There’s a saying: where there’s water, you’ll find Magikarp; where there’s a forest, you’ll find Caterpie.

While Caterpie aren’t nearly as numerous as Magikarp, the phrase shows just how familiar people have become with them.

Under normal circumstances, Chen Mo wouldn’t be surprised by a Caterpie evolving—it’s not like it suddenly turned into Rayquaza.

But—

Ah Hui’s Caterpie had been born weak. Logically, evolving into Metapod should’ve been difficult, and even if it did evolve, it shouldn’t be in particularly good condition.

Yet after using [Detection Eye], Chen Mo found something shocking—

Its condition had reached a level described as ”Beyond Perfect.”

At that point, combined with Ah Hui’s trip to Mount Taibai, Chen Mo already had his answer.

”You found Entei?”

”Yeah.”

Ah Hui couldn’t hide his excitement.

”To be honest, Brother Mo, I was terrified at the time. After hearing my request, Entei suddenly blasted us with flames—even Hao Ran and Munchlax got caught in it.”

”We thought we were dead for sure. But the flames didn’t hurt at all—it actually felt warm and comforting.”

”And right then… Caterpie evolved.”

Chen Mo nodded.

Just as expected.

Everyone had their own encounters.

He was genuinely happy for Ah Hui.

Just as Chen Mo was about to ask more—

Ah Hui pulled out his phone.

”Brother Mo, there’s something I want to ask. Do you know this Pokémon?”

Chen Mo looked.

On the screen—

A bizarre creature.

A glowing spherical head like a colorful firework. A flared white collar beneath it. A thin body covered in bright patterns, with ball-like decorations hanging from it.

If you had to describe it—

A clown.

Chen Mo immediately recognized it.

”Blacephalon.”

Ah Hui nodded.

”Not long after it appeared, it put on a fireworks show for us. During that… it accidentally blew up our phones.”

”That’s why you couldn’t reach me.”

”Accidentally?”

Chen Mo frowned.

Ah Hui sighed.

”At first we thought so. But after getting new phones and checking the Pokédex, we saw your note: ’Dangerous. Do not approach.’”

”Looking back… we think it did it on purpose. So we wouldn’t learn what it was.”

”So sneaky…”

Chen Mo’s expression turned serious.

”Is it still in Mount Taibai?”

”No.”

Ah Hui shook his head.

”Entei drove it away.”

”Tell me everything.”

—

They first encountered Blacephalon five days ago.

At that time, they had already spent nearly a month searching for Entei.

They were exhausted—

Nearly ready to give up.

Then—

Blacephalon appeared.

It instantly drove away a Loudred that had been fighting Munchlax.

Its strength was obvious.

Ah Hui and Hao Ran were on edge—

But then—

It bowed politely.

Then removed its glowing head—

And tossed it into the air.

It exploded like fireworks.

The display stunned them.

Combined with its polite gesture—

They assumed it was friendly.

Still cautious—

They tried to scan it.

But the moment they took a photo—

Their phones turned into colorful balls.

Their real phones—

Appeared beside Blacephalon—

And exploded into fireworks.

They panicked.

Blacephalon seemed apologetic, bowing repeatedly.

Kind-hearted as they were—

They forgave it.

After that—

It followed them.

Even acted as a bodyguard.

Helping them through dangers.

Until—

Two days ago.

They finally found Entei.

From Chen Mo’s teachings, they knew Entei was relatively approachable among Legendary Pokémon.

So Ah Hui boldly stepped forward.

But—

Entei attacked first.

Flames surged like they would burn the entire forest.

Munchlax immediately shielded them.

Then—

Something strange happened.

The flames curved—

Avoiding them completely—

And struck Blacephalon behind them.

They were stunned.

Blacephalon became enraged.

A fierce battle broke out.

”Only then did we realize how strong it really was,” Ah Hui said.

”But Entei was even stronger.”

Entei’s flames overwhelmed Blacephalon.

Eventually—

Severely injured—

Blacephalon detonated space itself—

Tearing open a rift—

And escaped.

—

During the fight—

They noticed something.

Entei’s attacks avoided them—

Even protected them at times.

But Blacephalon—

Didn’t care at all.

It fought wildly.

That contrast—

Revealed the truth.

”…You’re right.”

Chen Mo confirmed.

”If Entei hadn’t shown up, you wouldn’t have survived.”

They clenched their fists.

They had trusted it—

Treated it like a friend.

”Is Blacephalon some kind of evil Legendary Pokémon?” Ah Hui asked.

Chen Mo shook his head.

”Not exactly.”

They were stunned.

It had fought Entei—

So they assumed it was Legendary.

But—

”It’s something else.”

Chen Mo continued:

”It belongs to a category called Ultra Beasts.”

”Ultra… Beasts?”

”Some people group them with Legendaries—but they’re fundamentally different.”

He looked at the photo.

”You know there are other worlds, right?”

They nodded.

”Then think of it this way—”

”Our world is the first.”

”The Pokémon world is the second.”

”Ultra Beasts… come from a third world.”

They froze.

”Even in the Pokémon world, they’re considered interdimensional invaders.”

”They come from a place called Ultra Space, traveling through Ultra Wormholes.”

The unfamiliar terms left them overwhelmed.

But Chen Mo continued:

”To most people, Ultra Beasts are extremely dangerous.”

”Blacephalon may seem playful—but it has a habit.”

”It scares its targets with explosions… and then drains their life force.”

”…!”

He looked at them.

”Did it often perform or prank you?”

”And afterward—did you feel unusually tired?”

Ah Hui nodded grimly.

”Yes… exactly.”

”And now that you mention it—during those two days, we were attacked far more often.”

”We thought it was just bad luck.”

”But now…”

”It was probably using those encounters to drain us…”

Chen Mo smiled reassuringly.

”That’s likely—but don’t worry.”

”When Entei engulfed you in flames, it wasn’t just for show.”

”The life force you lost was probably restored during that process.”

—

The room fell silent.

They had come terrifyingly close to death—

Without even realizing it.
