Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Houndoom’s personality was even more stubborn than Chen Mo had imagined.

Although its expression shifted slightly when faced with the proposal, it ultimately shook its head and chose to refuse.

Nature was cruel. For an old Pokémon like Houndoom—too aged to even run, completely incapable of hunting—remaining here would likely mean it wouldn’t survive even a week.

Chen Mo understood this very clearly.

He couldn’t ensure that every aging Pokémon in the world would have a peaceful old age, but he couldn’t just leave this Houndoom in front of him to fend for itself.

Hu Chengliang agreed completely.

When Houndour had been by Houndoom’s side, although their group often went hungry, they could barely get by.

But now—

If they took the Houndour away and left Houndoom here alone, then in a sense, they would be accelerating Houndoom’s death.

No matter how one looked at it, Hu Chengliang was unwilling to do such a thing.

So,

after a brief discussion, the two of them directly resorted to ”threats.”

”If you’re not willing to come with us, then these useless Houndour—we won’t be taking them either.”

”...”

Houndoom stared at Chen Mo and Hu Chengliang with its murky, blood-red eyes for a long time.

Finally,

perhaps for the sake of the Houndour, the stubborn Houndoom gave a slight nod and agreed.

”Woof!”

Although the Houndour didn’t quite understand what Chen Mo and the others had discussed with Houndoom, they understood one thing—Houndoom wouldn’t be separated from them. With that worry gone, they became exceptionally excited.

If Chen Mo were to scan them now with the [Eye of Detection], he would find their affection levels rapidly rising, already reaching around fifty.

”Pika pika!”

As a fellow young Pokémon, Pikachu quickly got along with the Houndour.

Houndoom walked behind them, quietly watching the scene.

On the way back, everyone slowed their pace.

They walked and rested intermittently, and by the time they reached the third camp, it was already evening.

”Alright, that’s it for today’s stream. Tomorrow we’ll be heading back to Anping City, so I probably won’t be able to stream. Thanks everyone for watching during this time.”

Chen Mo said his goodbyes to the camera.

The viewers in the livestream immediately became dissatisfied.

[What do you mean you can’t stream just because you’re heading back to Anping City? You can stream on the way back too! What, you think watching scenery is boring?]

[Exactly! And what’s with ’thanks for watching’? Sounds like you’re not planning to stream when you get back either—are you slacking off again?]

[Isn’t that normal? Every time Teacher Mo goes home, how often does he actually stream? I’m used to it.]

[Damn it! Just stream Pikachu’s daily life or something!]

[To be fair, his streaming hours clearly don’t meet the requirement. Doesn’t the platform care?]

[Platform: Do you think I dare?]

Ignoring the noisy comments, Chen Mo had Yi Ge cut off the stream.

The world instantly became quiet.

At the camp,

after hearing about the Houndour group from Hu Chengliang, everyone felt even more sympathy for them. They bathed Houndoom and the Houndour, dried their fur, and continuously brought out all kinds of delicious food.

Even Houndoom seemed a bit overwhelmed by such enthusiasm.

Still,

now that things had come to this point, Houndoom didn’t hold back anymore and slowly ate the meat fed by the staff.

”If the professor hadn’t stopped him, Xiaochuan would’ve taken a helicopter just to come see these little guys,” Hu Chengliang said with a smile as he walked over to Chen Mo.

As expected,

the one who would ultimately take care of the Houndour group would be the man in the white lab coat.

After receiving part of Chen Mo’s Pokémon list earlier, he had already been very interested in them. Naturally, he cared a lot about this group of Houndour willing to follow humans.

According to his plan,

a specialized training base would be established near Anping City, close to the Bureau, while Houndoom would live in the ecological park.

Chen Mo had no objections.

If Houndoom lived in the ecological park, he could visit it often.

”I just thought of something,” Hu Chengliang said, sitting beside Chen Mo.

In his arms, Nidoran curled up peacefully, resting.

”What is it?”

Chen Mo glanced at him curiously.

Hu Chengliang gently stroked Nidoran while looking at Houndoom, who was surrounded by people.

”When I was studying, I was very interested in animals, so in university I chose zoology—a relatively unpopular major. Later, I was fortunate enough to study under my mentor and travel to many places, getting to know many creatures others don’t.”

”But there’s one thing—although I love animals, I’ve never raised any.”

”Compared to humans, most animals have very short lifespans.”

”So I was thinking… although Pokémon live much longer than ordinary animals, there will still come a time for parting.”

His gaze fell on Nidoran.

Due to experiments with Poké Balls, he had become truly bonded with this Nidoran.

”Pokémon aren’t like ordinary animals. After spending so much time together, when one side passes away, it must be an unbearable sadness for the other.”

”Yeah.”

Chen Mo didn’t want to dwell too much on such a topic.

However,

he had once thought about what would happen after his own death.

Based on certain details from the original work, if he lived long enough, he should at least be able to accompany Pikachu and Magikarp through their entire lives.

As for Pidgeotto and Absol, he wasn’t sure about their lifespans, but they were probably similar to humans.

Among all the Pokémon he currently had,

the only real concern was gengar.

Even before evolving, gengar already had a long lifespan. After evolving—and having absorbed the energy of two legendary Pokémon—gengar would probably not live any shorter than Wartortle, which was said to live ten thousand years.

”Geh…”

After evolving, gengar—now residing in the shadow world—had become increasingly sensitive to Chen Mo’s emotions. It emerged halfway from the shadows, its blood-red eyes filled with worry.

”Geh geh…”

Understanding its concern, Chen Mo gently patted gengar’s head.

”It’s okay. Don’t worry.”

At that moment,

his phone suddenly vibrated.

Chen Mo interrupted gengar, took out his phone, and answered the call.

”Hello, Old Lu? What’s up?”

The caller was the elderly zoo manager Chen Mo had met when he first arrived at Cangqing Mountain.

Recently,

among the Pokémon receiving treatment at the rescue station was a group of Pancham. It had been confirmed that they were from Beibei’s clan—the same Pancham Chen Mo had encountered earlier.

During those days,

residents from the nearby town frequently came to visit, bringing food and supplies.

Once treatment ended, the entire Pancham group left with the townspeople.

Professor Zhou took this matter very seriously.

After discussions, they decided to develop the town into a special tourist destination centered around the Pancham, promoting it as a model of harmonious coexistence between humans and Pokémon.

Old Lu, overjoyed by Beibei’s return, had called Chen Mo many times and even personally brought gifts to thank him.

And now—

he called again.

”Teacher Xiao Mo, I heard you’ll be leaving Cangqing Mountain tomorrow? Well, today, with Beibei’s clan leading us, we found a lot of good stuff like termite mushrooms. Nothing special, but when you come to pick up your car tomorrow, take some home to eat.”

Chen Mo gave a helpless smile.

”Old Lu, you’ve already given me so much these past few days. There’s really no need. My car can’t even fit more.”

”Oh, it’s nothing valuable! How about this—I’ll just put it in your car. I’ll send you a video in a bit so you can take a look.”

”Old Lu—!”

Before Chen Mo could refuse, the call was already hung up.

He sighed and shook his head.

He shouldn’t have left his car in town.

Soon,

the video arrived.

Opening it, Chen Mo saw his off-road vehicle’s trunk filled with local specialties—mostly food, along with some small souvenirs.

”See? It’s not much. You’ve got so many Pokémon—it’ll be gone in a few days. If it’s not enough, just call me and I’ll send more,” Old Lu said energetically.

Then he turned the camera.

An elderly face full of wrinkles but brimming with vitality appeared.

”Wan wan!”

A familiar cry sounded off-screen.

A tall, imposing Pangoro walked past, carrying a bamboo stalk in its mouth, with a smaller Pancham sitting on its shoulder.

Behind it, several children followed, laughing.

Noticing the camera, Pangoro stopped and approached, lowering its large head toward it.

”Da Xiong, don’t block the camera!”

Old Lu pushed its head aside.

”Roar!”

Pangoro shook its head, unconcerned.

At that moment,

the children, amused by the Pancham on its shoulder, grabbed onto Pangoro’s leg and tried to climb up while giggling.

”Roar…”

Afraid of hurting them, Pangoro didn’t dare move, its face full of helplessness.

Seeing this, Old Lu quickly said,

”Teacher Xiao Mo, I’ve got something to handle. I’ll call you later.”

The camera shook, and his scolding voice could still be heard as the video ended.

Chen Mo smiled faintly.

Hu Chengliang, watching beside him, also smiled.

”It’s only been a few days, and their bond with the Pancham has already grown this strong.”

”Yeah.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Memories surfaced in his mind—

The first time he saw Beibei in town.

The moment the Pancham stood united against the replica Suicune in Cangqing Mountain.

”This must be the bond between Old Lu and the Pancham,” Chen Mo said gently, gazing at the star-filled sky.

”Time is the cruelest thing, but compared to that distant future, what matters most is the present.”

”And I believe that even a hundred years from now, when most of the town’s residents and the Pancham have passed away, the deep bond they once shared will be preserved in another form.”

”The bond between humans and Pokémon… can transcend time.”

Half-hidden in the shadows, gengar lowered its head, lost in thought as Chen Mo stroked it.

Meanwhile,

on the outskirts of Anping City,

inside a rental apartment,

a thin man wearing glasses sat alone in a dark room.

The only light came from the computer screen, illuminating his terrified face.

His fingers hammered rapidly on the keyboard.

[Help me! Guys, help me! I can really feel it—there’s something following me. Just now when I went downstairs to buy soda, I could clearly feel that thing—it was in that dark alley next to the store, staring at me!]

After a while, replies trickled in.

[You probably quit your job and got too stressed—hallucinations. If it’s really in the alley, why is no one else affected?]

[Yeah, relax a bit.]

[Come out tomorrow, we’ll grab a meal and chill.]

[No, seriously—this afternoon I met Anzi. His mental state is really bad. It might actually be something… Didn’t Teacher Mo mention Ghost-type Pokémon? That’s very possi
