Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

[What do you mean? Is Teacher Mo saying Houndoom’s fierce behavior is just an act? It doesn’t look like it…]

On camera, Houndoom bared its teeth, crimson eyes locked onto the trembling Houndour behind, sparks flying from its mouth as if it might attack at any moment.

Faced with such a ferocious sight, the livestream chat was filled with confusion.

”Xiao Mo, are you serious?”

Hu Chengliang pulled Chen Mo back, voicing everyone’s doubts.

Chen Mo, however, remained calm.

”When I introduced the Houndour line earlier, I mentioned a special tradition they have—choosing a leader through fair combat.”

”For the ordinary members, they entrust their trust and even their lives completely to the leader they select.”

”And the leader, in return, bears responsibility.”

”From defending against enemies and hunting, to choosing dens and distributing food—everything falls to the leader.”

”Speaking of which, their food distribution is quite unique. It’s not based on contribution. They prioritize nurturing the young—even newborns who contribute nothing are fed first. The rest is then shared equally. The leader doesn’t get extra just because of its position.”

Hu Chengliang fell into thought.

The chat slowly caught on.

[If Houndoom really turned on them, the Houndour wouldn’t have gone to humans for help]

[And earlier, they were only a few meters apart—if Houndoom wanted to attack, they couldn’t all escape]

[So what’s going on?]

[Wait… something’s wrong with Houndoom!]

Just then—

After struggling forward for a while—

Houndoom suddenly stumbled.

Its massive body collapsed onto the ground.

”?!”

Hu Chengliang was startled.

Immediately—

The Houndour rushed forward, barking anxiously, completely forgetting their earlier fear.

”Hu, I’m going ahead.”

Chen Mo quickly ran over with Chansey.

Despite Chansey’s treatment—

Houndoom didn’t regain consciousness immediately.

”What’s happening?”

Hu Chengliang frowned.

Chen Mo gently stroked its coarse fur.

”Do you remember the elderly Haxorus in Axew territory?”

”Of course.”

”You mean…”

Hu realized.

Chen Mo nodded.

”It’s the same.”

”This Houndoom… doesn’t have much time left.”

The chat fell silent.

Chen Mo explained softly:

”You might not notice without comparison, but look closely—”

”Its fur lacks luster and feels rough. Its claws and horns are dulled.”

”These are signs of old age.”

For a Pokémon like Houndoom—

This meant one thing.

Its time was nearly up.

Finally—

After continued treatment—

Houndoom slowly opened its eyes.

Gone was the earlier ferocity.

Its red eyes now held only age-worn cloudiness.

”Woof!”

The Houndour cried out in relief.

But—

Seeing them—

Houndoom immediately put on a fierce expression again, trying to stand.

”Don’t force yourself.”

Chen Mo gently pressed it down.

”They already know. There’s no need to keep pretending.”

There were no external injuries.

But—

Years of accumulated strain had turned into hidden damage.

That was why it collapsed suddenly.

”Hoo…”

Houndoom understood.

It looked at Chen Mo—

Then at the Houndour—

And finally closed its eyes, allowing treatment.

After several minutes—

Its condition stabilized.

Houndoom stood up—

And turned toward the tree hollow.

”Woof!”

The Houndour panicked and tried to follow—

But a single glare stopped them.

”Hoo! Hoo hoo!”

Houndoom barked sharply.

The Houndour lowered their heads, like scolded children.

”Pika…”

Pikachu tugged Chen Mo’s shoulder.

”Pika pika.”

Chen Mo froze—

Then lit up.

”You can understand them now?”

”Pikachu~!”

Pikachu nodded proudly.

It jumped down and began translating with gestures.

Chen Mo nodded along.

”I see… so that’s it…”

Hu Chengliang watched in disbelief.

Meanwhile, the chat was losing patience.

[Teacher Mo, explain!]

[Classic—he forgets we exist]

Finally, Chen Mo spoke:

”At first, I thought the Houndour came to seek help.”

”But that’s not the case.”

”They were forced to come.”

”By Houndoom.”

Hu immediately understood.

”It knows it can’t take care of them anymore… so it wants them to follow humans?”

”Exactly.”

During recent rescues—

Some Pokémon had returned to the wild.

Others stayed.

Houndoom had learned—

Humans could care for Pokémon.

So it made a decision.

”Hoo!”

Houndoom barked again.

Its eyes held a trace of reluctance.

It had protected them through disasters—

But now—

It was old.

Weak.

It could barely run.

It knew—

It wouldn’t survive much longer.

And worse—

It couldn’t protect them anymore.

So it chose—

To send them away.

To humans.

Where they might live better lives.

But—

It also knew—

No trainer would want a dying Pokémon.

So it stayed.

In this hollow tree.

Waiting for the end.

”Hoo!”

(Leave. I command you as your leader.)

The Houndour hesitated—

But obeyed.

Heads lowered.

They turned—

Walking toward Chen Mo.

Confused.

Feeling abandoned.

At that moment—

Chen Mo stepped forward.

”Houndoom, wait.”

He called out.

”You can’t just hand over a group of Houndour who don’t know anything.”

Houndoom stopped.

Turned.

It understood.

”They’re still too young.”

Chen Mo continued.

”They don’t know how to hunt properly, coordinate, defend themselves, or master moves.”

”These aren’t things we humans can teach them directly.”

”But you can.”

”You’re experienced.”

”You still have a lot to teach them.”

Chen Mo met its gaze.

”So—”

”Will you come back with us?”
