Indeed—

Just as Marshadow expected, Chen Mo didn’t care much about Zekrom’s fallen scales.

However—

Not caring didn’t mean he had no idea how many he had brought back.

Looking at the clearly reduced number of scales in the drawer, Chen Mo slowly turned his gaze toward Marshadow.

”…What’s with that look!?”

Marshadow immediately snapped in anger.

I kindly came to warn you, and now you’re suspecting me!?

Seeing Marshadow’s anger spike—green flames almost flickering above its head—Chen Mo quickly explained:

”That’s not what I meant. I was just thinking—since you were the one who noticed this, you must know something about it. Could you tell me?”

Hearing that, Marshadow’s expression eased a bit.

But then it paused.

Am I… being a bit childish?

Lord Ho-Oh… why did you make me stay here…

Sighing inwardly, it looked at Chen Mo’s expectant face and finally explained what had been happening.

—

”A purple Pokémon with strange energy?”

Chen Mo frowned.

Based on Marshadow’s description, he already had an answer.

Poipole.

Just as Marshadow suspected, Poipole was also an Ultra Beast—and one of the more approachable kinds, generally not hostile toward humans.

In the original series, Ash even had one.

As for why it was stealing Zekrom’s scales—

Chen Mo had a theory.

Poipole was a Poison-type Pokémon.

Its evolution, Naganadel, was a rare Poison/Dragon-type.

In the games—

Poipole’s evolution condition was quite unusual.

Perhaps because it evolved into a Dragon-type from a non-Dragon base, it needed to learn the Dragon-type move Dragon Pulse to evolve.

Of course—

In the games, this was simplified—you could just visit a Move Reminder NPC and relearn Dragon Pulse.

Because yes—

Dragon Pulse was among Poipole’s forgotten moves.

But in reality—

There were no ”four-move limits.”

So its evolution method would likely differ.

Chen Mo guessed—

Poipole was stealing Zekrom’s scales to comprehend Dragon Pulse, using the aura of a Dragon-type Legendary Pokémon.

—

After thinking for a moment, Chen Mo decided not to dwell on it.

He was more than happy to trade some unused scales for goodwill with a young Ultra Beast.

If Poipole returned—

They could simply talk.

Right now—

The egg was what mattered most.

—

With Marshadow’s reminder, Chen Mo began to believe the egg was indeed suppressing its hatching due to sensing Zekrom’s aura.

After all—

Legendary Pokémon exerted overwhelming pressure on ordinary Pokémon.

He had seen it firsthand—

When Zekrom and Giratina clashed at Mount Zangqing, the resulting energy wave had calmed an entire rampaging ecosystem.

So—

It wasn’t impossible that even residual aura from fallen scales could intimidate the life inside the egg.

”…But that’s not entirely right…”

Chen Mo frowned again.

Quagsire’s cave had contained more than just this one egg.

Other eggs had hatched just fine—even with the scales nearby.

”…No point overthinking it. Let’s just try.”

Marshadow interrupted impatiently.

”…You’re right.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Both times the egg reacted—

It had been far away from the scales.

So testing this theory made sense.

”gengar, I’ll leave it to you!”

”Geng!”

For once, gengar was extremely cooperative.

It stuffed the scales into its body and, under Marshadow’s direction, vanished into the shadow world with them.

”…That should do it.”

Marshadow nodded once it could no longer sense Zekrom’s aura.

Now—

All that remained was to wait.

—

Chen Mo and the Pokémon gathered around the incubator, staring intently at the egg.

Everyone was nervous.

Eggs had their own natural hatching cycles.

Hatching too early—or too late—

Could both be harmful.

That was something Elder Zheng had explained.

If the life inside kept suppressing itself—

Even if it was healthy now, it could eventually deteriorate… or even die.

”Come on…”

Chen Mo used his Aura, trying to communicate.

Absol watched anxiously.

It feared losing its hope again.

”Pika!”

Suddenly, Pikachu cried out.

The egg—

Shook.

”Success!”

Chen Mo clenched his fists, overjoyed.

But—

Moments later—

It stopped.

Silence again.

”Absol!”

Absol grew anxious.

But Chen Mo narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.

He was now certain—

The life inside could sense external conditions.

That movement wasn’t hatching—

It was testing whether Zekrom’s aura was still present.

”…Before even being born, it has such strong perception…”

”…Could it really be a Riolu?”

Chen Mo’s earlier guess resurfaced.

Looking at the motionless egg—

He made a decision.

—

After staying up all night—

At 8 AM, Chen Mo made a call.

”Brother Hu, any results from that request?”

”Heh.”

Hu Chengliang chuckled on the other end.

”Don’t underestimate us.”

Chen Mo’s eyes lit up.

”So you found one?”

”Of course. We’ve reached an agreement—but you know their temperament. Be careful when dealing with them.”

”No problem.”

Chen Mo nodded eagerly.

Hu hesitated, then asked:

”…Why are you so fixated on this Pokémon?”

”It’s simple.”

Chen Mo smiled.

”I need it to help hatch an egg.”

”…Huh?”

Hu was left completely baffled.

—

Moments later—

Chen Mo started a livestream.

The chat exploded instantly:

[???]

[Why is Teacher Mo streaming this early!?]

[Is the egg finally hatching!?]

Chen Mo smiled.

”Good morning. Yes—the egg should hatch today. So I wanted to livestream the process.”

He had never shown egg hatching before.

A new life—

A new beginning.

—

Then—

He looked up at the sky.

A small black dot appeared in the distance.

It grew—

Closer—

Until it became a red bird soaring through the sky.

”It’s here.”

Soon—

A Fletchinder landed on the courtyard wall.

The chat buzzed:

[That’s Fletchinder!]

[Why is it here?]

”You’re right,” Chen Mo said.

”I’ve been waiting for it.”

”Every Pokémon has a unique trait—an Ability.”

”Fletchinder has a special one called Flame Body.”

”In battle, it can burn opponents.”

”But outside battle—”

”It can accelerate egg hatching.”

Chen Mo discreetly checked—

Yes.

Flame Body confirmed.

—

This had been planned for days.

After returning from the medical center, Chen Mo had asked Professor Zhou to help find a Flame Body Pokémon.

And the official team delivered.

—

”So—Fletchinder, could you help hatch this egg?”

In the anime—

Noibat hatched with Fletchinder’s help.

Chen Mo’s plan was simple:

Remove Zekrom’s aura.

Add warmth and comfort.

Force the egg to feel safe enough to hatch.

—

But—

Fletchinder didn’t respond.

Instead—

It stared coldly.

Chen Mo felt uneasy.

The affection level wasn’t low…

So what was wrong?

Then—

Fletchinder shifted its gaze.

To—

Pidgeotto.

”Yaku!”

A sharp cry rang out.

Chen Mo blinked.

Then understood.

Fletchinder was extremely combative—

Even with its own kind.

Against other bird Pokémon—

Even more so.

And now—

It had chosen its target.

The message was clear:

Want my help?

Then prove your strength.

Chen Mo turned to Pidgeotto.

”…Can you help out?”

”Bibi!”

Pidgeotto stepped forward—

Eyes sharp—

Ready to battle.
