Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

[To be honest, I don’t really get it. Isn’t it all just raising Pokémon? What’s the difference between a caretaker—uh, I mean, a breeder—and a trainer?]

A comment floated across the screen.

Chen Mo noticed it.

After a brief silence, he decided to answer.

Back when he had first started streaming and introducing Pokémon, he did mention ”trainers,” but more often used terms like ”caretaker.”

After all—

Modern people were more familiar with raising cats and dogs, so those terms made it easier to relate.

But now—

Times had changed.

As more and more people began capturing Pokémon, Chen Mo felt it was time to properly explain the concept of a ”trainer.”

”There is a difference between a caretaker and a trainer.”

”A trainer, simply put, is someone who captures, trains, and cares for Pokémon—living together with them and growing alongside them.”

”They see Pokémon as partners, as family. They form bonds, sharing each other’s beliefs and futures.”

…

A trainer didn’t necessarily have to focus on battling.

But growing together with Pokémon—

That was something Chen Mo had always wanted to emphasize.

Not just a relationship of owner and pet.

[I don’t fully understand, but I’m impressed!]

[Aren’t Pokémon just cute pets…]

[Clearly you’ve never actually captured one. As someone who’s ventured into the wild multiple times just to barely catch one Pokémon—if you think like that, you won’t succeed.]

[Exactly. Pokémon may seem simple-minded, but they’re actually very perceptive. They can sense your intentions clearly. I went in thinking I just wanted a pet—no Pokémon would come with me no matter what I tried. Only after I changed my mindset and treated them as companions did I finally capture a Spearow. Now it’s my bro—we even sleep together.]

[Damn, you’re brave—Spearow?!]

[Honestly… it doesn’t seem that hard? I raised a Pokémon that hasn’t been introduced yet—Slakoth. I just told it, ”If you come home with me, no one will disturb your rest,” and it followed me…]

[Grow together… I’ve learned something today.]

Chen Mo glanced at the chat but didn’t elaborate further.

”Purrin~”

”Pika~”

On the bed, Girafarig and Pikachu seemed to be chatting happily.

Chen Mo smiled.

”Alright, Pikachu, time to move on.”

”Pika!”

Pikachu waved goodbye to Girafarig before nimbly returning to Chen Mo’s shoulder.

”Sorry for disturbing you. Get some rest.”

Chen Mo gently patted Girafarig’s head.

In response, it nuzzled him affectionately.

[Isn’t this still a wild Pokémon? Why does it feel so different from the ones I usually see?]

[Exactly. The wild Pokémon I meet either run away immediately or glare at us aggressively. But all the ones here seem so gentle.]

[Think about it—if you were seriously injured and near death, and suddenly a group of people in uniform showed up to save and care for you, wouldn’t you feel grateful? Pokémon may be Pokémon, but they understand who helps them.]

Chen Mo stroked Pikachu’s head.

That was indeed the case.

Even if they were wary at first, as treatment progressed, most injured wild Pokémon gradually changed their attitudes and began to grow closer to the humans in the camp.

If nothing unexpected happened—

Chen Mo felt that when they returned to Anping City, the ecological park would likely gain many new Pokémon.

He imagined it—

Forests, fields, flower gardens, skies, ponds…

Pokémon everywhere.

It was a beautiful thought.

Smiling, he shook his head.

Just then—

A sudden commotion in the distance interrupted his thoughts.

He stopped.

Several Chansey, looking anxious, hurried toward the source of the noise.

”What’s going on?”

Frowning, Chen Mo changed direction and followed.

Outside a large camouflage tent, many medical staff had gathered, peering inside.

Chen Mo tapped a younger doctor on the shoulder.

”What happened in there?”

The young man initially looked annoyed, but upon turning and recognizing Chen Mo, his expression lit up.

”Oh! Teacher Mo—you came at the perfect time! Pokémon are about to fight inside!”

As he spoke, he called out,

”Teacher Mo’s here—make way!”

”…”

The name alone was enough.

People quickly stepped aside, forming a path.

”Thanks.”

Chen Mo didn’t hesitate and walked in.

Inside—

Several Chansey stood between two groups of Pokémon, looking anxious.

”Primeape!” ”Hoo-ga!”

On the right side stood a group led by a Primeape—its limbs bound with black rings, pig-like nose, fists raised in fury.

On the left—

Another group of monkey-like Pokémon responded just as aggressively. Their leader had green fur, tall pointed hair, fan-shaped ears, and sharp eyes burning with anger.

If not for a Chansey holding it back, it would’ve already charged forward.

[Feels like a gang fight scene…]

[The right side is Primeape, right? Saw them before fighting fake Suicune.]

[Monkey vs monkey—left side wins on looks.]

[Chansey looks so stressed…]

As if proving its temper, the Primeape suddenly broke free—

And punched the green monkey.

The latter reacted instantly, its long tail striking back with a thorned tip.

They glared at each other—

Unaware they had awakened something far more terrifying.

”Lucky…”

A chilling voice echoed.

Before they could react—

Two Chansey grabbed them.

”LUCKY!!!”

One Chansey lifted Primeape and unleashed a flurry of slaps.

Smack! Smack! Smack!

Primeape tried to resist—

Then grew dazed—

Then collapsed, eyes spinning.

The green monkey fared no better.

Seeing their leaders beaten senseless, both groups instantly calmed down.

[What the hell…]

[Chansey just knocked out Primeape?!]

[Aren’t they doctors?!]

[What kind of move is that?!]

[Didn’t you say they’re bad at fighting?!]

”… ”

Even Chen Mo was stunned.

Watching it in person was very different from just hearing about it.

He recalled—

Professor Zhou had mentioned that this Chansey group might settle in Anping City to work in Pokémon Centers.

Originally, Chen Mo had worried—

What if someone hostile toward Pokémon caused trouble there?

Now…

That concern seemed unnecessary.

Anyone foolish enough to provoke them would be in for a rude awakening.

Meanwhile—

The Chansey, having vented their anger, placed the two Pokémon back on beds and began treating them.

Chen Mo couldn’t help but think:

They beat them up… then healed them.

Incredible.

Soon, both monkeys regained consciousness.

”Lucky~”

Chansey smiled gently.

But both Pokémon now looked wary.

This ”kind-looking” creature was dangerous.

Chen Mo glanced at the chat and explained:

”They were likely brought here not long ago—their injuries hadn’t fully healed. That’s why Chansey could handle them so easily.”

”As for combat ability—yes, Chansey aren’t typically fighters. But this group is… special.”

”People vary, and so do Pokémon. It’s not strange to have exceptions.”

Meanwhile—

The Chansey returned to work, leaving one behind to treat the monkeys.

The green monkey still looked annoyed but refrained from further action.

[What Pokémon is that? So bold to challenge Primeape.]

[Dex says it’s called Pansage? Not much info.]

[Teacher Mo, your turn.]

Chen Mo organized the information from Insight Eye and smiled.

”You’re right—it’s Pansage. It’s known for a somewhat rough temperament.”

”However, as I’ve mentioned before, some Pokémon change drastically after evolution—and this line is one of them.”

”The smaller ones beside it are its pre-evolution.”

”Pansage themselves are very gentle. They rarely start conflicts and sometimes share the leaves on their heads with tired Pokémon.”

”These leaves are special—they promote health, warm the body, and help regulate physical condition.”

…

As he explained, Chen Mo couldn’t help but think of something—

Alongside the Grass-type Pansage, there were also the Water-type Panpour and Fire-type Pansear.

Together, they formed the classic Grass-Water-Fire trio.

And in their base forms, all three were gentle, beginner-friendly Pokémon.

A thought began forming in his mind—

Maybe…

They could become Anping City’s very own ”starter Pokémon.”
