Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

The panda ”Beibei” dashed wildly down the street, occasionally using obstacles along the road to create chaos, making the staff chasing behind it look increasingly desperate.

”Beibei, did the other animals in the zoo bully you again?”

Just as Beibei was about to pass by Chen Mo, the auntie beside him suddenly shouted.

”Wan-wan!?”

Hearing her, Beibei paused slightly and called out toward her.

”Wan-wan!”

Its expression clearly said: what do you mean I got bullied? I was the one teaching them a lesson!

But that moment of distraction proved fatal. Staff from a side alley rushed out and blocked its path, while the pursuers behind caught up.

”Run… go on, why don’t you run now?”

The staff surrounded Beibei, panting heavily, sneering as they closed in.

”Wan-wan…”

Beibei looked left and right, panic flashing across its face.

The onlookers, clearly used to this kind of scene, burst into laughter. The entire street was filled with cheerful energy.

”Wan-wan!”

Even surrounded, Beibei refused to give up. It spotted a gap and tried to squeeze through—

”Trying to escape!?”

A sharp-eyed staff member lunged forward, grabbing it by the scruff of its neck.

”Wan-wan!”

Beibei struggled desperately.

”I think you don’t want dinner tonight, huh!?”

The moment those words dropped, Beibei froze.

”Wan-wan…”

No… not that…

In its panic, it opened its mouth too wide, and the leaf it had been holding slipped out.

”Wan-wan!”

Now truly panicked, Beibei flailed its paws, staring anxiously at the falling leaf.

The staff member noticed.

”Don’t—”

He paused, then sighed.

”Alright, alright, I get it. Can’t live without that leaf, huh? Fine. But no tricks, or dinner’s gone for real!”

After retrieving and cleaning the leaf, he placed it back in Beibei’s mouth.

Beibei instantly behaved, though its expression remained full of grievance. It looked at the staff member as if saying: was that really necessary? Couldn’t we settle this fairly?

Chen Mo didn’t speak immediately, because the aunt beside him began explaining.

”Young man, surprised, right? Beibei is our town’s mascot…”

She talked at length about how Beibei, despite being mischievous, was incredibly lovable.

What truly made the entire town adore it was something that happened two months ago.

A Pokémon resembling a gray-armored rhinoceros had appeared near the town and destroyed farmland.

The town had been in distress.

But then one day, the creature suddenly disappeared.

And someone recalled that Beibei had escaped that same day and had been seen near where the ”rhinoceros” roamed.

After the aunt left, Chen Mo glanced at the chat and finally spoke.

”It’s normal that something feels off. Did anyone notice? A normal panda has white fur on its chest—but Beibei doesn’t. Its fur pattern, claws, eyes, intelligence, even the leaf in its mouth—all different.”

He paused briefly.

”That’s right. Beibei… is a Pokémon.”

He had already confirmed it with the Eye of Detection.

”In the Pokémon world, some species closely resemble animals here. Beibei belongs to a species called Pancham, a Fighting-type Pokémon.”

”With its natural advantage over Rock-types, it’s not impossible that Beibei drove away that rhinoceros Pokémon.”

He sighed softly.

”Why do you think it’s called Pancham? Because they’re extremely mischievous when young. For beginners, they’re not easy to handle.”

He continued.

”Pancham evolves into Pangoro. Despite its rough appearance, it’s actually very noble—protects the weak and values loyalty.”

”They also like holding bamboo in their mouths. That’s why Pancham imitate them with leaves.”

”The leaf is very important. If it falls, they panic. Because in their culture, losing the leaf means punishment.”

Watching the reactions, Chen Mo fell into thought.

Even ordinary people might not notice, but trained panda caretakers? Impossible.

”They’re not unaware… they’re pretending not to notice…”

Given society’s fear of Pokémon, it was safer for Beibei to live as a normal panda.

And clearly, it trusted the town deeply.

”If it wanted to escape, no one here could stop it…”

Chen Mo smiled faintly.

”This is interesting.”

He had no intention of interfering. Beibei and the town were in harmony.

After buying medicine, he checked into a hotel.

”Alright, that’s it for today’s stream.”

The chat immediately protested.

Chen Mo rolled his eyes, just as a knock came at the door.

”Who is it?”

Using his aura perception, he sensed an elderly man outside, with two young people behind him.

Then he remembered.

Moments earlier in the hallway, the two young people had been trying to persuade the old man.

”Old Lu, there’s no need for this…”

”Beibei is living well with us…”

”If it returns to the wild, it’ll face brutal survival…”

”Let it stay. Let someone become its trainer.”

”We all love it…”

Silence followed.

Then the old man sighed.

”I understand… but tell me honestly—”

”Is this truly good for Beibei?”

The two fell silent.

The old man shook his head.

”My decision is final.”
