Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

In fact, as early as half a month ago—when Chen Mo went to the Bureau and handed over the Poké Ball manufacturing blueprints—the Pokédex was already ready for release at any time.

However, because Chen Mo later accepted Professor Zhou’s invitation to join the Pokédex development team and supplement additional data, its launch had been slightly delayed.

Now, after several rounds of testing, the authorities had finally decided—

To officially release the Pokédex, along with the newly developed Poké Balls and Potions, into the market.

Late at night.

In a simply furnished bedroom, Xiao Cai listened to the voice of the flat-headed young man coming from the phone, her brows tightly furrowed.

A few days ago, without saying a word, her brother had left with Ah Hui to travel to Mount Taibai in search of the Legendary Pokémon—Entei.

That incident had infuriated Xiao Cai.

She understood that they did it for Caterpie.

But—

Mount Taibai was dangerous.

There had already been a Pokémon attack incident there in the documentary.

What if something happened?

Xiao Cai worried about this every single day.

But there was nothing she could do.

Still a student, she couldn’t possibly go to Mount Taibai and drag her troublesome brother back home. All she could do was help cover things up—just like during the last camping trip—by keeping it from their parents who were away on a business trip.

Hearing the dissatisfaction in his sister’s tone, the flat-headed young man scratched his head and glanced at Ah Hui.

”Xiao Cai, are you free right now? Can we switch to a video call?”

”I don’t want to see your annoying face.”

Xiao Cai replied coldly on purpose.

But—

Knowing his sister well, he immediately understood what she meant.

After saying, ”I’ve got something important to tell you face-to-face,” he swiftly switched to video mode.

”Annoying idiot…”

Xiao Cai sighed, but still accepted the call.

The screen connected.

The next second—

Under bright lighting, a chubby, adorable face filled the screen.

”Snor…?”

Deep blue pointed ears, bright curious eyes, fluffy cheeks, and two little paws constantly stuffing potato chips into its mouth.

Xiao Cai froze.

”This… is a Pokémon?”

”Yep, a Pokémon.”

The camera shifted back to her brother’s face as he said helplessly:

”On the second day after arriving at Mount Taibai, it started following me.”

”It ate all the food Ah Hui and I bought from the supermarket by itself, forcing us to pause our camping plan and drive back to the city to restock.”

”Mm-hmm…”

Xiao Cai nodded, but clearly wasn’t listening—her eyes were glued to the chubby blue Pokémon behind him, who had already finished one bag of chips and was opening another.

Then—

She suddenly reacted, her voice full of excitement:

”Bro, you caught a Pokémon!?”

The young man froze.

It had been a long time since Xiao Cai called him ”bro.”

Usually, she just called his name—or ”hey.”

And now, because of a Pokémon…

He felt a bit at a loss for words.

After a pause, he glanced at the little blue glutton beside him and shook his head.

”I didn’t catch it.”

”When I first saw it, it was digging through a trash can near a scenic area.”

”It found a half-eaten, probably expired piece of bread left by some tourist—and just stuffed it into its mouth.”

”Expired food isn’t good, even for Pokémon, so I stopped it and gave it some food from my bag.”

”And then… it just started following me.”

”At first, I thought it was still hungry, so I gave it more.”

”But even after I gave it everything I had, it kept following me.”

”And whenever I stopped, it would just look at me pitifully…”

”So I don’t think that counts as catching it…”

Xiao Cai raised an eyebrow and immediately retorted:

”Of course it counts!”

”Didn’t Chen Mo catch Pichu with just ketchup?”

”If it’s willing to follow you, that means you’ve already caught it!”

”And even if you haven’t—you have to bring it home!”

”If it likes eating, just keep feeding it. Over time, it’ll grow attached and won’t leave!”

She completely forgot her earlier complaints and enthusiastically started giving advice.

The young man sighed.

”Alright, alright, I get it…”

But internally, he was conflicted.

Because—

This Pokémon ate way too much.

If he brought it along on a journey to find Entei…

Things would get very difficult.

Meanwhile, Xiao Cai was still immersed in excitement.

Her brother had a Pokémon.

Which meant—

Their home had a Pokémon.

Which basically meant—

She had a Pokémon too.

Just then, a notification popped up on her phone.

[Guys, after three days of nonstop feeding, Xiao Lv finally agreed to come home with me! I’m officially a Pokémon trainer now 😤]

Followed by an image.

Xiao Cai tapped it.

A young man, about seventeen or eighteen, was hugging a happy green Caterpie, grinning foolishly at the camera.

”Caterpie…”

She recognized it instantly.

Scrolling down—

The once-quiet group chat, ”Pokémon Cabin,” exploded with messages.

[What’s so great about Caterpie? My Rattata is better in both looks and strength]

[Don’t forget to register your Pokémon at the Bureau]

[Sigh, took me five days to gain Spearow’s trust. Catching Pokémon is hard]

[My Bellsprout watches dramas with me now—and even learned workout moves!?]

[I’m going back to the reserve tomorrow. That Nidorina is almost mine]

[I’m leaving this group. I can’t take it anymore]

[+1. Still waiting for my Anping City residency approval 😭]

[Caterpie guy, join our Caterpie group—we’ll prove them wrong!]

Xiao Cai stared enviously at all the posts.

Even though most were common Pokémon—

She still envied them deeply.

Hongjing Slope Forest Reserve had already opened.

With official protection and ongoing promotion, eager residents had begun exploring and catching Pokémon.

And over time—

Even Pokémon couldn’t resist human kindness forever.

Caterpie, Rattata, Magikarp…

Many were being caught.

Especially Caterpie—

Recognized by Chen Mo as the best beginner Pokémon, it quickly became one of the most sought-after.

As a result—

Caterpie in the forest entered their happiest era.

They didn’t even need to do anything.

Just lie somewhere visible—

And humans would come feed them leaves.

Xiao Cai watched all this, filled with envy.

She wanted to go too.

But Hongjing Slope wasn’t close, and she still had school.

Worse—

Her brother called every day to warn her not to go.

”Seriously!?”

”You sneak into forests and mountains, but I can’t!?”

Frustrated, she scrolled through the group again—

When suddenly, a new message appeared.

[Guys! Official announcement is out! Pokédex and Poké Balls launch tomorrow at 8 PM!]

[Pokédex is FREE after ID verification!]

[Poké Balls cost 200 yuan each!!]

Xiao Cai sat up straight.

The group exploded.

[WHAT!?]

[Confirmed on the official site—there’s also Potions, also 200 yuan]

[That’s insanely cheap!!]

[Finally, I won’t worry about my Rattata getting hurt]

[Stop flexing your Rattata 😭]

[I thought it’d cost thousands]

[Prices may drop further in the future!]

[This is huge. Absolutely huge.]

[With the Pokédex, catching Pokémon will be much safer]

[This weekend, Hongjing Slope is gonna be packed]

[Reminder: limited stock!]

[There are 100,000 units online]

[Bro… that’s NOTHING for our population]

[They’ll sell out in under a minute]

Across the entire internet, discussions erupted.

Everyone realized—

The Pokédex would completely change how humanity understood Pokémon.

”Tomorrow night… that’s Friday…”

Xiao Cai murmured, scrolling through the announcement.

Her thoughts began to stir.

Her brother’s Pokémon was still his.

If she wanted one of her own—

She had to catch it herself.

She clenched her fists.

”Forget it!”

”This weekend, I’m going to Hongjing Slope!”

”No matter what—”

”I’m going to catch my very own Pokémon!”
