Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

After leaving Chen Mo’s house, both Ah Hui and Hao Ran felt a lingering fear.

Their final days on Mount Taibai had been like walking past the gates of death—one step closer, and they might not have come back.

”Ultra Beasts… they’re terrifying.”

Ah Hui held Metapod tightly, worry written all over his face.

”According to Brother Mo, creatures like them are as common as Magikarp in their own world. I can’t even imagine what would happen if a large number of Ultra Beasts with that level of power invaded our world…”

Hao Ran didn’t respond. His gaze drifted toward Munchlax, who was carrying two big bags of snacks.

Sensing the look, Munchlax tilted its head.

”Munch?”

”… ”

Hao Ran already understood from Chen Mo’s explanation—

Munchlax had immense potential.

And in a world full of hidden dangers, if he wanted to live peacefully with his family, the first step was simple:

Become stronger.

”Munchlax… will you grow stronger with me?”

The sudden question made Ah Hui pause as well.

As his close friend, he knew exactly what Hao Ran was thinking.

But—

Ah Hui had learned something important from traveling with Chen Mo:

Everyone has their own responsibility in protecting this world.

As one of the first generation of trainers influenced by Chen Mo, Ah Hui also had something he wanted to achieve.

And now—

He finally had the chance.

In his arms, Metapod trembled slightly, as if responding to his resolve—eager to break its cocoon and become a butterfly.

Meanwhile—

Munchlax stared at Hao Ran’s outstretched hand.

After a long hesitation—

It moved.

With great reluctance, it handed over a full bag of snacks.

”… ”

Hao Ran’s face darkened.

After a long pause, he sighed.

”I’m not trying to take your food…”

Ah Hui crouched down, laughing so hard he couldn’t stand.

—

At the same time—

Back in the villa, Chen Mo sat at his computer, organizing the information Ah Hui and Hao Ran had provided.

The appearance of Ultra Beasts was undoubtedly bad news.

But after everything he had experienced—especially the crystallization incident at Mount Zangqing—not long ago, he had grown somewhat numb.

Still—

Some details stood out.

The timing of Entei’s appearance.

Originally, Chen Mo didn’t recommend searching for Entei because he believed Entei wouldn’t stay in one place for long.

But now—

It seemed Entei had a particular attachment to Mount Taibai.

From Suicune encountering Entei, to Ah Hui and Hao Ran meeting it—at least two months had passed.

There was no way Entei had stayed there the entire time.

After all—

The three Legendary Beasts shared a trait:

They roamed constantly.

Not by choice—

But because their immense power required release.

Chen Mo had confirmed this not only through Pokédex records, but also through Marshadow.

So—

Entei’s appearance felt… too coincidental.

And more importantly—

The moment it appeared, it attacked Blacephalon without hesitation.

After driving it away, healing Ah Hui and Hao Ran—

It left immediately.

No conversation. No lingering.

Just gone.

Almost like it was… rushing to the next scene.

At first, Chen Mo didn’t think much of it.

After all, like Suicune, Entei had a reputation for dramatic entrances and exits.

But now—

Piecing everything together—

He couldn’t help but wonder:

Was Entei specifically hunting Ultra Beasts like Blacephalon?

After thinking it through, Chen Mo decided to consult a professional—

Marshadow.

”Marshadow, you there?”

A cold voice immediately echoed in his mind.

”No.”

”… ”

Chen Mo didn’t care.

A response was enough.

After persistent questioning, Marshadow finally gave in and revealed something.

As Legendary Pokémon with a clear hierarchy, the three beasts maintained a close connection with their leader—

Ho-Oh.

In the Pokémon world, Ho-Oh would sometimes grant its feathers to chosen humans.

Those who received the Rainbow Wing would undergo the trial of the Rainbow Hero.

During this trial—

Ho-Oh rarely intervened directly.

Instead—

The three beasts and Marshadow acted as examiners.

Mentors.

Judges.

And in some sense—

Bodyguards.

You could say Ho-Oh trusted them deeply.

Or—

That it delegated everything and only showed up at the beginning and end.

Still—

The system was far more structured than whatever Chen Mo had gone through to become a ”Hero of Ideals.”

However—

Such trials were rare.

After the Burned Tower incident, Ho-Oh had become extremely selective.

A candidate might not appear for over a decade.

And during those times—

The beasts and Marshadow had complete freedom.

They did whatever they wanted.

Just like Suicune in this world.

And since they didn’t interfere with each other’s actions—

Marshadow had no idea whether Entei was deliberately targeting Blacephalon.

—

Chen Mo rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Then glanced at his shadow.

”Marshadow… is it possible this was Ho-Oh’s instruction?”

From what he knew—

Although Ho-Oh had once been disappointed in humanity, it still cared.

Otherwise—

It wouldn’t continue choosing Rainbow Heroes.

And in this world—

With humanity still weak—

If Ultra Beasts invaded, the consequences would be devastating.

It wouldn’t be strange for Ho-Oh to intervene.

After all—

There were signs it had already played a role in the Mount Zangqing incident.

But—

Marshadow reacted strongly.

”Impossible. Absolutely impossible! If Ho-Oh had ordered Entei, I would have received instructions too.”

”…You’ve been with me this whole time though.”

Chen Mo paused.

Then reconsidered.

These beings didn’t follow normal logic.

Who’s to say they couldn’t communicate remotely?

Shaking his head, Chen Mo uploaded his report on Ultra Beasts to Professor Zhou and went upstairs to rest.

—

Meanwhile—

Inside the shadow world—

Marshadow looked conflicted.

To it—

Ho-Oh was everything.

It firmly believed Ho-Oh would never exclude it from something so important.

But…

After hesitating, Marshadow pulled out a feather.

The moment it appeared—

Soft rainbow light illuminated the entire shadow world, warming the darkness.

As Chen Mo suspected—

Marshadow could communicate with Ho-Oh.

Through the Rainbow Wing.

In the past, it often used it—

Reporting about Chen Mo, this strange human.

But—

Since the Mount Zangqing incident—

Everything changed.

After sensing a familiar power within the Unown—

Marshadow tried contacting Ho-Oh again.

But—

No response.

No matter how many times it called.

If not for the steady energy within the feather—

It would have thought Ho-Oh was gone.

”…Still nothing…”

Marshadow’s expression dimmed.

It even wondered—

Had it angered Ho-Oh by revealing itself to Chen Mo?

But rationally—

It knew Ho-Oh wasn’t like that.

There had to be another reason.

Still—

It felt uneasy.

For the first time since its birth—

It was completely cut off.

Just then—

It sensed something entering the shadow world.

Quickly, it hid the Rainbow Wing—

But too late.

gengar had seen it.

”Geng!”

Overjoyed, gengar rushed over.

Marshadow vanished instantly.

”…That idiot…”

Already frustrated, it felt even worse now.

As gengar grew stronger—

Avoiding it had become harder.

Big mistake helping you evolve…

Watching gengar search everywhere, Marshadow gritted its teeth.

I can’t stay here anymore.

Thinking of Ho-Oh—

And its current situation—

It decided.

It should leave Chen Mo.

But then—

Something inside it trembled.

Marshadow froze.

”…Ho-Oh… you want me to stay?”

The Rainbow Wing flickered once—

Then went still.

But Marshadow understood.

After a long silence—

It sighed deeply.

”…If that’s your will… I’ll endure it.”

—

The ”hide-and-seek” continued until gengar finally gave up.

Only then did Marshadow reappear.

”This is torture…”

All it wanted—

Was peace.

To quietly observe from the shadows.

Was that too much to ask?

Sensing Chen Mo sleeping comfortably—

Marshadow grew even more annoyed.

Control your gengar already!

Just then—

Its expression changed.

A strange energy appeared near the villa.

Marshadow’s face turned serious.

”…It’s here again.”
