The moment the Key Stone and Mega Stone resonated, he had felt an overwhelming pressure crashing down on him.

But by then—

It was already too late to stop.

In just a few seconds, his body gave out under the strain, forcing the Mega Evolution to fail.

”Don’t… worry…”

After resting for a while, Chen Mo finally managed to raise a hand, gently pat Pikachu’s head, and force out a weak smile toward the others.

Only then did the Pokémon relax a little.

At least he was still alive.

”Geng…”

Unlike the others, gengar’s face carried not just worry—but guilt.

In its mind, this had happened because of it.

Understanding that, Chen Mo forced himself up and walked over, patting gengar reassuringly.

”It’s not your fault. I just misjudged things.”

In the Pokédex descriptions from his previous life, many Mega Evolutions were said to place heavy burdens on Pokémon.

For example—Mega Houndoom.

Its body overheats so intensely that even it struggles to endure it, sometimes melting parts of itself.

But what Chen Mo hadn’t expected—

Was that Mega Evolution would also place such a burden on the trainer.

”My head hurts…”

This failure made one thing painfully clear:

Humans in this world were far weaker than those in the Pokémon world.

Even Chen Mo—who trained regularly—couldn’t endure it.

Yet in the original world, trainers used Mega Evolution effortlessly.

”…I need to train harder.”

Human physiques were improving globally, but waiting passively wasn’t an option.

If he wanted results—

He had to work for them.

”I’ll ask Brother Yi tomorrow…”

Getting guidance from a professional was far more reliable than random online advice.

”Alright, it’s late. Everyone go rest. I’ll be fine after some sleep.”

After repeated reassurance, the Pokémon finally dispersed.

As Chen Mo turned to leave—

He noticed Absol still standing there.

Touched, he smiled.

But then—

”Absol…”

”…Wait, what?”

Chen Mo froze.

Following Absol’s gaze—

He turned toward the living room.

There, inside an incubator, lay the blue-and-white Pokémon egg.

”You want the egg?”

Absol nodded.

”…I see.”

Chen Mo sighed.

So it wasn’t concern for him after all.

Still—

He went inside and carefully brought the egg out.

Ever since receiving it from Quagsire, Absol had been the one taking care of it.

Though reluctant at first, it had grown attached.

Even after the incubator arrived, it had shown reluctance to let go.

”Then I’ll leave it to you.”

He placed the egg in Absol’s nest.

”Absol.”

Absol nodded seriously, curling around the egg and warming it with its body.

Watching this, Chen Mo sighed quietly.

The prognosis for the egg…

Wasn’t optimistic.

But they’d know for sure after tomorrow’s checkup.

”I hope everything goes well…”

—

The next morning—

Chen Mo overslept.

Even after a full night’s rest, he still felt weak.

Eventually—

He had Pikachu shock him awake.

”Pika!”

”…Yeah, that helps.”

Still, training was out of the question.

”Let’s all take the day off.”

The Pokémon didn’t object.

Especially Absol—

Which just wanted to get the egg checked as soon as possible.

Chen Mo opened his livestream.

Viewers flooded in immediately:

[You’re early?! This has to be fake!]

[Why do you look so pale?!]

[Teacher Mo, are you okay?!]

Chen Mo calmly explained:

”Just some altitude sickness and insomnia. I’ll recover in a few days.”

The audience believed him.

[Even sick, still streaming… respect.]

[You’re definitely an impostor 😂]

Chen Mo shook his head.

”Alright then, I’ll end the stream—”

[NO!!!]

[We’ve been waiting for the Pokémon Medical Center!]

Smiling, he continued:

”Yes, more centers will be built nationwide by the end of the year.”

Excitement exploded in chat.

As he walked through the neighborhood—

He stopped at Ah Hui’s villa.

After thinking, he rang the doorbell.

No answer.

”…Not home?”

That wasn’t unusual.

Ah Hui owned multiple properties.

But then—

Chen Mo noticed something in the chat:

[Teacher Mo’s looking for Hui? He hasn’t shown up in weeks…]

[Yeah, he’s basically missing.]

[Miss the old days… wonder how his Caterpie is doing.]

Chen Mo frowned slightly.

”…Missing?”
