”Found it!”

Already very familiar with the system shop, Chen Mo quickly located what he was looking for.

[gengar Mega Stone: A mysterious Mega Stone that allows gengar to Mega Evolve during battle when held.]

Ever since witnessing gengar evolve into gengar at Mount Zangqing, Chen Mo had been considering something—

Using Mega Evolution to significantly boost his team’s combat power in preparation for future crises.

And now—

The time had come.

Compared to other items in the shop, Mega Stones—and the Key Stone required by the trainer—were relatively expensive.

But for Chen Mo now, buying them didn’t even make him blink.

After months of popularity and steady income, he was no longer the person who had to hesitate before buying a Light Ball for Pichu.

”Oh, and this too.”

Scrolling further, he found Absol’s Mega Stone and added it to the cart.

A flash of white light—

In the garden, Pikachu, who had been playing with gengar, paused and glanced toward the living room.

Chen Mo never hid these purchases from his Pokémon.

As the one who had been with him the longest, Pikachu immediately recognized the familiar light—and went back to chasing gengar.

But soon—

Pikachu noticed something was off.

gengar had stopped.

”Pika pika?”

Sensing something unusual, Pikachu hurried over, concerned.

”Geng…”

gengar shook its head, then pointed toward Chen Mo.

”Geng geng…”

”Pika?”

Pikachu tilted its head.

It understood—

Something over there was calling to gengar.

At the same time—

Absol, resting quietly nearby, lifted its head.

It too sensed the energy of the Mega Stone.

”Geng!”

Unlike the composed Absol, the lively gengar couldn’t wait—it rushed toward Chen Mo.

”Geng?”

Looking at the glowing stones in Chen Mo’s hand, gengar was puzzled—

But it could feel it.

That stone… was calling to it.

”Looks like you’ve already noticed.”

Chen Mo handed over the gengar Mega Stone with a smile.

”This is for you.”

gengar took it, then looked up excitedly.

”Geng?”

”… ”

Chen Mo paused.

Was gengar asking if this was a gift?

Suddenly, Chen Mo realized—

He rarely gave his Pokémon gifts without purpose.

Even things like Pikachu’s Light Ball or Magikarp’s Everstone had practical intent.

After a moment, he shook his head.

”This isn’t a gift.”

gengar’s mood instantly dropped.

It looked deflated.

Then—

A warm hand rested on its head.

”It’s not a gift… but it’s a symbol of our bond.”

gengar froze—

Then its eyes lit up, shining brightly.

”Geng!?”

”I wouldn’t lie to you.”

Chen Mo smiled.

”And although it’s not a ’gift,’ it is yours—only you can use it.”

”Geng!”

gengar nodded vigorously.

Nearby, Marshadow, who had come to watch, looked at Chen Mo with disdain.

That only works on someone like gengar.

Chen Mo didn’t mind.

After all, it was true—

Mega Evolution required not only the Mega Stone and Key Stone, but also a strong bond between trainer and Pokémon.

Both were essential.

That’s why he hadn’t bought Absol’s Mega Stone earlier.

But now—

After everything at Mount Zangqing, their bond had deepened significantly.

Absol’s favorability had nearly reached 90.

It was worth trying.

”Everyone, gather around!”

Chen Mo called all his Pokémon to the pond.

After explaining Mega Evolution, he placed Absol’s Mega Stone in front of it.

”Mega Evolution is for battle. Absol, I know you don’t like fighting much—so whether you want this is your choice.”

All eyes turned to Absol.

Even Magikarp watched silently.

He’s too lenient sometimes…

Magikarp sighed internally.

But—

Instead of refusing, Absol looked at Chen Mo, then at the others.

Finally—

It lowered its head and picked up the Mega Stone.

”I understand.”

Chen Mo smiled.

Absol’s favorability had just crossed 90.

But then—

Absol hesitated… and glanced at Magikarp.

”Don’t eat it!”

Chen Mo rushed forward.

”This isn’t like the Everstone—it’s not edible!”

”Absol!”

Absol dropped it.

Its favorability… dropped slightly.

Chen Mo facepalmed.

”Why am I like this…”

Usually, Mega Stones were worn—like a necklace.

He’d need to make one later.

Shaking his head, he turned to gengar.

”Let’s try it.”

”Geng!”

gengar swallowed the Mega Stone.

Then—

The stone appeared glowing on its forehead.

”Ready!”

Chen Mo took out the Key Stone.

Compared to the large Mega Stone, it was tiny—like a marble.

”Let’s begin.”

Mega Evolution—

His favorite mechanic.

A symbol of bond.

He closed his eyes, focusing through Aura.

The Key Stone responded.

Now!

Light burst from his hand.

”Ma-xia?”

Even Marshadow looked over.

”gengar—Mega Evolve!!!”

Energy surged—

The two stones resonated.

Their bond connected.

All Pokémon watched intently.

Especially Absol and Pidgeotto.

Pidgeotto was excited—

It had once been the strongest, but now lagged behind.

Mega Evolution was its hope.

Soon—

gengar was engulfed in evolution light.

”Pidgeotto!”

Excited.

Even Magikarp admitted—

Evolution was the fastest way to grow stronger.

My trainer is incredible…

But then—

Magikarp noticed something wrong.

Chen Mo’s face was pale.

Sweat poured down.

”Glu!”

It fired a Water Gun at Pikachu.

”Pika?!”

Pikachu turned—

And saw it.

”Pika!!!”

It rushed toward Chen Mo.

At that moment—

The light vanished.

”Geng?”

gengar fell back from the brink.

But it didn’t care.

Because—

Chen Mo had collapsed.

”GENG!!!”
